The mont I said that, Lisa’s face changed instantly, and she gripped my hand tightly. "Eliana, Damon’s a jerk. He’s just confused about who’s right for him. Can you give him so more ti?"
"Damon’s not exactly short of won, you know. You don’t need to do this." I gently removed my hand from Lisa’s grip. "If you don’t want to send ho, I’ll just call Jas to pick up."
"Ah, hold on a sec." Seeing my determined attitude, Lisa helplessly shook her head and then arranged for a car to take ho.
I got in the car with Daisy, leaving without any hesitation. Back at my apartnt, I settled. Daisy and started working, reviewing so docunts from FarHorizon Group and Soul Enterprises.
By the ti Damon and Ariel’s engagent rolled around, the results from these docunts, along with the data from Nancy’s safe, all needed to be made public.
It wasn’t long before news of Damon and Ariel’s engagent hit, shocking everyone with their flip- flopping relationship.
But Ariel’s PR turned their inconsistency into a story of lovers overcoming obstacles and recognizing their true feelings.
I didn’t react because this was all part of the plan Damon and I had formulated.
Stella and the others, however, were getting antsy and ca to to vent.
"If Damon ever harasses you again, kick him to the curb!" Luna, who was pregnant with her second child, was even more worked up than , so I quickly tried to calm her down.
"Damon’s such a jerk for ssing around with Ariel. They’re both unreliable!" Sofia, an expectant mother nearing her due date, was also indignant.
I was worried about their health, so I kept trying to soothe them.
After comforting them, I was about to get back to work when my assistant ca in. "Ms. Brooks, Ariel’s here. She wants to see you."
Ariel, who’d been on a roll in the love departnt, hadn’t co to see in a while. Her sudden visit today was probably because of her upcoming engagent to Damon.
"Bring her up. Tell her I’m a bit busy, and she’ll have to wait for a bit."
"Alright."
A few minutes later, I called Lisa. This was probably the first ti I’ve called her in a while.
Lisa got excited, thinking I was shaken by the news of Damon’s engagent.
"Eliana, Damon’s just montarily blinded by Ariel. He’ll co to his senses soon." Lisa spoke urgently, completely unaware that I had her on speaker and that my office door was half open.
"I’m done with Damon, and you should know him better than anyone..." Before I could finish, Ariel barged in.
My assistant looked embarrassed. "Ms. Brooks, Ms. Ariel insisted on coming in. I couldn’t stop her."
I waved my assistant off, signaling her to step out.
Ariel, in a white dress, walked lightly to the couch and sat down, her heels clicking on the floor.
I ignored her and continued talking to Lisa. "Nothing can change Damon’s decisions. I’ve spent ten years trying to make him love , to no avail. I’m really tired."
"Eliana, you’re the only one who’s right for Damon." Lisa said earnestly.
"There’s no right or wrong in love. You either love soone or you don’t. Damon doesn’t love , and I don’t want to waste any more ti." I gave a bitter laugh and replied helplessly.
"So there’s really no hope between you two?" Lisa asked heavily after a few seconds of silence.
I didn’t hesitate. "Yes, there’s no room for in his heart."
Despite what I said, Lisa still couldn’t accept Ariel. She angrily said, "Even so, I still oppose Damon being with Ariel. So what if they’re engaged? They’re not getting married!"
Lisa hung up after that. Ariel must’ve heard the conversation clearly. Her face looked a bit strange.
After the call ended, Ariel put on a smile and took out an invitation from her bag. "Eliana, this is the second ti I’m inviting you to Damon and my engagent party. You just said you don’t want to waste ti anymore, so you’ve given up on Damon, right?"
"Whether I give up on Damon or not has nothing to do with you. And I won’t be attending your engagent party." I responded indifferently.
"You’re really not going?" Ariel seed reluctant to accept my refusal.
"I just want you and Damon will stay away from , Can you do that?" I repeated. Sotis I felt like Ariel’s thoughts were a bit too complex. If I attended, she would definitely not be happy. But if I didn’t, she seed to be expecting to.
Actually, it was just her desire to win and show off.
The reason I called Lisa was to let Ariel hear and be sure that Damon and I were done.
Ariel stared at for a while, then finally relaxed and smiled. She stood up and said, "I see. Actually, Mitch and Cooper have told that you and Damon have completely ended things, but you were still trying to get close to him. Now that you’ve given up, I feel relieved. As for our engagent, it doesn’t matter whether you
co or not."
I breathed a silent sigh of relief. The play we put on with Damon was to make everyone believe, and naturally, it would reach Ariel’s ears.
"See yourself out." I looked away, not wanting to talk to her anymore.
Ariel, acting nonchalant, didn’t take the invitation on the table and then left.
Once she was gone, I let out a sigh of relief, hoping this plan would go more smoothly.
Damon and Ariel’s engagent was set on short notice, happening in less than a week. During this ti, I had nothing else to do but go for my regular treatnts with Snow.
She was right. After receiving the treatnt and taking the dication for so ti, my appetite seed to have improved, my sleep quality was better, and I felt more comfortable than before.
"Ms. Brooks, I heard Damon’s about to pop the question." Snow suddenly asked during my treatnt.
I was lying there with my eyes closed, and then blinked open my peepers at her question. "Really? You’re still keeping tabs on that?"
"Of course, Damon’s kind of a big deal in this town. I catch wind of his news when I skim through the papers." Snow softly answered while tending to my treatnt.
"Really? Yeah, he’s putting a ring on her, but that’s none of my business." I replied coolly.
Snow started chuckling. "Aren’t you ticked off? I hope you don’t mind saying this, but I’ve heard bits and pieces of your saga with Damon. After all these years, can you really let bygones be bygones?"
