The air between them crackled with unspoken words and electric tension. Bai Mo’s cheeks were flushed crimson. Yet, despite the heat radiating from his face, his gaze remained steady as he locked eyes with Xu Zeng.

In response, Xu Zeng’s heart pounded against his chest, matching the rapid rhythm of Bai Mo’s own heartbeat. His own cheeks tinged with a faint blush as he returned the intense stare.

The warmth of Bai Mo’s hand clasping his own on the table sent shivers down his spine, a sensation he couldn’t quite decipher but found undeniably comforting.

Their closeness defied social norms, but Bai Mo’s disregard for convention, even as a "respectable" master of an entire household, only fueled Xu Zeng’s own boldness.

After all, it wasn’t just Bai Mo who was reaching out; they were holding each other, bound by an invisible thread of mutual attraction. Because, Xu Zeng was also attracted to this ger...

For Bai Mo, this infatuation surpassed anything he had ever experienced, eclipsing even the faintest mories of his previous engagent with Kang Han.

He had even kissed Kang Han at the unreasonable man’s insistence even though it wasn’t sothing that was "respectable" and proper for a ger, especially one of his social standing. Even then, his heart hadn’t raced like it was in this mont.

The thrill of their forbidden connection sent his pulse racing, the rush of emotion threatening to overwhelm him. It was a sensation similar to facing the wild boars in Nanshan Forest, yet infinitely more intoxicating.

He yearned for Xu Zeng’s gaze to pierce through him, to penetrate his soul and claim him as his own. In that shared mont of eye contact, Bai Mo felt a sense of belonging he had never known before, as if Xu Zeng’s eyes held the promise of a future they could build together.

anwhile, Xu Zeng struggled to maintain his composure, resisting the urge to let his eyes wander to Bai Mo’s enticing lips. He had always been drawn to kisses, their sweetness leaving an unforgettable imprint on his mory.

What would this fox taste like? He wanted to know more than anything else, still, he needed to clear so things up between them before he would allow himself such a delicacy.

"I’m not a fox demon beast," Xu Zeng uttered the words a whispered warning tinged with a hint of desperation. It was a plea for understanding, a plea for Bai Mo to see him without any pretenses.

Bai Mo nodded in acknowledgnt, his expression softening. He had heard Xu Zeng’s declaration before, yet he was still confused. But regardless of labels or identities, Bai Mo was determined to stand by Xu Zeng’s side, to support him in whatever form their relationship took.

He didn’t know what this would an in the long run. Either way, even if Xu Zeng was a cow, Bai Mo was willing to marry!

As Xu Zeng’s smile grew more carefree, it seed to reflect the acceptance he felt from Bai Mo. This level of understanding was rare for Xu Zeng.

He felt it from his brother the first ti they t—although they’d only t a handful of tis. And then he felt it after with the people closest to Xu Feng after his passing.

Yet, as Xu Zeng found himself drifting down a path tinged with sadness and loneliness, he made a conscious effort to steer his thoughts back to the present, focusing on the flushed fox before him—Bai Mo.

He couldn’t help but wonder if there were limits to Bai Mo’s acceptance.

"Even as an ugly ger, will you accept ?" Xu Zeng’s question hung in the air, tinged with a hint of self doubt.

Bai Mo’s brows furrowed in annoyance at the self deprecating statent. "Ugly? OH SO UGLY, YOU ARE!" he retorted, his tone sharp but laced with an underlying concern.

Bai Mo recognized Xu Zeng’s insecurities, yet he couldn’t comprehend why the other ger would speak ill of himself so freely. Xu Feng would never let him speak of himself like this.

Without hesitation, Bai Mo reached over and pinched Xu Zeng’s cheek in frustration. Xu Zeng didn’t flinch at the touch, his smile returning despite the small physical discomfort.

But there was more weighing on Xu Zeng’s mind, another confession waiting to be uttered. "I have feelings for another," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "They do not feel the sa way about ."

As Bai Mo’s expression cycled through a range of emotions—sadness, confusion, anger—Xu Zeng’s heart ached. He hadn’t intended to cause Bai Mo distress, but he couldn’t keep his feelings hidden if he were to take this offer seriously.

Finally, he was angry, furious even. At the very least, this person wasn’t Midwife Lee. If Xu Zeng had feelings for the other ger, Lee Hua, should have reciprocated imdiately.

"...If you can’t accept this I understand. I only realized my feelings recently and I—"

"If you want, we will all marry like Xu Feng. For you, I don’t mind sharing," Bai Mo offered sternly, his gaze unwavering.

Xu Zeng froze, his mind reeling at the unexpected proposal.

Was that an option for Bai Mo? He followed human rules not demon beast laws, but he would share for Xu Zeng’s sake?

A small smile that didn’t reach his eyes, was all Xu Zeng could muster. "This person wants a single mate, but it can’t be ."

Bai Mo was confused. What should he say to win the other over? More importantly, how can he make the other smile brightly again?

Bai Mo leaned in closer to Xu Zeng, his voice barely above a whisper as he poured out his heart without abandon. "They are a fool to reject you. I won’t ever reject you. I’ll love you with all my heart. Everything that is mine will be yours, and in turn you can share all your pain with ."

The words seed to hang in the air, heavy with sincerity and a strange devotion. Bai Mo had never imagined himself being so forthright in matters of love, yet here he was, baring his soul to Xu Zeng without hesitation.
