Chapter 604: 290 Selling Cuteness (Second Update) Chapter 604: 290 Selling Cuteness (Second Update) Gu Jiao waited a long ti at the entrance of the Guozijian without seeing Xiao Jingkong, and upon questioning the guard, she found out that classes had not yet been dismissed, so she decided to continue waiting.

However, after only waiting for a brief period, Xiao Sanzi arrived in a rush: “Miss Gu! There is a patient who urgently needs treatnt. All the doctors from the dical Hall are out, only Dr. Lu is in the hall, but he can’t leave either, there are patients in the dical Hall!”

“Understood, I will attend to the patient.” Gu Jiao got in Xiao Sanzi’s carriage, first returned to Bishui Alley for her first-aid kit, and then went to the dical Hall to et the young man who had co to request a doctor.

The young man was dressed in a plain cloth, not looking wealthy. He hitched a ride on soone else’s carriage to co here, and he ended up sharing the ride ho with Xiao Sanzi on the front seat of the carriage.

The weather in May was no longer chilly; it even got sowhat hot in the afternoon.

The young man delightedly enjoyed the breeze while sitting outside.

From the young man, Gu Jiao learned that the place they were going to was called Ciyu Village, equivalent to the orphanage from Gu Jiao’s previous life. There were Ciyu Villages in many places, mostly established by the official governnt, but there were also so established by local gentry and rich households as a show of goodwill and a desire to do benevolent deeds for the people.

Since there existed such orphanages, Gu Jiao casually inquired if there were nursing hos as well.

The young man said, “Miss, are you talking about nursing hos? We don’t have such a facility on our street, only on Xiliu Street. It mainly houses old, weak, disabled soldiers and craftsn who have no descendants. Not many common people go there.”

“Why not?” Gu Jiao asked.

The young man smiled bitterly: “They can’t accommodate everyone.”

Gu Jiao remained silent.

No matter where you are, you can’t just go to social welfare institutions just because you want to, but at least their intentions are good, and they indeed solve so people’s livelihood needs.

Ciyu Village was located in a remote area. After much andering, the carriage finally arrived at the entrance of Ciyu Village after about two hours.

The paint was flaking off the plaque at the entrance, the gate was cracked, and both mold and moss were prevalent on the walls.

Dilapidated.

That was Gu Jiao’s first impression.

Entering the gate led to a big courtyard, similar to the layout of their mansion, with a small vegetable garden on the left and a small fish pond on the right. There are several rooms connected to the courtyard, apparently for adults to live in.

After passing through the passageway, the second courtyard housed the children.

The yard was filled with children’s clothing hanging out to dry, the material seed quite good, very new and clean, with no patches.

At dinner ti, the children of Ciyu Village were eating in the dining hall on the east side.

Gu Jiao inhaled the fragrance of both vegetables and at, the food seed quite good.

It looked like Ciyu Village spent the money where it was needed.

“Where is the patient?” Gu Jiao asked.

The young man said, “In the back, please follow .”

The patient was in a room located in the third courtyard. The orientation of the room was not good—it was cold in the winter, hot in the sumr, and it leaked when it rained.

As soon as Gu Jiao crossed the threshold, she could feel a stuffy heat. It was easy to imagine how uncomfortable it would have been to live in this room.

The young man stood at the doorway, scratching his head, and said, “This little friend and I will not go in. We’d like to request Miss Gu to treat Miss Gu carefully.”

Xiao Sanzi thought the fellow had spoken indiscreetly. Shouldn’t he have said “We would like to request Miss Gu to treat the young lady carefully”?

As soon as Gu Jiao entered the room, she understood why the young man had phrased it that way. The patient lying on the hard cold bed turned out to be Gu Jinyu.

Gu Jiao hadn’t seen Gu Jinyu for so days, and she never expected to find her here.

Gu Jinyu was dressed in commoner’s crude linen clothing, with no jewels or hairpins in her hair, replaced instead with two simple hairbands.

Her cheeks were thinner, her complexion no longer as creamy white as when she was living a luxurious life in the Marquis Residence. It was clear that she had been sunburned quite a bit.

She seed to have grown taller as well.

A flash of surprise passed through Gu Jinyu’s eyes, as if she too didn’t expect Gu Jiao to be the one coming.

She looked at Gu Jiao with a complicated expression, opened her mouth, and finally whispered, “It’s you.”

She hasn’t called Gu Jiao big sister this ti.

Gu Jiao didn’t co for that big sister title anyway, she ca to treat a patient for which she had received paynt. That’s all.

She walked forward and sat down on a stool next to the bed: “What’s bothering you?”

Gu Jinyu lowered her eyes and spoke in a low voice, “I am having my period, and my stomach hurts. Just now, I fainted from the pain.”

“Give your hand,” Gu Jiao said.

Gu Jinyu slowly extended her right hand.

Gu Jiao had not had much contact with Gu Jinyu, but she had seen these hands before. They were hands that had never done hard work, as delicate as porcelain, as bright as jade, but now they were rougher.

Although they did not have all the various scars that Gu Jiao’s hands bore, they had lost their original luster.
