Chapter 423: Why?

A few weeks later… Zaos was in his office while looking at the special glove that he made to seal Milliendra’s power. Over the years, he improved it considerably. Still, despite that, now the glove could only work for a single hour… an accident was bound to happen that way. Unfortunately, he didn’t find any way to stop the curse of the demon god for good.

Zaos looked through the window of his office and saw Milliendra playing with the other kids while wearing a replica of the magic glove. She had beco big enough to even learn how to protect herself, so she had so lessons from Kat now and then. Milliendra really looked like her mother when she was young. Thanks to Zaos’ rcenaries, any rumor about her quickly died before reaching the port towns. Still… that wasn’t enough.

“Shit… eight years, and I didn’t stop this damn curse,” Zaos muttered.

Zaos succeeded in many other areas over the last few years. His rcenaries group had eleven branches in other towns, all because he destroyed the bases of those who even thought about attacking his base. He had almost three thousand rcenaries working for him… and after so long, he was finally profiting from all that hard work. He had a vast production of mana potions, and he even cultivated the plants that made the poison that drains the mana, health, and stamina from those who are poisoned by it. Zaos knew how deadly that poison could be, so he decided to look for it and cultivate it to use against demons when the ti ca. Despite all that, he felt pretty worthless since he didn’t achieve his main goal.

Zaos was even preparing counterasures against the demons since he was already thinking that he wouldn’t succeed in lifting the curse. Perhaps that was the only way… wait for Milliendra to summon the demon god and then kill the bastard. However, that was too risky…

Zaos decided to keep trying since he didn’t have any other option. Still, in the end, a disaster happened much sooner than he had predicted. Three days after Zaos wondered about what he should do, he suddenly heard many screams coming from the training grounds. He jumped the window of his office, and when he saw the kids who were playing with Milliendra terrorized over sothing. He saw Milliendra standing in shock in the middle and a boy in front of her unconscious.

Zaos clicked his tongue while imagining the worst, and then he approached and noticed that the boy’s presence had only weakened, and he fell unconscious due to the fact that his mana was drained. Zaos looked at Milliendra, and he saw her trembling… her gloves broke for so reason, and that was why the effects stopped.

“What happened?” Aleni asked when she suddenly appeared alongside other rcenaries.

“Take her inside and close the windows and doors,” Zaos said.

Aleni understood what had happened after hearing that. She hugged Milliendra and then quickly disappeared. The kids finally stopped screaming since Milliendra’s aura only worked when she was being seen by others. He approached the boy and then made him drink a mana potion. Fortunately, after a couple of seconds, he woke up, and Zaos couldn’t see anything wrong with him.

“What happened, boss?” One of the rcenaries asked.

“Just an accident… nothing too serious,” Zaos asked, and then he helped the boy to get up. “All right? Do you feel anything?”

“Yes… boss,” the boy replied.

“What about you guys… how do you feel?” Zaos asked the other kids.

“Fine… but Millie suddenly looked weird… like she wasn’t the sa person anymore.”

Another boy replied, his na was Heiti, and he was one of Milliendra’s best friends. He probably had beco a good friend of Milliendra because he looked a little bit like Zaos with his light brown hair and eyes. It seed like the kids didn’t understand what had happened. Still, Heiti trembled all over when he recalled what he saw… it was just Milliendra’s absurd magic aura.

“I will see what happens, for the ti being, you guys should return to your rooms and rest,” Zaos said, and then he left when the kids nodded.

Zaos had been extra careful over the last five years not to show any magic to Milliendra. Still, her draining power grew even despite that. While the other kids didn’t know any spell either. They still had around thirty points of mana. Despite that, Milliendra made a boy collapse with a single touch. Most likely, her powers made the durability of the magic glove decrease and beco useless.

When Zaos entered his room, he saw Milliendra being hugged and patted by Aleni, but she still didn’t calm down. Fortunately, only the kids looked at her, so they couldn’t understand or explain what had happened. Still, Zaos had a feeling that those monts would be revived by them even if she were to appear again wearing another magic item… Zaos’ plan to build a nice place for her completely backfired his idea to raise without letting her realize about the powers.

“Daddy… Why did everyone look at like that?” Milliendra asked. “As if I were so monster?”

“It was an accident…” Zaos said and then forced a smile. “You are a bit too young to understand this, but there is a reason why we always make you wear these gloves.”

“Why do I have to?” Milliendra asked.
