"I do not have a gift for Marilyn," I admitted. "I do not know how it just slipped my mind but.."
"But now you do not have a gift for your best friend." He completed for , "Is that it?"
I nodded.
I was not going to tell him about my plan for the Bitten. God knows what she was already going to and if only they all ca to know about it I had no idea what was about to co for her.
He sighed softly before his hand raised and touched my cheek. He pinched it softly. It was so gentle that I did not even feel it yet just caressed over my skin.
"You do not have to worry about that." Tristan’s heavy voice sounded so gentle that I felt weak in my knees. "Tomorrow morning I will send for a jeweler and you can choose what you want to give to Marilyn. Is that alright with you? If you want I can also arrange for sothing else."
"No, no," I shook my head imdiately. "That would be more than enough for Tristan."
"Alright," he nodded and patted my cheek for the last ti. "Please go to sleep now. You need it."
Sothing ward up inside my chest and it made feel glowed from the inside. My chest swelled with the feeling and it has been a long ti since I had felt sothing so similar...
I recognized the feeling very well. It was sothing I felt for Catherine; my dear sister and the only one that was not interested in politics or any kind of mind gas that were played in the court and the palace.
That was what I felt for Tristan at the mont.
I gulped, nodding at his words. "Thank you."
He nodded before getting closer to but imdiately stepped back. It was as if he was going to do sothing but stepped back, thinking and deciding against it.
Tristan nodded once again and for the last ti before wishing good night and walking out of the door.
The mont the door closed my lips parted and I released a sigh of relief.
The warm feeling did not leave my chest but the tension in my body did.
I kept on staring at the door and touched my chest where the feeling was the most prominent. Why did I feel about this even though I knew what Tristan was capable of?
The mark always made its presence known whenever Tristan was around and that was enough to give the hint about how dangerous he could be.
The door opened making jump and Dorothy entered with another girl behind her which I recognized imdiately.
It was the bitten girl and she was the right one because I had just seen her this morning.
"Your grace," a panting Dorothy both gracefully in front of as she criticized making the other girl follow into her steps quickly but clumsily.
It was clear to by looking at her that she was not used to being curtsy in front of people and must be one of those that worked in the back.
"This," Dorothy panted heavily as she pointed towards the girl beside her, "this Rula."
"Rula," I repeated and my eyes went to the girl whose eyes lowered to my feet and shivered.
I had been a princess all my life and a figure of authority, which ant that sotis I could be authoritative without knowing it and exactly what this girl was facing.
"Rula," I addressed her again and this ti a little gently, "Follow ."
Without waiting for an answer I turned around and walked into one of the rooms in the chambers that were not occupied by .
This girl was scared. Given that she had been bitten by one of those vampires and now she was eting with , a figurehead related to the family, it must’ve scared her enough to make her shiver inside her skin.
If I wanted to get sothing out of her, then I had to do it gently.
Once inside, I turned to the young girl who imdiately snapped her eyes to the floor.
"Rula, I want to know more about the mark on your neck." At my words, she shivered but I did not stop. "Who gave it to you and with what intent?"
She gulped before shaking her head so softly that almost made miss it and she took a step back. "I-I.."
The way her eyes darted across the room and how she refused to look at with the constant stuttering of her words, made it obvious that she was fearful of and fearful of the answer as she was first to give.
"I need to know because it is important," I stepped closer to her. "I do not see this knowledge because I want to tell on you to the king but because it is important for to know for the sake of others.’
For the sake of the poison that was kept in one of my chests.
"This is one chance that you received Rula," I warned her before she made any plans to lie or omit the truth. "Please, consider this the only chance you shall receive of help and the opportunity to bring a change."
Rula’s cheek twitched.
Dorothy glanced at before she placed her hand on her shoulder as a comforting gesture. "The Princess knows what she is going and I promise you that your na will not be taken in any of it."
"I promise you that, Rula," I confird the words of my lady in waiting. "But that will happen when you tell the truth and only the truth."
She sniffed before her eyes made it to my face. Rula stared at with tears brimming in those eyes before she closed and broke down kneeling on the floor in front of .
I gasped when she fell on the floor on her knees in front of and imdiately it bent down with her.
"Rula," I caressed her hair before taking in her shaking and crying form and deciding against my intentions, I said, "if you are not comfortable enough, you can leave." It would not work in my favor, but the girl could clearly not do it.
"No," she hissed angrily and wiped her tears. Jutting out her chin, she looked at with angry eyes before announcing, "I will tell you everything you want for , my lady. So, ask away."
