The classroom had, by this point, turned into an uncoordinated orchestra, multiple conversations happening at once creating a chaotic environnt, and if not for the voice suppressors, they could have been heard from outside.
Even Rowayne and Ariel had to lean in toward each other to hear one another
"If you get expelled in the 3rd-year exam, you are around 18 years old, so unlike here, where you spend 3 more years building your foundation, you will have to directly enroll in a university outside. So while, on one hand, you are getting additional physical training, you will be severely lacking in magical knowledge."
"Why would I be severely lacking in magical knowledge, though?"
"Did you not look at the forums to get a rough idea of what you are getting into?"
"No..."
"Why though?"
"Because I thought the forum would not have any useful information, since our clearance level only allows us to see chats of 1st to 3rd years."
"Fair point. It is pretty much useless, except when it isn’t."
"And when it isn’t?"
"That depends."
"On what?"
"Depends on what you consider interesting. Like, did you know the whole academic realm is 9.6 million square kiloters (km²)? That’s about 126.7 trillion bananas, give or take, or 1.34 billion standard football fields."
"I can’t visualize either of those, but thanks for the reference, I guess."
"You’re welco. Anyway, soone posted on the forum that the academy does not teach you any magical stuff before 4th year."
It was a lie. No one on the forum had posted anything regarding that, but Rowayne’s alternative included confessing about having mories of dead people, specifically his past kills, so he would rather lie to avoid that.
"Oh, thanks."
"No problem."
"Anything els- ouch-!, who the fuc-"
Rowayne was hit by a eraser while he was speaking
He looked around and deduced it ca from Shen’s direction.
’Almost forgot he existed, given how quiet he was.’
"Hey, what was that for?"
"The teacher is here."
’Bingo. He was the one who did it.’
"That was excessive. You didn’t have to do that. You could have told like a normal person."
"I agree, that was excessive, and I could have told you like a normal person."
"..... I can feel a but coming. Go on."
"But she told to do it this way."
"Who?"
"The teacher."
"No wa—"
"Student Rowayne, would you please stand up?"
Rowayne looked ahead to see a woman in her late thirties, about 165 cm (5’5") tall, with an oval face and round eyes.
Her hair was brown, and her eyes were black.
"Yes, ma’am."
’Great. First period, and I’m already on a teacher’s shit list.’
"Now, Student Rowayne, would you mind telling my na?"
’Now how am I supposed to know her na?’
"You would have known my na if you were paying attention. Now sit down and make sure I don’t hear you talking again in my class."
"Student..."
Her eyes darted around until they landed on one girl.
"i, please get up and answer."
"Um... yes, mis— ma’am, your na is Fraudary Ferns."
She fumbled for the second ti in a day.
"... It’s Audary Burns. Make sure to keep that in mind, all of you."
’Don’t laugh. Don’t laugh. Don’t laugh.’
"Pfttt—"
And that started a chorus of laughter, but... the first person to laugh is always the scapegoat unless the teacher has soone else on the shit list.
"Hhahaaa—"
"You, Student Luka, tell what is so funny?"
"Nothing, ma’am."
"Seeing how loudly you laughed, I am assuming it wasn’t ’nothing.’"
’He did not even laugh that loud. It was just that everybody else was holding their laughter, so it got so quiet you could hear him clearly. Poor guy.’
"..."
She sighed. "Sit back down and make sure not to disrupt the class. You too, Student i."
"Yes—"
"Sit down."
She then took out a marker and started writing on the whiteboard.
"Okay, so let introduce myself again. I am Audary Burns, and I am your language teacher.
You might be wondering, why do you need to learn a language when a translator exists? You could just translate it.
Well—
Firstly, a translator won’t help you keep up with a conversation, especially with soone fluent in the language. They also fail to properly translate languages that have the sa words with multiple anings.
Secondly, it makes you look literate."
"Now, I assu you all know basic English.
I will be teaching you proper English and proper grammar, along with Runic and chant script.
The forr will help you not commit mistakes while reading and writing; the latter two will help you in Runesmithing and magic, both of which you will be learning from 4th year onward."
"Today we will start with a basic test to gauge everyone’s position."
’First day. First test. Now that’s a proper school.’
