Amidst the sowhat envious glances from those around, Su Li and Gao Qianyu followed Chen Cheng out.
Walking out of that suffocating room, Su Li couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
Even back in the room, Su Li had noticed that around this house, there were burly n with vigilant expressions walking around from ti to ti.
Once they followed Chen Cheng out, Su Li observed more closely that these n had bulging pockets, possibly hiding so formidable weapons.
It felt as if these people were treating them like criminals, keeping a close watch.
After all, smuggling is a black market industry; they were quite afraid that soone would suddenly turn against them and report them.
Having paid a deposit and being brought here ant that they certainly couldn’t back out halfway and had to follow the dark path all the way.
Not far from them, Chen Cheng, with his back to them, was whispering to his underlings, with several cigarette butts already scattered at his feet.
Gao Qianyu seed oblivious to her husband’s indifference. As soon as she stepped out, she went up ahead of Su Li and greeted Chen Cheng with a smile.
At the sight of Gao Qianyu, a brilliant light flickered in Chen Cheng’s eyes.
Such a gaze was nothing special to Gao Qianyu; quite ordinary, in fact. Being a charming-looking woman, Gao Qianyu was evidently used to such looks that she encountered every day. Perhaps she was even a bit smug about her seductive appeal at that mont.
Su Li slowly followed behind Gao Qianyu, her attention more focused on observing the surrounding terrain.
After a mont, she abandoned the idea of leaving directly.
This industry seed not to allow any unexpected incidents.
While she personally might not care, the Su Family still had to live in this place. Su Li wasn’t indifferent enough to implicate innocent people.
While she was intently observing the surroundings, Gao Qianyu started conversing with Chen Cheng, the interdiary.
With Gao Qianyu’s cousin acting as a mutual acquaintance, the topics between them quickly drew them closer.
In a short ti, they seed like old friends who had known each other for years.
Su Li shifted her gaze to focus on Chen Cheng. In her view, he seed a bit greasy, with a slick way of speaking.
n with original owner’s straightforward ntality instinctively disliked such types, though he might not understand why won were attracted to such slimy guys.
At the very least, his wife seed quite pleased.
Gao Qianyu was smiling broadly at Chen Cheng’s jokes, with her rosy, enchanting face making her even more beautiful, srizing Chen Cheng.
Su Li’s cold voice suddenly interjected, "Brother Chen, what’s going on?"
Su Li’s voice made the two of them instinctively retract their smiles.
Gao Qianyu stepped back a bit, standing next to Su Li.
The faint fragrance lingered around her nose, which vanished, making Chen Cheng’s face montarily gloomy, but he masked it swiftly, soon returning to calmness.
Su Li looked at Chen Cheng with a half-smile, making him thoroughly uncomfortable.
This damn man, did his nose get clogged with crap?
They’d been cooped up in that room for a full three days, living and eating in there, without ventilation or the chance to shower. One could imagine the stench.
Staying inside for so long, the nose might have adapted. Yet, once outside, it felt as if a numbed nose had been liberated.
Su Li almost choked on her own scent, let alone Gao Qianyu’s.
That Chen Cheng could still catch a whiff of fragrance from her, Su Li felt nothing but admiration...
A high talent, indeed.
Uncertain whether Gao Qianyu genuinely couldn’t discern Chen Cheng’s sleazy deanor. When Gao Qianyu stepped back, she took a deep breath...
Su Li almost doubted whether her nose was malfunctioning.
Could her own nose be the one that’s off?
She turned her head towards Gao Qianyu in confusion, only to make a regretful move, shifting her nose sideways and taking a sniff...
The sharp scent nearly knocked her out.
Comparable to a biochemical weapon, Gao Qianyu’s previously pretty facade, mixed with this stench, was no longer cute.
Pretending to move a few steps to the side casually, putting so distance between herself and Gao Qianyu, Su Li repeated her earlier question, puzzled, "Brother Chen?"
"Is there sothing you need from us as a couple?"
Su Li deliberately emphasized "as a couple," which notably annoyed Chen Cheng.
I see you as a brother, yet you aim for my wife?
This aptly sumd up their real situation in their previous life.
Although calling each other brothers, one might feel it was one-sided on the original owner’s part, but his genuine gratitude towards the other person was true.
At least, thanks to Chen Cheng, they received slightly better treatnt compared to others; they weren’t put right next to the toilet. For that, he was quite grateful.
If he’d known at the ti that the other person had eyed his wife from the very first glance, he would’ve readied a machete forty ters long.
Settling his thoughts, Chen Cheng took a drag on his cigarette, his deanor abruptly turning solemn, as he spoke mysteriously, "As fellow villagers, and with the brotherly relationship we share, I wouldn’t deceive you guys."
"To be honest, the situation about getting on the ship tonight doesn’t look good."
Gao Qianyu’s heart leapt anxiously at his words and imdiately inquired nervously, "Brother Chen, what’s that supposed to an? We can’t leave today, can we?"
Su Li noticed Chen Cheng subtly glance at her, then disguised a cough by making a fist and lightly clearing his throat beside his mouth.
Chen Cheng said, "The ship is setting sail as usual, but the actual circumstances might differ from what I ntioned to you before. The environnt could be particularly harsh, and there might be inspections en route, making it less safe than what I’d anticipated."
Upon hearing they weren’t forbidden from boarding, Gao Qianyu visibly relaxed.
Su Li expressionlessly asked back, "Brother Chen, then what do you an by this?"
In the original owner’s mory, he had already gone through such a mont once.
In the previous life, the other party said the sa thing, seemingly out of concern for them but actually intending to separate the couple.
Both were entirely led by him without a hint of suspicion.
Such tangled mories haunted the original owner for the remainder of his days.
He always wondered if they hadn’t separated at the start, would they have lived happily ever after, avoiding the subsequent unfortunate events?
But life is without ’ifs.’
Besides, their marriage was unstable like a castle in the air.
The jumping ’Light of Life’ was sothing elusive, never to be grasped tightly in the palm.
