Before Josie and Arthur were in danger, Maria was attending the annual Zolin Jewelry Awards in Delona.

This was the annual jewelry exhibition in Zolin. Almost all the famous jewelry designers from Zolin had co. There were also so famous foreign designers, fashion editors, internet celebrities, and so on. The participants would admire this year’s iconic jewelry designs, discuss future design trends, and give out awards.

During the night’s cocktail party and award ceremony, Maria won the "Best Jewelry Sales Award in Zolin," which was awarded to the designer whose work sold best.

Her latest designs, the "Fog" and "Connections" series, had sold out again. Socialites, celebrities, internet celebrities, ordinary won, and even schoolgirls, all loved her designs.

Moreover, her works were elegant and reasonably priced. Rich people could buy limited editions, custom-made designs, or one-of-a-kind styles. Those who were less well-off could buy mass-market designs. In short, everyone could afford them, so it was no wonder the jewelry flew off the shelves.

Maria stood on the podium and faced nurous peers, dia reporters, fashion icons, celebrities, and guests below the stage. She was not arrogant nor humble, remaining calm and confident as she gave her speech. She was no longer the country bumpkin who would cover her face with her hands when surrounded by people or questioned by reporters, nor hide in a corner, trembling.

Her speech was simple. It could be sumd up in one sentence: "Every girl wants her own jewelry. My dream is to make beautiful jewelry every girl can afford and not let jewelry beco a luxury that only the rich can buy." Although everyone present was rich, they did not feel offended. Instead, they gave her a warm applause.

After bowing and thanking the audience, Maria walked down the stage.

Many people ca over to congratulate her with glasses of red wine, and she thanked them all very modestly.

After these people left, she secretly heaved a sigh of relief. She walked to the dining table and prepared to take so food to eat.

At this mont, a beautiful lady in her forties walked over and stopped beside Maria. She raised her wine glass to her and said with a smile, "Maria, long ti no see. You’ve really made a na for yourself. Congrats." The voice was a little familiar. Maria did not think too much about it. Out of habit, she turned and raised her glass. "Thanks"

The mont Maria saw the woman’s face, her words were suddenly stuck in her throat. Her eyes widened, and she paled quickly. The wine glass in her hand fell to the carpet, and her body trembled in fear. The woman smiled and said with a laugh, "Look at you. You’re already successful. Why are you still acting like you’re a country bumpkin?"

She placed the wine glass in her hand on the dining table and bent her knees elegantly. She picked up the fallen wine glass and said, "You’re not who you used to be. You must always remain calm. Don’t-" When she raised her head, she was stunned. She looked around. In the blink of an eye, there was no sign of Maria anymore.

Maria was running away. In her panic, she covered her face with one hand and lifted her skirt with the other. Defeated and desperate, she darted through the well-dressed guests.

She didn’t dare to look at anyone, let alone stop. She was afraid she would lose the chance to escape if she paused for a second.

It was Catherine, her biological mother. Maria never dread Catherine would appear before her like a nightmare when she could finally stand on the stage of her dreams with her head held high. She now knew how Josie felt when Paityn captured her. She thought, ’I must escape imdiately and run as far away as possible. I must go sowhere Catherine would never be able to catch .

After escaping to the back door of the hall, Maria took off her high heels and threw them into the bushes. Then, she stopped a security guard and asked him to arrange for a car to send her to the high-speed train station.

The hotel security guard was very responsible. After knowing about Maria’s biological mother’s critical condition and how Maria had to rush ho imdiately, he imdiately called for a taxi and instructed the driver to send her to the station.

It was not until the taxi left the hotel that Maria called her assistant. Maria explained that she had sothing urgent to attend to and had to rush ho overnight. She asked her assistant not to tell anyone about her whereabouts. Fortunately, there was a high-speed train to Rosemont City in an hour and there were tickets for it. Just like that, she stood barefoot for nearly five hours on the train before arriving at Rosemont City.

The security guards of the Carter family had already been waiting for her at Rosemont City high-speed train station for a long ti.

After Maria got into the car, she felt a little more at ease. She said to the security guards, "Thanks for coming for . If you can, please drive faster. I’m in a hurry to go ho."

Maria could only feel safe at ho. She felt that only her family could protect her.

However, she did not expect to be stopped when she was not far from ho. There were many thugs, at least 20 to 30 of them. Their cars even surrounded hers.

Maria folded her arms and shivered in fear. She thought, ’What do they want? Where do they want to take ?’

When Maria was standing barefoot on the train, Daniel finally realized that even after nearly three years of training, he was still no match for a professional thug. He muttered. "There’s no choice then. We can only rely on Boss."

He sighed and stopped struggling. He pretended to call Josie, who was in the car, saying, "I can’t take it anymore. Sorry for making such a fool of myself.

At the sa ti, he took out an egg-sized tranquilizer bomb from his pocket and set it off. Then, he let go.

Bang! The bomb landed on the ground and exploded instantly. It did not make a loud sound.

However, the bomb was very powerful. Before anyone could react, the smoke produced by the bomb had already spread out and enveloped a radius of 70 feet.
