Chapter 854: Chapter 831: Never Leaving the Door

In the following days, Lancelot stayed inside the cave, ditating and refining his Qi day and night like a cloistered young woman. Although he didn’t step outside, he was well-inford about the outside world because Soveris would occasionally send ssengers to update him with the latest intelligence. Additionally, young Isa would sotis leave to participate in important activities of the Cranvo cult, such as presiding over funerals or blessing followers, and she would share her insights with Lancelot upon her return.

The Battle of Witches’ Forest, the Chadegory Declaration, and the Battle of Raventown unfolded like three boulders thrown into a pond, their ripples still unsettled. After Lancelot’s highly publicized charge, no major events occurred in the Kingdom for a while, but beneath the seemingly calm surface, dark currents were surging.

The Lich publicly claid to have crushed the rebellion in Raventown; the now-ruined stronghold served as proof, while the raven folk scoffed at this claim. They road and flitted about in countryside taverns, telling an entirely different tale—one of united guards, heroic Knights, and a fleeing Lich. Despite the villains ultimately winning, the story retained a glimr of hope.

On one side, there’s the Lich King’s proclamation posted on the walls; on the other, there’s the chatty, drinking living person which is clearly more persuasive. Within these short two weeks, Cranvo’s na spread like the wind to every corner of the Derrick Kingdom. Everyone, from beggars to nobles, farrs to craftsn, ruffians to gang mbers, heard of Cranvo’s na and had so understanding of the Grim Reaper’s doctrine—fair treatnt, just judgnt, undisturbed tranquility. Though most people didn’t want to die imdiately, after hearing Cranvo’s teachings, they invariably developed a fondness for it.

Because deep down, every living person knows that death will eventually co, and when that day arrives, who wouldn’t want to be treated fairly?

Though these people couldn’t be called Cranvo followers, it was still sufficient. The original goal was to stop Peyton Derrick’s attempt to beco a True God, and the key was making people doubt the Lich’s divinity—so long as most people didn’t believe the Lich was a True God, he would never have the chance to beco one. It sounds like a chicken-or-egg paradox, but that’s how the Multiverse operates.

However, so people did beco Cranvo’s followers, and so were even quite fervent in their belief. Soveris’ kin couldn’t handle these zealots, and Isa had to attend to them personally.

On this day, the Holy Maiden of the Lord of the Dead received another request from the followers, accompanied by a special figure among her entourage: Lancelot. After months of secluded ditation, he finally decided to co out for a bit of activity and protect his dedicated younger sister. Of course, his full recovery was a way off, but his body had healed, and Lancelot wasn’t worried about any enemies other than the Lich—he’d already tested that his Foundation Establishnt stage cultivation was sufficient to utilize the Smoke Shadow Dance effectively, enabling his escape if necessary.

Actually, he could have retreated entirely during the previous confrontation with the Lich; it was his greed for victory that led to his downfall. As the saying goes, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and what could be more morable than an experience that nearly took his life?

Incidentally, even though Cranvo promised resurrection even if the bodies were gone, Lancelot suspected the resurrection would not be as ideal as envisioned—at least for him. Even if given a new body, it wouldn’t restore his cultivation power, nor would it likely retain the longevity blessing once bestowed by the Elven High Priest. Though his Divine Sense should remain intact, making future cultivation easier, the losses were still too significant, making him shudder with fear.

Indeed, he should still learn from the life experiences of Master Han.

Other companions were in the group too, except for Tanya—essentially, the apprentice of the Raven Queen was everyone’s hope against the Lich. She was mysteriously unreachable lately, often contacting nobody, clearly busy with unknown matters.

The last ti they t, Lancelot specifically asked her about their plan, but Tanya’s answer was surprising—she didn’t know either. The Half-elf admitted she only found out about the previous Raven Queen manifestation by asking afterward. Nevertheless, her intuition told her the matter was significant, though she was unsure how to proceed, keeping in touch with Raven Queen’s followers seed prudent, awaiting a potential new oracle from her ntor.

This ti, their destination was a mill by a brook, located about ten miles north of Chadegory Town. The mill was powered by a waterwheel, with a larger barn and a smaller farmhouse nearby. When the fog dissipated, Derek Castle could faintly be seen atop a distant hill—the Lich’s stronghold and Fran’s forr ho. Though over twenty miles away, the castle appeared thumb-sized from their viewpoint. Even if Peyton Derrick stood on the terrace watching the scenery, he wouldn’t notice anything unusual here.

Incidentally, after deliberation, they decided not to expose the Zombie Princess for now, just in case Peyton reacted unexpectedly. A bit of discretion seed wiser at this ti.

The group remained vigilant, consisting of Lancelot, his companions, and four raven folk—one had reverted to human form, two lurked in the shadows under the eaves, and one soared high above.

The raven folk who had reverted to human form (and requested Isa’s presence) led them to the barn entrance, guarded by two sturdy, fierce-looking guards. From the tattoos on their necks, it was clear they were gang mbers, and they looked tense with the sudden appearance of the group—fortunately, the raven folk imdiately spoke to dispel their fears.

“Hey, it’s , Danks.” The raven folk opened their hands to show no hostility, keeping everyone’s hands away from their weapon grips. “Your boss should be expecting us, right? We had an appointnt, and if there’s a mistake, we’ll leave imdiately without a fuss. But that’s unlikely, ha! I know you, Bobby and Terry, we’ve had drinks together before, right? You told how your eye got bitten out by a snake…”

Lancelot suddenly recalled that during the flight, this guy seed smaller and had so white feathers at the tail and wing tips, more like a different bird species known for their chatter, which could be kept as pets.
