Chapter 496: Chapter 409, Asking is Pointless

Dwarves?

Port work was simply not suitable for the dwarven race.

Wu Heng continued to ask, “Did he do anything suspicious?”

The body quickly answered, “No discovery.”

“Has he touched your body?”

“He has touched it.”

...

“Describe his physical characteristics.”

“Middle-aged male, long hair, eyes always squinted, a thin scar at the corner of the lower lip, wearing plain long clothes.”

There was one last question remaining.

Wu Heng pondered for a while, “Besides this person, who do you think most wanted to kill ‘Mackintosh’?”

“Sea Dog Gang!”

With the five questions concluded, the body lay down again.

Wu Heng waved his hand, “Wrap up the body.”

Several people stepped forward and re-wrapped the grass mat.

Wu Heng directly tucked it into the Space Ring.

Then he took a carriage back to the Old Barrel Tavern.

He pushed the door open and entered the tavern, where even more people had gathered.

They were wearing armor and had weapons on the tables.

The two who had led the way earlier quickly walked over and whispered sothing to Baldy.

The latter’s expression beca even more gloomy.

Baldy ca straight back, “Deputy Steward.”

Wu Heng nodded and asked, “Did your n tell you?”

“They did, ntioning a dwarven worker.”

During the interrogation of the corpse, those two weren’t asked to leave, so they had heard so of the details as well.

“Hmm, I will take those three bodies back for the coroner to examine the cause of death; it doesn’t look like they died from fighting,” he said, and then with a glance over the crowd in the tavern, he reminded, “Wait for our investigation. If you act on conjecture, then the side that’s in the right, will no longer be in the right.”

Baldy fell silent for a mont and then spoke up, “I know, we won’t act rashly.”

“That’s all for today then.”

“Okay.”

At a critical mont, a carriage was prepared again, taking everyone to leave the island.

The carriage went straight back to the guild.

After delivering the bodies to the morgue, Squad Eleven disbanded to go ho and rest.

They would continue the investigation from the guild entrance the next morning.

Wu Heng also returned to his office and called Andre Willow to go ho together.

At ho, in the study.

Wu Heng reviewed the clues of the day.

He didn’t have much of a favorable impression of ‘Mackintosh’, this woman, and in fact, had not even t her twice.

But her sudden death still felt sowhat regrettable.

When he was assassinated by the Spider Tribe, it was her accurate intelligence that had precisely pinned down the position of the enemy.

But this ti, she alone hadn’t anticipated her own danger.

The clues at hand were not many, or perhaps weren’t even considered clues at all.

The only lead to follow was the dwarven worker ntioned by the third body.

That was a possible angle to investigate further.

He thought to himself.

Glenda slipped in through the ceiling.

Materializing in the room, she said, “They first went to the port, then to Black Crow’s Nest to inquire about the situation, took a bag of money from the owner, and then went to the Sea Dog Gang, taking away two bags of money.”

Goodness, these people made quite a bit on their outing.

“I’ll take a look at the situation.”

Glenda directly entered his body, and a segnt of the scene was shared in his mind.

Black Crow’s Nest Tavern.

Glenda’s perspective followed the Guard Team into the tavern.

The patrons inside were driven out of the room, or up to their rooms above.

Only then did the tavern’s owner co out, his face full of ingratiating smiles.

“First Mate Fulvio, if you had said sothing in advance, I could have prepared so fine wines for you.”

“I am the captain now,” the captain said as he patted the armor on his body.

“Yes, I rember that.”

The Captain of the Guard Team scanned the surroundings, “Gather your key mbers; I need to investigate so matters.”

The owner wanted to say sothing, but seeing the stern look on the captain’s face, he nodded and called out his key mbers.

“Register them. Note down their occupations and levels. When the attempt on the Old Barrel Tavern occurred, I want to know what each of you was doing; bring forth evidence to prove it,” the captain commanded as he stood with one foot on a chair.

The guards behind him registered everybody.

Then, they handed it to him for inspection.

After reviewing the information, he didn’t find anything suspicious but still lingered in the tavern.

The owner had a mont of realization, had soone prepare a small bag of silver coins, and quietly handed it to him.

Reverting to a smile, the captain stood up and said, “Keep an eye on your n. No one is to leave the island until the matter is cleared up. If anyone leaves, I will hold you accountable.”

The owner nodded in agreent and saw them off.

In the courtyard of the Sea Dog Gang.

The Captain of the Guard Team walked back and forth with his hands behind him, muttering, “Soone attempted assassination at the Old Barrel on the portside; they suspect it was your doing. The victim only suffered minor injuries. Whover did it, step forward, pay a sum, and we’ll settle it. If you don’t own up and I find out, things won’t be that simple.”

Silence still prevailed across from him.

The gang leader was a beard-draped dwarf.

By his side stood key mbers and so lackeys of the gang.

Humans, dwarves, and short people alike were there, a much more diverse crowd than at Black Crow’s Nest.

The gang leader stepped forward with a brief explanation, drawing out two bags of money and handed them over.

The other side, with a look akin to scrutinizing a criminal, eased up considerably,

“No one is permitted to leave the island for now; our investigation will continue.”

Having said that, he left with all his n.

In the scene, Wu Heng, through Glenda’s perspective, focused on the records taken during the inquiries about their occupations.

He didn’t find any professions that could be related to snakes.

There were several dwarves with varying hair lengths, but no precise perspectives for more detailed appearances were available.

He allowed Glenda to go back out.

He asked, “What are they doing now?”

“They took the money and went off to eat, seemingly not all that concerned about the case,” Glenda floated beside him.

“Gang conflicts don’t affect them much, obviously, they wouldn’t care much. They’re probably willing to wander around and ask because Old Barrel offered a reward.”

“Right, a bunch of pirates wouldn’t bother investigating a case.” Glenda floated to the other side. “Any leads on your end?”

Wu Heng moved his shoulders, “I found so information about a dwarf.”

“A dwarf?” Glenda floated to another side, “The Sea Dog Gang has dwarven key mbers, if we’re focusing only on these two places, we can check out the Sea Dog Gang.”

Wu Heng nodded, “I’ll check it out tomorrow.”

anwhile, back at the tavern.

A Ranger hurried in, scanning the area quickly.

Seeing the location of the Guard Team, he walked straight over and sat down on a chair, “Captain, they’ve gone back.”

“Any leads?”

The Ranger replied, “They went to the port, then examined the worker corpses that had been found with the snakes. The association’s leading team seems to be that young Necromancer Deputy Steward. He conducted an interrogation of the corpses.”

The captain slamd the table, “Damn, I forgot to check those corpses.”

Then he frowned and looked at the Ranger, “Did you say it was that Necromancer Deputy Steward? That young?”

“It should be him. Nobody else in another profession could speak with the dead so easily.”

The captain narrowed his eyes and pondered for a mont.

He spoke again, “Did they find out anything?”

“Not sure of the details; they had Tad Beasts constantly interfering with too. But judging by their expressions, they seed quite disappointed.”

“Asking them was a waste of ti.” The captain scoffed, “Alright, let’s eat. We’ll talk more tomorrow.”
