"I understand what you’re talking about, but the elents are still a thing, Aurea."
I have just finished the explanation of my reasoning to Lovelace, but she isn’t very convinced about it.
"First, when you look at the mana core of a person, it has the colors of so elents, and those elents end up being the ones that the person has more affinity with."
"Well, I suppose so... no, you’re right. That indeed happens. But maybe that’s just the way magic is coded."
"Yeah, but then there are the elental beings, like dragons and myself. I’m a being of pure Dark Elent that just happens to assu a human form."
"But what is your true form, Lovelace? Is it the human form? Or the scorpion? Or another form? What is your true self?"
"..."
"What does it even an to be an elental being, Lovelace?"
"I... I don’t know."
"So you admit that the expression doesn’t make sense."
"No, that’s not it. I know that it ans sothing. I just don’t know what that sothing is. I can feel the deepness of the resonance between my being and the elent. I can feel it burning inside of , the way it guides my being."
"You can feel it?"
"Yes. Can’t you feel the lightning elent inside or around you?"
"Not really..."
"Hm... I’ve never asked other people about it before. Could it be that other people can’t feel their elents?"
"Most people don’t feel elents directly, and I’m pretty sure I can’t."
"Then maybe that’s one aning of being an elental creature. It’s like I’m attuned to the Dark elent and its energies. I can feel it inside and all around ."
Lovelace stops as if a sudden realization has co to her mind.
"And there’s the hunger. The insatiable hunger from before, the one I can only quell, even today, because of the mana you feed . Because one of the aspects of destruction is consumption."
"So the elent of an elental being also impacts its behavior?"
"I believe so, yes."
"Hm..."
I put my hand on my chin, thinking about what she said.
The theory of elents as being re abstract concepts for the coding of magic works if we only consider the human world.
When we factor in elental beings, a contradiction is inserted. It becos harder to deny concrete existence to them with that argunt.
Especially because, to those people, it would be akin to denying their very being.
"This feels like a wave-particle situation."
"Wave-particle situation?"
"Yes. You’ve watched so of the physics videos on my mory, right? I was very fond of so youtube videos explaining quantum chanics."
"Oh, right. The thing about light behaving as a wave or as a particle depending on the asuring instrunt?"
"Exactly. Are elents an abstract concept for the coding or magic, or are they concrete things? Yesn’t."
"Well, if thinking about magic in terms of Earth’s physics makes it easier for you to co up with those amazing new ideas like spatial magic, I’m all for it."
"Hehehe. I’m a genius, I know."
"Yes, you are, but please don’t believe too much in that."
Ahhhh, Lovelace, I love you. Please never cease to be yourself.
We stay like that, just looking at each other and smiling, for so ti. Sadly, we are soon interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Good morning, you two. Already working this early?"
Yeah, the sun rose just a few minutes ago, and we are already at my studio in my mothers’ mansion.
"Yes... I wanted to show Lovelace so of the conclusions of my research."
"But you can’t work properly without having breakfast first, can you? Co, I prepared pancakes today."
"Yay, pancakes!"
:::
A few monts later, we are at the dining room, and Levinna has joined us.
"Tell one thing, Aurea. How do you plan to go to the Barrens, find Yaci’s tribe, and co back before the end of the sumr break?"
"Hehehe. I was expecting you to ask that question. Look at this."
I open a small gate in the air that leads to a spot right at the side of her plate, then I put my hand through the gate and snatch a bit of her pancake before pulling the hand back. Then I eat the bit.
"Why is your pancake more delicious than mine? Oh, it’s because I stole it."
Everyone knows that stolen food tastes better, after all.
Lily and Levy are with expressions of shock on their faces, and even Lovelace is a bit troubled by the display, even though I’ve explained the concept to her earlier.
"This is a little thing I nad ’Spatial Magic.’"
"This is amazing, Aurea!"
"I never imagined that sothing like that could be possible!"
"You explained the theory to earlier, but seeing it in action is another thing altogether."
Heheheheh. Yes, praise more.
"But... how? What elent are you using?"
"This magic can’t be made by using elents, Mom Levy. It follows a completely distinct logic that I can explain to you later. It isn’t all-powerful, though. But what matters at the present is that I can go directly to the exact location of Yaci with just a step."
"You can make it so big that a person can travel through it?"
"Yes. I haven’t tested the upper limit yet, though. So I don’t know how many people I could safely transport with one of those."
"This can revolutionize warfare. With this you could deploy platoons behind enemy lines and keep a steady supply line and also a safe escape route."
"Exactly, Mom Lily. It will be our trump card in the upcoming war, so it should be our best-kept secret."
"Of course!"
I have two years before graduating, and the feeling shared by both the king and my mother is that the uprising of the Blessed faction will begin around that ti.
That ans two years to train our soldiers in the systemless magic. Including the beastkin.
I’m so eager to begin that training...
