Ling Chengyan smiled, casually tossed her bag onto the front passenger seat, lowered her head slightly, and sat inside.

"Just two vehicles?" Ling Chengyan asked from the window.
Zhang Yuanhong and Tian Kai exchanged a glance and laughed in unison.
Ling Chengyan laughed too, waved her hand, stomped the accelerator with her foot, and the vehicle sped away. She lightly whistled: The car was great, much more comfortable than the truck or the old jeep she drove before.
After nearly eight hours of driving, Ling Chengyan arrived at the Bian City garrison base in Yu Province.
Upon getting out of the car and identifying herself, two young soldiers quickly ca out to greet her.
"Didn’t expect to see you again, now I’m calling you Captain Ling!" exclaid a man with thick eyebrows and big eyes, quite heroic, Ling Chengyan considered him an old acquaintance too, Liao Kai, whom she had once participated with in a basketball ga.
Behind him, a familiar-looking person was there, but Ling Chengyan couldn’t recall the na.
Liao Kai warmly shook hands with Ling Chengyan and introduced, "Zhao Xingyun, rember him?"
Ling Chengyan realized; upon ntioning the na, she recalled him as one of the basketball participants, nearly six feet two inches tall, a strong physique, and a main forward on their team.
After exchanging pleasantries, Liao Kai and Zhao Xingyun led Ling Chengyan to the guesthouse to check-in and then to the military dining hall for dinner.
While eating, Ling Chengyan learned the basic situation of the Yu Province applicants. Additionally, Liao Kai revealed Zhao Xingyun also signed up to participate in the selection competition.
"You ought to take care of him," Xue Kai joked, both serious and playful.
Ling Chengyan looked at Zhao Xingyun standing six feet two, smiled, and nodded, "I’ve seen Xingyun’s skills firsthand; barring accidents, I doubt he’ll need much of my care."
Her words were complinting, making Xue Kai and Zhao Chengyun smile.
Xue Kai added, "You know our province has Beishong Mountain, where locals have a martial arts tradition. Many good lads can be found there. During tomorrow’s selection, you’d better choose well, picking out several outstanding guys."
Ling Chengyan smiled and nodded, "To be honest, I’m still on my own, so having good potentials to select from, of course, the more, the rrier."
Talking and laughing, the simple working al ended in half an hour. Xue Kai and Zhao Chengyun suggested Ling Chengyan rest, but she insisted on checking the selection arena before returning to the guesthouse.
Without sleep all night, Ling Chengyan awoke to the reveille call. Quickly dressing and washing, she wore a light training outfit to the training ground, joining the troop for a run and workout. After running a few laps, she ward up and coincidentally t Xue Kai coming to inspect the morning exercise, leaving the troop to follow him to the dining hall for breakfast.
She had breakfast with around ten instructors and judges participating in the selection. Xue Kai didn’t specifically introduce Ling Chengyan’s role but simply ntioned her na and rank. After mutual recognition, they turned the conversation to the upcoming selection competition.
After breakfast, at eight o’clock, the selection officially began.
