Two days have passed, and the three hundred winners of the initial selection have erged; the others are disbanded and returned to their original units.
The remaining three hundred continue their training as Ling Chengyan rushes to the next selection site... In a week’s ti, she and Tian Kai traveled across two provinces, seven or eight cities, finally completing the first round of pre-selection.
Next is the second selection.
This ti, at most only one hundred people can be retained out of three hundred, and it’s possible that due to stringent selection criteria, more than 2/3 could be eliminated, and there are no limits.
In other words, the selection by Ling Chengyan and the others has no quota restrictions; the only thing considered is the ability of the candidates.
The schedule for the semi-finals is based on the order of the preliminary rounds.
Ling Chengyan returned to Bian City to participate in the semi-final selection, accompanied by Zhang Yuanhong and Tian Kai. By the semi-finals, at least those who could participate were soldiers of excellent grade or higher. One person sotis cannot make unbiased judgnts because, after all, everyone has different likes and dislikes.
The presence of the three giants of the district brigade made the atmosphere of the semi-finals even more intense.
Normally during competitions, judges would sit in the designated judging area to watch, finally selecting based on scores since most events have precise evaluation standards, such as ti or distance. This ti, after the martial arts competition started, everyone discovered that only Zhang Yuanhong was seated in the judging area. At the beginning of the competition, Ling Chengyan and Tian Kai moved close to the track (field) to observe the competition up close.
This approach by the two made the participants even more focused. With the judges so close, what’s observed is not rely speed and distance but whether movents are reasonable and even if there is potential to be tapped into. Considering these factors in the selection reference, it’s not just scores that dictate outcos. If compared to a soldier with nearly no potential or a soldier whose scores aren’t too outstanding but still have great potential and room for improvent, the latter is more likely to be chosen.
The first item is the usual four hundred-ter obstacle, including the three-step pile, trench, low wall, high board platform jump, balance beam, low stake net... Ling Chengyan kept her gaze tightly on the movents of each soldier, marking promising personnel on the list.
Tian Kai, on the other hand, doesn’t focus on actions; he focuses solely on the scores. He believes that whether the movents are qualified or not, as long as they are achieved and the speed is fast enough, they can break through and seize the winning initiative on the battlefield. Of course, running fast and occupying the ground ahead of the enemy is often a lifesaver on the battlefield as well.
Though they focus on different aspects and have different judging standards, the requirents are similarly high.
It goes without saying for Ling Chengyan, fad across the army as the ’Big Mother Tiger’; Tian Kai is also a king among the reconnaissance soldiers who have rited fa; both possess very high physical and combat skills levels, he is strict in self-disciplines, as well as nearly harsh towards others.
Zhao Xingyun ranked over thirty on the list to participate, drawing Ling Chengyan’s significant attention as she focused on him as he started.
During the preliminary rounds, so of Zhao Xingyun’s movents weren’t very good, affecting his four hundred-ter obstacle score, making his score not too outstanding.
This semi-final, Ling Chengyan paid particular attention to the few obstacles Zhao Xingyun had inadequately handled last ti and was pleased to see Zhao Xingyun’s progress, and not a small one at that.
For example, on the high board platform jump last ti, Zhao Xingyun hung by both arms for support, but his leg and foot coordination were inadequate, causing a delay in his movents; then during the low stake net crawl, Zhao Xingyun’s height made his body uncoordinated during the crawl, causing several tis his knees hit the ground and his butt too high... Errors like these, if on the battlefield, could easily enlarge exposure risks and make him a target for the enemy.
This ti around the high board platform jump, Zhao Xingyun significantly improved his movents, with both hands, legs, and feet coordinating much better, allowing him to smoothly pass through the high board platform jump with fluid movents and minimal delays.
Of course, in Ling Chengyan’s view, there were still so flaws, room for improvent, but at this mont, this performance sufficed.
A faint smile of satisfaction crossed Ling Chengyan’s face as her gaze shifted to the soldiers behind.
This ti, with fewer participants, the ti consud was also lessened, and in just over a day, not even a day and a half, the selection of the three hundred finished.
Ling Chengyan and Zhang Yuanhong, along with Tian Kai, held a eting for a discussion, finally listing 87 individuals from the Bian City selection, exactly 13 less than a hundred.
These 87 were handed over to Zhang Yuanhong for leading back to Eastern Province, while Ling Chengyan and Tian Kai continued rushing to the next city for the re-selection.
After another eight days of exhausting travel, the final batch of selected personnel arrived at the training base, beginning a month-long devilish elimination training.
The final number selected for further rounds was confird at 423 people, aning 77 spots were directly abandoned as no candidates t their standards.
1/7th of the slots were abandoned, showing just how rigorous their selection criteria were – ’strictest, with only stricter’.
No excess allowed.
At the training base, Ling Chengyan and Tian Kai took charge of training while Zhang Yuanhong handled thoughts and living. The three had distinct divisions of labor, yet compensated one another, forcing everyone to shed more than one layer of skin.
Every night, eager for bedti ant yearning never to rise again, but the next day, at the sound of the gathering call, they’d leap up swiftly, racing to the training field.
As for Zhang Yuanhong, he ensured every participant could eat sufficiently and well, guaranteeing the physical strength required for training. At the sa ti, utilizing every mont he could find, conducting education for each person. If Ling Chengyan were a traveler from future generations, she might know a term ’brainwashing’. Making every participant relinquish luck and laziness, driving eighteen spirits, expending twenty, thirty efforts to train for ultimate victory.
A remark from Zhang Yuanhong beca the most profound mory for these soldiers even ten or several decades later about military life: "On the battlefield, what’s most important? It’s living! If people die, all is over, and saying anything is useless!"
Tian Kai, too, had a phrase: "Now you curse ; if one day on the battlefield, many of you will thank , thank my strictness today. It’s my severity that trained you into better ability, preserving your little na."
Zhang Yuanhong scoffed, sneeringly, casting a sideways glance at Ling Chengyan mumbled, "’Sweat during peaceti, bleed less during warti.’ So simple a phrase made lengthy, foul, verbose..."
Ling Chengyan glanced at him once before turning to leave.
A month, thirty days and nights; it seems long yet swiftly fleeting as the final selection’s opening approaches.
