Why wasn’t anyone saying anything?

"get the cleaning supplies, child." Sir Walter, without looking at his son that stood next to him said instead of answering us. "We must clean it before it starts to sll."

"what starts to sll, Reginald?" Mrs Walter did not back down from her questions.

This ti, Sir Walter stepped around and looked at us without moving away from the door. "I do not know who did this, my love, but soone has left a dead carcass on the porch."

"A what?" The shock that all four of us sitting on the dining table felt was mutual. It was hard to believe.

"A dead body of a deer." He repeated but this ti made it a bit more clear. "I apologise for our absence, but Cian and I will have to clear this ss up and bury the deer sowhere else."

Sawyer stood up imdiately. "I shall co with you too father, you might need soone to help you—"

"I would much rather prefer you to stay with the ladies, Sawyer." Sir Walter shook his head. "One of us has to stay behind and I would rather be with you."

By that ti, Cian Arrived and with the final a nod to Mrs. Walter, Sir Walter walked out of the house with the door closed behind him.

"Who would do such a thing? Who would choose to kill an innocent animal and place it outside our house?" Mrs Walter looked at in question as I was sitting next to her.. "Who?"

I might had a slight inkling who but I choose to think that I was wrong. "I don’t know."

****

I was already in my bed by the ti Sir Walter and Cian ca back.

All three of us had decided to stay in turns and I had stayed for an hour before walking away to the room. Now it was Dorothy’s and her hour was just shy of 10 minutes to be completed but they had arrived just on ti.

Now, I, on the other hand, was laying in bed watching the moonlight reflecting on the pitcher.

I was doing basically nothing but staring at what was in front of . We had not switched on the lantern and even when Dorothy was sitting with . The moonlight, from the small window was enough to enlighten the whole room.

A frown ca on my forehead when I saw the light dim for a second. My eyes moved towards the window and I noticed that nothing was out of the ordinary.

Sighing, I went back to stare at the water pitcher when it happened again, making my eyes dart towards the window.

What the hell?

Muttering a a quick prayer for what I had said previously, I decided to check it out myself.

What was that that was coming in front of the window again and again?

The mont I turned to the window my eyes bulged out.

"Ahh!" The scream left my mouth before I could even control it. The eyes, when they t I felt frozen.

It felt like sothing was keeping there. An invisible force, keeping still and frozen, restricting my movents and making stand in front of him.

I could not even close my mouth, I could do nothing. I just did not know what to do. The first thing that ca to mind was to run.

Turning around, I ran towards the door of the room only for it to be open. I stepped back, he was inside!

Here cos through my heart and veins, gripping all over and paralysing to not know where to go now.

"Genevieve?" Dorothy ca inside, frowning with concern visible on her face, "what happened? I heard your scream!"

"I..I." Unable to follow my words and calm my beating heart, I turned around to point at the window. My hands were shaking and no matter what I did I could not take control of my limbs. " there! There, the window, he was there!"

"What?" Dorothy Mumbled and moved towards the window only to be stopped by .

"Don’t go!" I exclaid loudly as I held on to her hand. " He was standing there. Don’t go!"

Dorothy tsked. "Who do you keep ntioning as he? Who are you talking about?"

I had to say it, didn’t I ?

I had to say it so that she would understand who I was talking about.

"Tristan."

Her expressions changed quickly. "What?"

I nodded, gulping. "Yes, it was Tristan there. I know what I saw."

His paler than usual face that shined under the moonlight. Those angry red eyes that I felt glaring at . I knew it was him. I could feel his presence.

Her eyes widened. "The k-king?" She whispered before her eyes went to the window and she looked with utter focus. "But I don’t see anyone, Genevieve."

What? "Don’t see anyone?" I muttered under my breath before marching to the window.

Looking around and leaning out of it, I scoffed when I saw no one. "How?"

I couldn’t believe it. I refused to believe it. Turning around to Dorothy, I moved towards her and held her by the shoulders. "He was there! I was him! It was him!"

"Prin–Gineveve.." she licked her lips, fumbling for words, "I.. I don’t think he was there."

"No!" I hissed. "He was. I know that. I saw him, Dorothy. I cannot mistake that! How can I ever mistake that?!"

She gulped, probably looking for the right words to be said. "I truly don’t know but you have checked for yourself, haven’t you? You didn’t see him there. What does that say?"

I saw him there. I know I did.

"Say it," she stressed, "say it. What does it an?"

But she could be right too. I could be a fragnt of my imagination.

I looked into her eyes and replied, "that he was not there." I repeated the sa in my mind once again before nodding. He was not there.
