Chapter 398: Chapter 398 – Elisabeth’s Worry
Arthur and the rest wanted to pat Elisabeth for the lost look she had right now. But ti was running out and I wanted to go as well.
“So what’s the deal with you guys? Did you guys realize that you would make a fantastic circus group?” I have a fantastic smile on seeing their washed out looks, “Alright, forget about that, how’s the sleep? Did you guys eat anything?”
“No, they had locked us up and bound us tightly while closing off all forms of communication after we got caught.” Arthur answered, “Do you have anything for us?”
“Fortunately for you, I don’t.”
“How’s that fortunate?” Arthur felt conflicted at whether his eting with Henry is good fate or bad.
“Because these guys do.” I point to the dead body a soldier just carried past us. “And you guys killed a lot of them so I’d say the storage should be good enough.”
I signal a soldier, “Bring these people so food from the kitchen room towards the left where there’s a secret compartnt, there are a lot of hidden stuff.” The soldier nodded and was about to go off, “Oh! And make sure to confiscate all the jewelry and money too!”
“Yes, Captain!” The soldier saluted and took four more n with him.
“Captain?” Arthur raised a brow, “Did you join Samantha’s family?”
“Not yet…” I say, my cryptic words losing value to all but Samantha, who looked down in pain again.
After a while when the soldiers got them food and after this monsters devoured them…
“So, what’s up?” I say, looking at a large piece of cigar that Seman would very much like.
The cigar like its box full of the sa stuff, was found in the secret compartnt in the kitchen with many other valuable stuff. Sohow nobody questioned , not even Oppet.
Though on his point, I figured he didn’t want to know much more than he needed to… good man.
“It’s a huge problem, Henry.” Arthur said, “We need your imdiate help!”
“And you just received it,” I smile and calm them with a gesture, “That’s a joke, simr down and tell what happened.”
Elisabeth wiped her mouth where there was a bit of honey stuck at the corner.
“My father’s in trouble!”
“Again? What happened, did soone try to assassinate him again?” I joked, but to my surprise, Elisabeth actually nodded.
“Yes, there was an attempt on his life four nights ago.” Elisabeth said, her voice cracking at the pitiful fate of her father.
“Oh…” I wonder for a mont before getting into a prayer position, “I pray that his soul finds nirvana, heaven or whatever he’s supposed to find… an.”
“Hen- Henry”
“Hm?”
“My father’s still alive.” Elisabeth said, wondering what went through her crush’s mind, “The attempt on him failed.”
“Oh… well, that’s unfortunate.” It was at this mont that I knew… I fucked up.
“Wh- What! Do you an by that Henry?” Elisabeth stood up, tears welling up in her eyes, “Why is it unfortunate?”
“I- I ant that, your father had survived yes, but that pitiful man must have gotten injured in the process right? So instead of living in pain and misery, I believe it is good to just die in one shot… no pain, die sane.” I muff up a ridiculous thought.
Arthur, Samantha and Wilson looked at like ‘Really?’. But Elisabeth, the one it was ant for, sohow in her inaccurate and innocent mind, took it as a good thing.
“Thank you,” She smiled, “For telling to stay strong.”
“…I don’t know how you got to tha- I an yes… that’s what I ant.” I say and find Oppet beside , holding onto a cup for so ti.
“There you are; I was waiting decades.” I take the cup from the absentminded man and sip it, “It’s warm enough, you can go.”
“…”
“Oppet, you listening.”
“Ah- Ahh! Yes, yes sir.” Oppet gave a short but sharp look of disbelief, probably heard what I said before, but no matter, “Captain Klein went back to camp, what do you suggest we do, sir?”
It was his subtle way to say, ‘Please get your ass up’.
“Okay, let’s go. We’ll continue this talk after we are all rested.” I turn around to leave but Elisabeth stops .
“Henry! The situation with my father is-”
“Is serious, I understand.” I interrupt, “But the worst has already passed so why don’t you take so ti for yourself. It wouldn’t do good if you aren’t in good shape to et the crisis ahead.”
Elisabeth thought a mont before nodding, finding Henry’s suggestion helpful, “Alright, I’ll do as you say.”
“Perfect, when we get to camp, I’ll bring out all the chicken.”
“It’s fine.” Arthur said, “We’re famished.”
“Who says it’s for you.”
“…”
…
After getting to camp, I left Arthur and the others to a separate camp and go towards Klein. The guy was relaxed and chilling in his bed.
“Captain Klein, mind if I enter?”
Klein opened his eyes and turned to . For a second, I saw annoyance in those eyes, “Co in. We have sothings to talk about.”
“Indeed, we do.” I enter and sit before the desk, “For starters, do you know we have special guests?”
“Yes, I do.” Klein said as he sits down, “I also know they were the cause of diversion for your planned attack.”
“They were… But it went good enough and nobody got hurt.”
“Except the bandits.”
“Except the bandits.” I nod, “But with this, I rest my hat.”
“Hat?”
“The responsibility, power… captain-hood, you know, the temporary change of leadership.” I tell him as Klein nodded.
“Yes, I understand… but I don’t think your responsibility is over just yet.” Klein’s eyes turned crescent.”
“Hmm?” My brows elevate and I frown, “Did sothing go wrong at the commander’s side?”
Klein shook his head, “On the contrary, it went great. The bandit king fought, he lost, got captured and we won with acceptable losses.”
“But…”
“But… the commander got so information that isn’t founded nicely. Sothing that would extend the fight a bit longer.”
“Hah” I lay down on the chair, “Man… and here I thought, I would go kiss ho after this.”
“If you think this is long, you won’t like when a real war cos.” Klein said, thinking distantly, “The great number of causalities, lowering rations, equipnt’s, no change on the war without even a hopeful date… it’s simply suffering… long, unending suffering.”
I quietly listen to the man, not daring to tell him that a war would co closer than anyone thought.
“So what is it?”
“I don’t know.” Klein’s frown was evident, “The commander found the information too critical to send it. His only words were to co back and report.”
“So we are going back?” I ask, “To Whitedon.”
“Temporarily yes,” Klein leaned back, “I don’t know what the commander has in store for you, but I suggest you don’t get comfortable.”
“What about Samantha and the rest?”
“What do they want exactly?” Klein asked, “I hear they want to go visit soone.”
“Yes, they want to go et Viscount Haiel Harley, who had an accident so ti ago.”
“What happened?”
“Just an assassination attempt.”
“Just?”
“Yeah… the guy already had one or two before.” I shrug it off, “Don’t worry, he’s still kicking.”
