Ye Yan’s smile gradually faded, revealing a grief-stricken expression, "How could anyone joke about such a thing? After Ayuan’s accident, the Ye Family sent many people to verify the facts. Every single mber who went on the mission with Ayuan perished at sea, without exception."

He took a step forward, reaching out to pat her shoulder, but Ye Jiuliang stepped aside to avoid it, leaving him grasping at air.

Gracefully retracting his hand, he continued, "Jiuliang, I know your father’s death is a terrible blow to you, but he was my own brother, and my grief is no less than yours. Be so stubborn no longer; you should co back for Ayuan’s death anniversary to fulfill your filial duties."

"Heh."

A cold laugh with an ambiguous aning erged.

Ye Jiuliang stood up, her brows slightly rebellious, "Uncle, your words will linger in my heart. I have other matters to attend to, so I will take my leave. We’ll talk another ti."

She turned and walked away, her departing figure carefree.

Ye Yan watched her back, a profound aning flickering deep in his eyes.

Too clever for her own good, she can’t be kept around.

A City

The sky was overcast, the misty rain blurring the view.

In the presidential suite, the lights shone brightly.

After reporting the schedule, Wei Bei looked up at the man not far away. The gleaming floor-to-ceiling window was streaked with fine rain, blurring the man’s hard contours.

Even a few ters away, he could feel the gloomy low pressure emanating from him.

Without guessing, he knew his master’s bad mood was surely related to Ye Jiuliang; she was the only one who could consistently evoke emotional fluctuations in him.

The endless silence was almost too much for Wei Bei to bear.

He deadpanned, "Master, why don’t you look at these docunts first?"

After a while, the figure finally moved from in front of the window.

Li Mochan turned around, his icy gaze sweeping over a stack of docunts on the table, then he strode over with a dignified air.

He had just sat down when Wei Bei imdiately handed him a pen.

Li Mochan picked up the docunts and skimd them quickly, his speed did not compromise his ability to pinpoint each docunt’s shortcomings.

With pen in hand, he marked up the papers, the stack shrinking rapidly.

Beside him, Wei Bei breathed a sigh of relief.

It was the first ti he felt so ntally exhausted on a business trip.

After a while, Li Mochan put down the pen, Wei Bei bent down, scooping up the docunts, "Master, I’ll step out now."

After speaking, he quickly ran out, closing the door behind him.

"Bang—"

Li Mochan lowered his gaze to the phone on the desk—the black screen irritated him, worsening his mood.

For three whole days, not a single ssage from her.

He picked up the phone and opened WeChat—on the clean interface, there was only one contact.

Note—Little Rascal!

His grip on the phone tightened, annoyance flickering in his deep eyes, and on closer inspection, a hint of hidden anticipation.

Little Rascal, truly forgot all about .

He flung the phone down with force, stood up, and walked towards the door only to turn back and pick up the phone again.

Little Rascal, I’ll give you five more minutes.

The atmosphere, turning colder.

Five minutes went by—the screen was still pitch black.

No WeChat, no phone calls, nothing.

Li Mochan’s eyes dimd slightly, tinged with a hint of desolation.

He placed the phone face down on the table, with a scowl.

The next second, the phone suddenly chid with the sound of a WeChat notification.

Instantly, the heart that had fallen to the depths soared.

Li Mochan tapped open WeChat and saw an unread ssage from Ye Jiuliang.

When he slid it open, he saw that Ye Jiuliang had sent an emoji -- a chibi version of a little lion rolling on the ground.

It was accompanied by two words -- bored.

Li Mochan’s lips curled into a smile, the first one in two days.

He replied quickly, "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

On the other end, Ye Jiuliang was lying on the sofa. Sleeping all day resulted in her being unable to sleep that night, and feeling bored, she thought to harass Li Mochan, assuming he was too busy to reply to her. To her surprise, he actually responded to her ssage.

Ye Jiuliang instantly felt spirited, sat up, and the mischievous smile was on her lips again. She instantly replied, "Can’t sleep."

Less than ten seconds later, he replied, "Why?"

"Slept too much during the day."

Seeing her response, Li Mochan couldn’t hide the amusent in his eyes, his typing speed increased, "Did you prepare well for the exam in a few days?"

When she received his reply, Ye Jiuliang almost threw her phone into the trash can.

In the dead of night, starting a conversation about exams.

Does Li Mochan have a problem?

The chat window suddenly popped open a video call, and Li Mochan was stunned for a mont before quickly hitting accept.

The girl’s smiling face appeared in the video, her loosely flowing hair still damp, draped over a baggy short-sleeved shirt.

She clearly had just taken a shower.

"Li Fifth Master, can we not talk about the exam? It’s really disheartening," she complained in a soft, unsatisfied tone.

Li Mochan chuckled and steered the conversation in a direction she preferred, "What have you been up to these days?" Too busy to even send a ssage to him.

"Classes, sleeping," she said.

Li Mochan asked with half-belief, "That honest?"

Hearing this, Ye Jiuliang fought the urge to smash her phone and called out his full na, "Li Mochan, do I look like soone who hops around everywhere?"

Yes. Li Mochan secretly snorted to himself.

It was rare for the little wolf cub to take the initiative to contact him, and he couldn’t afford to truly infuriate her, so he tactfully changed the subject, "Did you go to the racing track in the West Suburb?"

"Did Feng Yi tell you?" Ye Jiuliang asked.

Li Mochan grunted in confirmation, "Went for another motorcycle ride?"

Feeling uncomfortable sitting, Ye Jiuliang slanted her body and just lay down on the sofa, "Yeah, just to spin around a couple of tis."

The racetrack in the West Suburb had a pretty decent track, and she had not expected to run into Feng Yi there by such a coincidence.

"What happened to your forehead?" Her hair was disheveled, and there was a slight red bruise on the left side of her forehead, swelling into a small bump. Li Mochan’s eyes suddenly darkened as he noticed it.

Ye Jiuliang paused, touched her forehead and said helplessly, "Bumped it."

"Did soone pick a fight with you again?" The thought caused Li Mochan’s eyes to deepen with nace.

"Cough cough."

Knowing he had misunderstood, Ye Jiuliang honestly revealed, "I fell out of bed this afternoon while sleeping and hit the floor."

"..."

Li Mochan’s aggression instantly dissipated completely.

A few seconds later, he started to laugh softly.

"Don’t laugh," Ye Jiuliang glared at him, but that glaring look, in Li Mochan’s eyes, was just adorably fierce and had no deterrent effect.

"Alright, I won’t laugh." He said so with his mouth, but the smile in his eyes remained.

Ye Jiuliang rolled her eyes inelegantly, "Forget it, I won’t chat with you anymore. I might as well go for a walk."

"Where to?" Li Mochan frowned.

Unsettled even late at night.

"Going on a date with my boyfriend," she tossed back at him, causing Li Mochan’s face to darken on the spot.
