Damon walked straight into the living room, completely ignoring . I guessed he was probably thinking about that little boy.
Even though he denied my suspicions, we were both adults; how could he not have a shred of doubt?
"Um, I’m here to pick up Daisy. Can you arrange for soone to drop back ho?" I didn’t want to stick around, but judging from Damon’s deanor, he wasn’t likely to drive ho.
However, Lisa chid in. "Stay for lunch, and we’ll have Damon drop you off later." She grabbed my hand and led into the living room. It was hot outside, but the living room was cool. Damon was sitting on the couch with a glass of water in his hand, seemingly lost in thought.
I sat to one side, quietly observing him.
Feeling my gaze, he looked at with a cold glint in his eyes. "Still doubting ?"
I replied calmly, "No, it seems like you’re the one doubting yourself now."
Lisa, not understanding our conversation, asked, "What’s going on? Doubting what?"
I shook my head. "Nothing, just so work stuff."
Damon didn’t explain, nor did he try to avoid Lisa. He just told , "I will get to the bottom of this Snow thing, and everything will be clear then."
To prove that the little boy wasn’t his, he was willing to investigate the matter about Snow. I found this quite surprising.
I’d always been curious about Snow, so if Damon wanted to look into it, all the better; his investigative skills were far superior to mine.
Lisa didn’t understand our conversation, but this ti she didn’t ask further. Instead, she left us alone and went into the kitchen to prepare lunch.
"Ethan might be getting suspicious." Damon suddenly said, "We need to get those docunts as soon as possible and deal with the issue."
I was surprised. "Why would he suspect us?"
"Ariel has been bringing up the engagent recently, and I haven’t given her an answer yet. What do you think?" Damon asked back.
I frowned. "But we can’t get those docunts that quickly. Nancy is very cautious around ; she hardly ever lets into her company, and the sa goes for Ethan."
"So I’m thinking of agreeing to get engaged to Ariel. Can you handle that?" Damon looked at , waiting for my response.
I was taken aback. "Just to get that docunt?"
Damon gave a faint smile. "What else could it be for? We’ve co this far; we need to resolve this as soon as possible. We need to divide and conquer, understand?"
He laid out his plan for . I felt like it was risky, but it was worth a shot.
I thought about my father and Joshua and agreed to go along with Damon’s plan, so we could resolve all these issues in one day.
We chatted for a while, and before I knew it, Lisa was standing not far away, grinning at us. I was quite startled. Her motherly, pleased expression made feel awkward.
"Did I interrupt you guys? I just wanted to say that lunch is ready. Are you hungry? If you are, let’s eat." Lisa quickly dropped her motherly smile when she noticed my awkward expression.
"Sure, thank you for your hard work." I got up and thanked her politely.
Lisa chuckled and said, "If you like my cooking, you can co here every day for als. I’d be happy to cook for you."
I didn’t respond and just went to sit at the dining table.
Damon, understanding the situation, sat across from instead of next to . This made Lisa very angry. She pointed at the seat next to and said, "Damon, sit there!"
Damon frowned. "Isn’t it the sa if I sit here?"
Lisa walked out with a cold laugh, and in no ti, she had brought Daisy in. "That seat is for Daisy; get your butt over here!"
Damon reluctantly moved to sit next to , but what he said next infuriated Lisa. "I’m planning to get engaged to Ariel."
The room seed to freeze over as silence descended on the table. Even though. I was sowhat of an outsider, I felt my heart tighten at that mont.
After a few minutes, Lisa slamd the table, her face flushed with anger. "Damon, I told you, if you dare continue with Ariel, I won’t acknowledge you as my son anymore. Are you serious? What’s wrong with Irene? Why choose Ariel again?"
"You can’t force feelings." Damon’s casual remarks made Lisa even angrier.
Keeping this from Lisa was a bit unfair, since she genuinely wanted Damon and I to reconcile. But for the sake of making Damon’s decision to get engaged to Ariel appear genuine, we had to keep her in the dark. Lisa would definitely discuss this with her friends, and then everyone would know that Damon wanted to get engaged to Ariel.
"I disagree!" Lisa’s tone left no room for negotiation. "Damon, Irene has loved you for so many years; you are the one who wronged her. It was your fault that she wanted to divorce you in the first place. I won’t agree to you marrying anyone else but Irene. Do what you want!"
Lisa ward my heart a little. Was she standing up for ?
Damon glanced at , his eyes sowhat helpless, but then he reverted back to his indifferent self. "Regardless, I will get engaged to Ariel. You can’t stop ." With that, he got up and went upstairs, as if he didn’t want to argue with Lisa any longer. While watching his retreating figure, Lisa tried to grab his hand in anger but was brushed off.
Lisa stood still. "You gave up Irene for Ariel, and now you’re giving up too?"
"i hope you can respect my decision."Damon’s tone was so cold that it could freeze water. He’d probably win an Oscar if he were an actor.
Damon’s decision made Lisa very emotional, but she was truly helpless. Whether in terms of career or love, Damon was a very independent person. His family couldn’t control him.
After sitting for a while, I got up. "Could you please arrange for a driver to take ho? I have things to handle."
"Irene, relax; I won’t let Damon and Ariel get together; just give a bit more ti." Lisa spoke like she owed sothing.
"Actually, Damon’s got a point; you can’t force feelings. Why don’t you just let him be with Ariel?" I replied with a smile, trying my best to make my face look a tad bit sarcastic.
