Chapter 234: Sensory Deviation
At the entrance of Sunshine Large Hospital, a large group of survivors from the hotel arrived.
Even before they entered the hospital, these people were warmly welcod by the apprentices, as if the place was completely unaffected by death.
On the rooftop.
‘Helvoye (Baron and Lotson)’ stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze sweeping over the survivors who were eagerly squeezing into the hospital below. His eyes could even directly see through their skin, observing the neatly arranged blood vessels and the hearts that were quickly thumping due to nervousness within their bodies.
It was as if he was watching bags of fresh blood entering his own warehouse.
It was a pity that they were just ordinary blood packs;
the physical bodies he truly wanted had not shown up.
...
“Where on earth has William Behrens gone? Death’s erosion has spread to every corner of the city, and all gentlen are fleeing for their lives. Logically, he should have co to the hospital to et with us first thing.
Could he really have died on the way?”
“That’s unlikely, a guy who can dominate two monster-level teammates would definitely not die easily here. Let’s wait a little longer, he will surely co.
Why don’t we go down and sample this batch of blood packs in the anti? There might be so good stuff mixed in.”
…
[Sunshine Hotel]
In a luxury room at the corner of the top floor, six gentlen who had reached their limits squeezed into a circle, each watching a direction while maintaining contact with their bodies at all tis, with their gentleman’s clothes even interweaving materials with each other.
At the sa ti, everyone continuously counted from 1 to 6.
In such a situation, any significant movent from one person would definitely be noticed by the others.
But as only two minutes passed,
1, 2,
there was no ensuing call for number 3.
When they looked around, the sense of fear instantly overflowed, causing so people’s legs to begin trembling.
The circle that was supposed to consist of six people had inexplicably beco five;
the intelligence-type gentleman nad Joseph, who was skilled in fla magic, vanished as if he had been erased.
What was more outrageous was that the two gentlen who had been on either side of Joseph were now leaning on each other, and both of them felt absolutely nothing.
“How is that possible!”
Facing the unknown that could not be understood, everyone panicked, their ntal defenses nearly collapsing.
Even Yi Chen’s expression was contorted in confusion, unable to comprehend what was happening before his eyes. However, he was not frightened or in a panic;
instead, he fell into an extrely excited state of thinking.
During his life in the orphanage, and later on as a deceased person entering society,
Yi Chen had encountered many inexplicable situations, but by calming down and thinking, he could always find clues and gradually figure out a way to break through.
This process, though dangerous, was very intriguing.
The feeling of trampling the unknown underfoot made Yi Chen insatiable.
Hum! Behind his head, the emblem that symbolized the “student’s profession” began to ‘turn pages’ under the activity of his brain tissue,
The elevation of thought brought about by intelligence reaching its limit, rapidly integrating so details from the occurrence of the disappearance to the present, launching an incredibly comprehensive analysis.
“Initially, the disappearances happened to those who were distant from the group, either on the outskirts or at the back. To achieve such disappearances, many thods could be used.
For example, by freezing ti to move people away, or by taking people away at a sufficiently fast speed.
But during the last one, everyone was alert and huddled into a circle, maintaining the ‘connectivity’ of the gentleman’s clothes.
To quietly whisk people away, this ‘connectivity’ must be broken;
the gentleman’s skin must be severed. This substance, produced by the Old World, is deeply bound to each of us.
If there had been any severing, we would have all felt it.
Unless…”
The smoking brain at this mont pinpointed the key issue.
“Unless the adversary could also manipulate the Gentleman’s Skin and had mastery and basic paraters such as Skin Content far above ours.
Could it be that there’s a Gentlen Corpse in the hotel possessing a Skin Volu that far exceeds ours, even breaking the limit? No, that can’t be right;
if soone like that were here earlier, they would’ve stopped us from purging the dead from the hotel. It must be soone who has just arrived.”
“Everyone, hold hands and proceed to the rooftop;
we need to combat in an open and spacious environnt.”
With enough authority already established in the hearts of others, when Yi Chen shouted this, the unsettled psyche of the group was once again stabilized.
Crash! The window shattered.
Everyone followed the instruction, holding hands as they climbed out of the window together.
They were now on the top floor, with just one more level to climb to reach the spacious rooftop area… The open area would allow Perception to diverge, and perhaps they would be able to detect the opponent’s “Stealing People’s Skills”.
