Midwife Lee, Lee Hua, That sneaky ger!—whatever he wanted to call himself, that ger was not trustworthy in Bai Mo’s eyes. Of course, he was very biased.
Still, Midwife Lee was carefully targeting this dense man in front of him and the dense man turned ger likely didn’t even realize it!
The fact that they shared a courtyard only added to Bai Mo’s concerns. While no one had questioned Midwife Lee’s presence before, Bai Mo couldn’t ignore the potential problems that could arise from their living arrangents.
There weren’t enough servants in all of Nanshan to provide a suitable buffer between the two. Even if there were, like his brother, Xu Zeng preferred living in a courtyard with fewer servants.
Bai Mo looked around as if he could see past the walls of the small reception room. Other than Midwife Lee, Xiao An, Xiao Momo, and Xu Zeng, only four puppies lived here.
Even the puppies were just occasional visitors, who were smuggled into the courtyard in the evenings by the two half grown children.
"It’s not very appropriate to share a courtyard with Midwife Lee," Bai Mo stated firmly, his ears betraying his distress.
The ears had a life of their own, swaying frantically from side to side. It was like they were an antenna looking for the right signal in every direction, relentlessly.
Midwife Lee was allowed to stay here as a temporary support for Xu Zeng. But the midwife mostly spent ti with his children, which was good in a way.
Bai Mo took it upon himself to sort through all the servants in Nanshan Estate. His mind was working hard trying to find a face he trusted to serve Xu Zeng and NOT climb into his bed.
Who could that be?
All these faces, even the ones he didn’t know the nas of seed so respectful and well mannered when their master, Xu Feng, was here. Now that he was gone, would they be like Midwife Lee?
Would they throw themselves at this ticket to a higher standing and possibly a higher quality of life?
Bai Mo’s brows furrowed deeper and deeper as he looked back at this dense ger who seed lost in thought. At least he no longer had tears in his eyes.
"I think it’s best if I move into—" Bai Mo took the plunge, sending another proposal to Xu Zeng’s feet without even thinking about it.
He wasn’t thinking with his little fox, this ti, but still his judgnt seed to be clouded. All reason was failing this typically reasonable fox.
"My Xu Zeng." Xu Zeng repeated the other’s words while cutting in abruptly.
Bai Mo tilted his head to the side. Xu Zeng’s face twitched slightly. He’d seen a wild fox once as a child in the forest behind Sun Village.
The small and big streams both separated the rear of Sun Village from the forest lining. It was a relatively safe place where the villagers often frequented. The only safety concern was for the children, no one wanted a child to be swept away by the currents of the large stream.
The small stream was separated further by so bushes and provided a natural cover for the won of the village. The hidden area beca the place where won and children would bathe. The open area the spot for washing clothing and retrieving water.
As for the n and gers, they had to wash with caution in separate areas along the big stream. The ger’s area was further back and more secluded.
Xu Zeng was very self conscious and didn’t like to bathe when other gers would be around. Village gers often didn’t see other gers as viable spouses. It simply wasn’t done unless two families were determined to unite and had no other offspring of suitable age.
Still, Xu Zeng was ashad of his large body. He would bathe in the dead of night. It was the only ti he didn’t fear his stepmother verbally attacking him for laziness or so other little thing he had or hadn’t done.
One day, after stripping down to only his birthday suit, as$ bare to the world, he noticed another party staring at him intently. It luckily wasn’t a man with bad intentions.
Instead, it was a fox with a confused look on its face. The thing had likely co to get a sip of water from the nearby forest, and ran into a two legged beast bathing under the moon. Two legged beasts didn’t bathe under the moon, they did that in the sunlight.
The fox looked just like Bai Mo did as it tilted its head wondering what the two legged beast was doing so late at night.
Bai Mo could feel his face growing warr with each passing mont, his face might beco permanently red at this rate. He had done the processing.
The words had been processed.
He was obviously caught red handed. Red handed and red faced.
How to proceed? Shalessly?
"My Xu Zeng?" Xu Zeng repeated once again, this ti with a lilt at the end, questioning the ger in front of him.
It wasn’t a serious question though, and they both knew it. Xu Zeng was smiling lightly even as his face stayed mostly straight.
"My Xu—" He started to question again before the red faced fox in front of him rolled his eyes and cut in. Xu Zeng wasn’t the only one who could be rude!
Not just rude, Bai Mo could also be shaless! He learned from the best, the original shaless ger, the one and only Xu Feng!
"I’m going to move into Budding Courtyard. I believe it would be best if you weren’t alone with Midwife Lee."
"Because, I am ’your Xu Zeng’?" Xu Zeng teased once again, but also wanted to know the answer to this question.
Even if he was oblivious to matters of the heart, Bai Mo wasn’t leaving too much to the imagination.
Xu Zeng didn’t really want to be a part of Donghua society. He hadn’t thought of his age, paying to remain unmarried, or even eventually being married off against his will.
He was a demon beast of great bloodline. That was the mantra playing in his head over the last two months. Nothing other than his feelings for his lost brother and responsibility to his nephews mattered.
