"Alright, I’ll wait for him at ho."

After hanging up, she sat down on the sofa.

After sitting for about an hour, she suddenly got up to find sothing in the fridge and slowly began to eat.

Recently, her appetite had been very good, and she was always hungry quickly.

"Mommy."

Marcus appeared at the staircase, rubbing his eyes, wearing a fuzzy pajama.

"Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

He glanced at the ti; it was already midnight. Wasn’t this person always clamoring about needing her beauty sleep?

Just after Marcus finished speaking, they heard the sound of a car engine outside, probably signaling Hugo’s return.

Eleanor Hollis hurried to the door, opened it with excitent.

Sure enough, it was Hugo, but his face showed a hint of exhaustion, and he had no expression when he saw her.

"Honey, you’re back."

Eleanor approached ingratiatingly, looping her arm around his.

Hugo looked down at her sycophantic face, his lips barely curving into a smile.

These days, he had been sulking to himself, while Eleanor, this carefree person, hadn’t even noticed his displeasure.

"I only found out about the news online today, honey. It’s definitely not true, Miles Jenkins invited for dinner just to thank , that’s all."

At the ntion of Miles Jenkins, Hugo’s just-raised lips dropped instantly, and his expression turned somber.

"Stay away from him!"

Only a man would know what the look in Miles’ eyes signifies—it was affection, and a strong one at that.

Miles was a university student, not yet graduated and hadn’t encountered many won before. Facing soone like Eleanor, it was certainly easy to fall in.

Eleanor’s face stiffened, her heart jolting at his shout, and she actually felt sowhat wronged.

"Do you really think there’s sothing between us? Like what the internet says?"

Hugo didn’t respond, feeling inexplicably frustrated.

He couldn’t very well tell her that Miles truly had feelings for her.

He knew Eleanor only saw Miles as a younger brother, but clearly, Miles did not see it that way.

Sotis, a man’s persistence is terrifying, and Miles’ eyes were filled with his affection for Eleanor, combined with a touch of obsession. Without proper guidance, Miles might make mistakes in the future.

"It’s not that I..."

Before he could finish, Eleanor ran upstairs in a huff, not looking back at him.

Hugo felt a headache coming on, watching her run straight to the bedroom and slam the door shut.

"Dad, why are you two fighting again?"

Marcus was still standing at the staircase, seemingly not quite processing the scene he just witnessed.

Hugo rubbed his temples, went over and tousled Marcus’s hair.

"Your mom is like a child, and so are you, always making worry."

Marcus snorted coldly. When had he ever been a worry? The teachers always said he was the most reliable child.

After sending Marcus back to bed, Hugo stood sowhat troubled outside the bedroom door.

The door had been locked from the inside; he couldn’t open it.

"Eleanor Hollis."

He patted the door, feeling aggrieved. Was this woman planning to sleep separately from him? That was out of the question.

Lying on the bed, Eleanor heard Hugo’s voice outside, pouting her lips, she turned her back and ignored him.

This man had actually scolded her, suspected her and Miles’s relationship.

"Eleanor, open the door. I didn’t an it that way; we need to have a proper talk."

Hugo was still standing by the door, but half an hour passed, and there was no sound from inside.

He sighed, went downstairs to retrieve the spare key, gently inserted it into the lock, and turned it; the door clicked open.

By the light from the window, he saw Eleanor lying on the bed, facing away from him, sulking like a child.

Hugo found it amusing, reaching out to nudge her arm.

Eleanor kept her eyes tightly shut, pretending to be asleep.

Hugo, without a choice, slightly bowed his head.

"If you don’t wake up, I’m going to kiss you."

Waiting for about a minute, with no response from Eleanor, Hugo leaned over, lightly pecking her lips.

"Jerk!"

Eleanor opened her eyes to say, rubbing her mouth fiercely.

Hugo raised an eyebrow, pressed her under him.

"You didn’t say that before."

Eleanor blushed, feeling like this man was becoming more shaless.

They lingered for a while, both sweating considerably.

Finally, Hugo held her, gently stroking her hair.

"I know you think of Miles as a brother, but what about Miles? Do you know his thoughts? That kid had a rough environnt growing up; it influences his character. I’ve already investigated him, he’s sowhat obsessive, especially toward things he likes. Eleanor, he’s not a gentle little rabbit; on the contrary, he’s soone with ideas and is willing to take risks."

He’s a top student at a prestigious university yet willing to do livestreaming, which already shows he can endure humiliation.

After all, lots of people still misunderstand streaming these days, let alone his friends around him.

Eleanor was silent, actually realizing during that dinner with Miles, he’d been avoiding her gaze. She had thought he was shy, but now it seed Hugo might be right.

"Eleanor, never underestimate your charm. n are most fond of won like you."

Hugo held her tightly, kissed the top of her head, then closed his eyes.

Eleanor remained silent; Hugo was her partner, spending ti with her day and night, he should be able to see that she was insecure, never feeling she was very attractive.

They fell asleep embracing each other, not saying anything further.

The next morning, Eleanor went online and saw a ssage from Miles Jenkins. She had given him her WeChat previously, and now Miles ssaged her every day, though she hadn’t responded to all of them.

Now, after Hugo’s stern words, she understood clearer, so she didn’t reply to him.

Miles kept ssaging for several days, feeling increasingly uneasy when he saw no reply from her.

He scrolled back through the chat history, carefully rereading what she had sent before, feeling a hint of sweetness mingled with his emotions.

He resembled a dark figure, hiding in the corner, holding onto this secret affection.

For two weeks in a row, Eleanor didn’t reply to him.

Miles began to panic, ssaging her obsessively.

"Did I do sothing wrong? You can tell , and I’ll change."

"Did I upset you?"

He asked cautiously, seeing ssage after ssage he’d sent, his eyes reddened instantly.

He must have gone mad to send all those, yet it was too late to pull them back.
