The Crossroad Plains buzzed with life.

NPC rchants pushed wooden carts piled high with herbs, iron ores, and colorful crystal shards, calling out prices to passing players. Parties gathered around quest boards, checking for rare spawn notices and bounty listings. In the distance, a group of knights trained under the shade of massive willow trees, their armor gleaming beneath the bright sky.

Arianna appeared beside Kieran in a flash of blue light, staff resting against her shoulder as she blinked into existence. She stretched her arms high, her silver ponytail swaying behind her as she let out a loud yawn.

"Morning, world!" she chirped, spinning once before stopping to face him with a grin. "Ready to grind today, Kieran?"

Before he could answer, Jack appeared on her other side, stretching his neck with a lazy roll. His black coat fluttered slightly in the breeze, crackles of black lightning flickering across his shoulders.

"Where’s breakfast?" he muttered, smirking as he reached over and flicked Arianna’s ponytail. She slapped his hand away with an exaggerated glare.

Erren materialized a few feet away, instantly slumping forward with a groan. "Ugh... why am I here. I want to sleep forever," she mumbled, adjusting her deep violet grimoire against her hip as she trudged over to them.

Jason and Elanor appeared last, flickering into place like silent shadows. Jason adjusted the strap of his dagger sheath across his chest, his dark eyes scanning their surroundings with quiet precision. Elanor rolled his shoulders once, golden eyes half-lidded, silent as always.

Jack cracked his knuckles, grinning as he turned to face the group. "Alright, kiddies. Update or not, let’s start simple. Quick monster sweeps to warm up."

Arianna raised her hand instantly, eyes sparkling. "I vote we clear out the West Fields! They’re spawning new elental boars now."

"Boring," Erren drawled, stifling a yawn with the back of her hand. "But fine. I need mana crystals from their tusks anyway."

Without another word, they started walking.

The West Fields stretched wide and flat, golden grass waving in the warm breeze. Small blue and red boars with crystalline horns road in packs, snuffling at the ground with snorts that crackled faintly with elental energy.

"Let’s keep it clean," Jack ordered casually as he drew his sword. "Elanor, pull aggro. Arianna, barrier up."

Elanor stepped forward silently, golden eyes glowing faintly. He inhaled slowly, and then his entire body blurred forward.

CRACK!

He slamd his fist into the largest boar’s tusk, sending it flying back with a pained squeal. The other boars instantly turned, their fur bristling as lightning and fire crackled across their bodies.

"Barrier: Diamond Aegis!" Arianna chanted brightly, slamming her staff into the ground. A translucent cyan shield shimred around the group as the boars charged.

Erren raised her grimoire, golden runes flickering across its violet cover. "Mana Drain. Weakness Exposure."

Jason vanished into the shadows, reappearing behind the largest boar with a flicker of black mist. His dagger flashed, carving through its hind leg with clean precision before he faded away again.

Jack stepped forward, spinning his sword lazily in one hand. "Lightning Step," he whispered.

BOOM!

In a blink, he appeared in front of the boars, his blade sparking with black lightning as he slashed in a wide arc.

CRACK!

Three boars fell instantly, their HP bars emptying in a single flash of violet sparks.

Kieran stood slightly apart from the group, his violet eyes tracking their movents with quiet focus. Then he drew his new sword, the Sovereign Edge, and stepped forward.

A boar turned towards him, its eyes glowing bright red as molten cracks ford across its tusks. It charged, earth trembling beneath its feet.

Kieran flicked his wrist.

SHINK!

His blade slashed across its throat in a clean, effortless arc. The boar froze mid-charge, eyes flickering once before it collapsed into shimring data fragnts.

"Clean," Jack said approvingly, glancing back at him. "Your moves are sharper today."

Kieran didn’t reply. He just sheathed his sword, violet eyes scanning the field for any remaining mobs.

Within minutes, the West Fields were quiet, littered with crystal drops and faintly glowing loot orbs.

"Alright, loot sweep!" Arianna sang as she skipped from corpse to corpse, gathering tusks and mana crystals with bright-eyed glee.

Erren flicked her wrist, looting her share with a bored expression. Jason simply moved from body to body in silence, his shadow flickering behind him like a silent echo.

Elanor stood quietly near the treeline, cleaning blood off his knuckles with a small white cloth. Jack leaned against his sword, smirking as he watched Arianna bounce around with childlike energy.

Kieran crouched down, picking up a glowing blue crystal shard. As his fingers closed around it, he felt a faint vibration pulse up his arm. He frowned, turning the shard over in his palm. It felt... different. Warr. Almost real.

His chest tightened as he slipped it into his inventory.

Abilities synced with neural pathways.

Skills imprinting muscle mory into reality.

He clenched his fist around the handle of his sword, feeling the subtle hum of its energy travel up his wrist, into his forearm, up to his shoulder. His breath caught quietly.

This was no longer just a ga.

"Oi, genius."

He blinked, looking up to see Jack staring down at him, eyebrow raised.

"You spacing out again?" Jack asked lazily. "We’re heading back to town to turn in the quest."

Kieran nodded once, rising to his feet. Arianna jogged over, looping her arm through his with a bright smile.

"Co on, let’s get cake after this," she said cheerfully. "You promised, rember?"

He blinked. "I... don’t rember promising."

"Too late," she chirped, pulling him along. "You promised in my heart, so it counts."

Jack snorted behind them. "You’re such a brat."

Erren rolled her eyes, mumbling under her breath. "Gods, she’s like a golden retriever with magic."

Jason walked beside Kieran silently, eyes watching him from beneath dark lashes. Elanor brought up the rear, silent as ever, his golden eyes half-closed with calm indifference.

They walked back through the fields, the afternoon sun casting long shadows behind them.

Back at the Crossroad settlent, they turned in their quest at the NPC guild clerk, a small blue-haired woman with glasses too large for her small face. Arianna bounced on her toes as she received her EXP rewards and loot credits.

"Cake cake cake cake cake cake cake," she chanted under her breath, making Erren groan softly in secondhand embarrassnt.

Jack ruffled Arianna’s hair roughly. "Calm down, princess. You’ll get your sugar rush soon."

Jason walked up to Kieran as the others bickered quietly. He stood there for a mont, eyes studying him in silent calm.

"You okay?" he asked softly.

Kieran blinked, looking up at him. "Yeah. Why?"

Jason tilted his head slightly, shadows flickering across his sharp cheekbones as the neon lights of the quest hall shifted from blue to crimson.

"You’re... different today," he said simply.

Kieran’s chest tightened faintly. He forced a small smile. "Just thinking."

Jason humd quietly, his eyes narrowing with unreadable thought. Then he reached out and tapped Kieran lightly on the chest, right over his heart.

"Don’t think too hard," he murmured. "Just... stay here. For now."

And with that, he turned away, walking over to join the others as they exited the quest hall. Kieran stood there for a mont longer, feeling the phantom warmth of Jason’s touch against his chest.

He exhaled softly.

Outside, the golden sun dipped lower, casting the Crossroad settlent in rich amber light. Players bustled along cobbled streets, blacksmith hamrs rang through the air, and rchant carts rattled under heavy loads of loot.

Kieran stepped forward to join his party as they walked into the orange-tinted streets, their laughter and casual bickering drifting back towards him.

And far above the skies of Eclipse Online, beyond the hidden towers of NovaCorp, Adams watched with pale grey eyes, a small smile playing at his lips as the update spread its roots deeper into reality.

Finally... the ga had begun.

And this ti, no one would log out.
