Catherine was curled around when I woke up. I shifted around slightly, giving her my body warmth as much as possible. The thick fabrics of our clothes did absolutely nothing to prevent the cold.

The thick fabric was all we had. I did rember wearing a shawl that Irene had given when we were taking a walk in the garden but I suppose they had left it there.

She shivered slightly but I could not do anything more than I was already doing to prevent it. She leaned into my warmth, which was the appreciation for my action. At least, we would avoid the conversation as long as she was asleep.

Anastasia was alive. I always assud that Tristan had her sowhere in the dungeons or maybe far away. It made regret not asking where she was or what he had done with it. But after this grueso takeover he had on her country and with what was going on between us, I did not bother asking for any more details, not when I ca to know that I was dealing with a bloodsucking creature.

The very blood-sucking creature I was hoping to see the face of at any mont now.

How was it that she was away and thriving, planning to establish a claim to another throne?

lenmore.

We were in my country, but the dungeons had been unused for a long ti or at least this floor was. They had purposely brought it down to the dungeons that were beneath the ground because they were the least visited.

I was sure the soldiers did not even check on this level. So if anyone was brought here, they were completely forgotten.

We would be too...

My hand tightened on my sister’s shoulder when the thought crossed my mind. If I was forgotten, it would be different, I would be able to live with it but Catherine? I would never be able to survive the death of my sister.

Tristan would co. He had to. It would take him ti to find , but we would be found by him. He always found and at the mont, he was the only hope.

Dear god, I prayed in my mind. What if he did not find us in ti?

The hope inside dwindled even further when I looked out from the bars. I had expected Lara to co find us but she did not return. My initial plan has been to send Catherine away with Lara. At least, one of us would be safe, and I would much prefer it to be my sister than myself.

It was hard to tell how long we had actually been asleep for. The injury I had been given made its presence known every now and then. It was always aching.

I wonder what they had done to Catherine. Had she been awake the entire ti? It must’ve been awful for her. She had not ntioned any injury so I assud that they had not hit her.

What if they had?

Looking at her face, I considered waking her up, but then decided against it. Catherine sleeping quietly was the only way of keeping her relaxed. Otherwise, my sister would panic.

Where was Tristan? How had he not found until now?

How in the world had Anastasia and her brother Christopher managed all of it?

Abandoning the gentle caressing of my sister’s hair, I touched the mark on my neck. Was it not supposed to help him find ? If not, what was the purpose of it then?

After so more ti that I spent thinking about everything that could possibly happen, Catherine steered slightly before waking up.

"Evie," she whispered, "is it still real?"

I smiled sadly, "yes, it is."

"Why hasn’t anyone co yet?"

Her voice was so little, and so full of sadness that made take a second before answering her. If my fear was not enough, then looking at Catherine’s face scared more.

I wanted to give her the selective truth. The need to protect her and shelter her away from any kind of fear, was threatening to take over everything, but how could I lie to her in a situation where everything was so clear to us? It was clear that no one had co for us yet. Not even Lara. Then who would be able to co for us?

"I think we are hidden away sowhere in the dungeons. Maybe, we are sowhere that is so far away that no one cos here because they know that no one is here."

"So, no one is going to co?" Catherine’s voice got even lower.

I wrapped my arms tightly around her, bringing her closer to . "Please, please don’t be afraid of the situation. We will get out, Catherine. We will find—"

"There is absolutely no way out of here. If no one is going to co check and there is no way we will ever be found. I think we are going to die here, Genevieve."

She trembled in my arms, and soon I heard her cries. Silently rubbing her back and putting her down was the only thing I could do. I did not bother lying anyway, not when she could easily see through them and had already made up her mind about the situation.

It was truly wonderful how I had armies at my disposal, allies, ready to fight for us, yet here I was in a dungeon, without anyone’s knowledge, fighting to find a way out and survive.

My little sister was in my arms, crying out of fear and horror at the situation that she was in. She was not only in this one, but it was just a repeat of what has happened with her before.

Lara was the support Catherine had then and now it was .

Placing my cheek over the top of her head, I continued comforting her silently. I did not want her to cry, but what other option did I have? At least in this way, Catherine would let go of everything and would stop crying once she felt slightly better all the while hoping that we would find a solution before Anastasia found us.