But during the process of climbing out of the window and up the stairs, the team was reduced by one person again.
This ti, it wasn’t a disappearance but a thirty-year-old man nad Cliff whose “Coordination” had reached its limit and who possessed animalistic traits such as gliding and cushioning.
Instead of trusting Yi Chen to lead them to the rooftop, he believed he stood a better chance of survival by escaping from the hotel.
In the midst of climbing out, he kicked with his legs and made a suprely perfect leap of faith.
Under his armpits, wing-like mbranes similar to a bat’s sprouted, allowing him to glide through the air as he attempted to fly directly to the hospital not too far away, using the hotel’s height.
After gliding a distance, he even turned his head to look back at his temporary companions on the rooftop,
“Everyone, once I successfully reach the Sunshine Hospital, I’ll report the hotel’s situation and strive to call in support troops. You all must…”
He didn’t finish his sentence.
The normally gliding Cliff suddenly had a vacant expression, as if his senses had been stripped away, he fell freely head first… Thump! Another corpse was added as a marker on the street.
Yi Chen, although his eyes were covered, could deduce what had happened simply by analyzing the sudden halt in Cliff’s sentence and the sound of a skull smashing.
From a team of nine, only four remained, and only twenty minutes had passed.
The survivors included Yi Chen, Barry, Mariti (a thirty-year-old woman with a Big Curved Sword on her back and chanical goggles), and Waterad (a middle-aged man with stubble dressed in a light blue robe, capable of providing rapid healing and Water Attribute attacks).
Waterad sighed helplessly, “It seems our reckless healing within the hotel successfully angered the Death Root lurking deep within the city.
Although I never expected to die a peaceful death, when true Death approaches, I still feel fear.
I really want to live, to enjoy the excitent of eating Mrs. Shelley’s at pies at the street corner every day.”
Mariti, with the Big Curved Sword, also left her last words: “I thought I could hold out in Levinho for a few more years and eventually return to Zion. I never imagined there wouldn’t be another chance. I really wanted to see what lies beyond the Limit… Is my Talent still not enough?”
Barry alone didn’t make any last statents,
Yi Chen too tasted the incongruity of it. Everyone was a gentleman who had reached their Limit, and although they hadn’t broken through, they must have experienced life-and-death monts.
Even facing a completely unknown Deadly predicant, they shouldn’t be in such a hurry to deliver last words.
As gentlen, their valor should be invoked during such conditions, focusing on the battle rather than wasting ti on useless talk that could disturb their teammates’ mindset.
As Yi Chen considered this dissonance, an epiphany flashed through his mind.
“Sensory line…”
He imdiately shifted his attention, focusing on the “Review” in his brain, and indeed discovered a faint, almost imperceptible thread connected deep within his brain.
Clang~ He instantly controlled the Iron Chains within his body to move to his brain area and severed the thread.
Snap! The thread broke.
The sound of the wind on the rooftop, the breathing of his teammates, the touch of their bodies against his, and the slls emanating from everyone vanished.
In their place was the sound of dripping water and the unique sll of a bathroom.
“This is!”
Yi Chen imdiately ripped off his blindfold,
He was not on the “Rooftop” at all, but standing in the guest room bathroom! The mirror reflected his pallid, corpse-like face, ti seemingly returned to the mont when Barry told him his complexion was very poor.
Yi Chen hadn’t left the bathroom since he entered,
The reason he felt he had left, interacted with Barry and his teammates, and witnessed their sequential disappearances… all tactile, auditory, and olfactory feedback had been fabricated, all false information transmitted to the brain by that slender thread just now.
When he stepped out of the bathroom, Barry and the other teammates had long since disappeared.
The very mont he left the guest room, an exceedingly dangerous Aura assaulted him from the end of the corridor, a presence far surpassing all the gentlen he had ever slain.
At the end of the hallway,
a handso man with threads dancing between his fingers approached slowly, his gentleman’s clothes tattered and emanating breaths of Death, with even putrefying wounds on his scalp revealing a grim skull beneath.
“It’s Vice Principal Evatt!”
“You actually managed to find the ‘Sensory Line’ I hid deep in your brain. I was planning to deal with the others first, then take you directly back to the master. Now it seems I have to spend a bit more ti…”
