Abandoning the safe zone was the only option Major Kyle could think of.
"What about the survivors inside the safe zone?" Leo asked in a low voice.
"Of course, flee together. If they want to survive in this apocalypse, they need to face the horrors of it k. How long can a safe zone protect them? How long can soldiers or others provide food and safety to them by putting their lives in danger? This is an apocalypse, not a normal world anymore. Everyone needs to learn to fend for themselves or die," Major Kyle said in a serious tone.
Sylas listened to Major Kyle’s words and knew that whatever he said was the truth.
One cannot depend on others for survival. If you want to survive, you have to face all the challenges yourself. Or else you will only be seen as a parasite, one that can be eliminated or abandoned at any ti.
"I am afraid we don’t have much ti," Sylas said. His expression was not good.
The high-level zombie might lead the army of zombies towards the safe zone at any ti, and they had to be prepared.
"It will be difficult to convince the survivors," Dylan said.
When people get used to comfort, it’s hard to get out of it, and those who want them to leave their comfort zones will beco their enemies.
All of them understood this very clearly.
"We have no choice. Everyone is free to make their own choices. We will warn them and leave the decisions in their hands. It’s up to them whether they will follow us, leave separately, or stay back," Major Kyle said.
"Distribute food for a few days to everyone equally, and after that, let them scavenge for themselves. No one can provide food for them freely forever in this apocalypse. Everyone needs to fight for it themselves," Sylas said.
"We have got enough food supplies this ti, so we will distribute food to all the survivors equally, just like Sylas suggested. As for the rest, it will be up to themselves. We have no choice. Even the governnt might fall. Everything is uncertain. And I am afraid several high-level zombies might have already erged earlier in big cities. So the journey won’t be easy for us, but at the sa ti, the safe zone in the capital is the strongest too. If we want to fight for a chance of survival, it is better to head towards the capital. I will leave the choices to everyone, including you guys. There will be several safe zones on the way, so the survivors can join those safe zones if they can’t continue the journey," Major Kyle said.
The journey from the northern region to the capital was a long journey by car. Airplanes and bullet trains were not in service because of the outbreak of the apocalypse, so the only option was by car.
Major Kyle knew that sooner or later they had to leave, but he didn’t expect that the ti to leave would co so soon, and the ergence of a high-level zombie was sothing he had never expected.
Doctor Farlo was one of the most important scientists in the country, and before losing communication with the higher-ups, Major Kyle was instructed to bring Doctor Farlo to the capital’s safe zone safe and sound. So, no matter what, he had to go to the capital.
The sooner Doctor Farlo joined the research team, the sooner they might find a breakthrough in the zombie virus.
Sylas also wanted to head to the capital. He still rembered the last phone call with his boss, Kaelith. His boss told him to co to the capital, and he knew his boss wouldn’t say anything casually. Kaelith had connections, and he might know sothing other people didn’t know.
The car was silent, and no one spoke for the whole journey back to the base. Given the severity of the situation, no one was in the mood for casual conversation. Even as ability users, their survival was not guaranteed.
When they reached the safe zone, Major Kyle imdiately gathered all the ability users, important personnels, Doctor Farlo, and soldiers who were not on guarding duty. He then told them about the ergence of the high-level zombie and the army of zombies that might attack the safe zone at any ti.
The existence of the zombie army was a ticking ti bomb, and they had to make decisions quickly.
"Leaving by car? Will it be safe?" one of the newly awakened ability users asked.
"We have no choice. Even if we have a plane or helicopter, we can’t use those aerial ans of transportation to leave," Major Kyle said.
"Why?" The newly awakened ability users were confused.
"The governnt would have already used helicopters to evacuate the survivors if helicopters could be used," Doctor Farlo said. The governnt would have already co to take him away and put him in a research lab if helicopters and planes could be used.
"There is sothing in the air. Engines stop working up in the air, and we still don’t know the reason," Major Kyle said.
"No wonder!" everyone exclaid.
Sylas also knew this early on, or else his boss Kaelith would have already co to his rescue.
Major Kyle then told them how to deal with the survivors in the safe zone.
"I am afraid it won’t be easy," Doctor Farlo said.
"We have no choice. We don’t have ti. Gather all the survivors in the ground," Major Kyle said to one of the soldiers.
The soldier imdiately obeyed the command and left the room.
"Sylas, from the supplies we took today, take out the food seeds and hand them to Serena. Let her check if there are any organic seeds in them," Major Kyle said.
The last ti they tried to let Serena grow so food crops, she was not able to grow them. Later, Doctor Farlo concluded that it might be because the seeds were genetically modified or because of the use of fertilizers in food crops. So they decided to check whether organic seeds, untainted by modern chemicals, could be grown using Serena’s ability. If yes, the plant ability user would be the key to survival in this apocalypse. After all, food is the most important thing.
