The Fate Of The World Is In My Hands, But All I Want To Do Is Eat! Chapter 314: And I don’t think anyone’s life should be put a
"Do ’you’ believe protecting humans is of utmost importance?" Micheal asked her with a straight tone, telling her he had a straight face. "Even at the risk of putting your own life on the line? Do you think it’s worth it when they could end up turning their backs on you at the slightest chance just to save their own skin? Do you think... The lives of others are more important than yours?"
Alice lowered her head as she thought about this. Well, he wasn’t wrong. Humans were self-conceited. They were far worse than monsters and their souls could be darker than night.
But not all humans, right? There were so with a soul purer than white. And there were so whose smiles and happiness brought about goodness in the world.
Those people... those smiles and happiness, were what the heroes strived to protect.
But... Who was a hero after all?
Soone who puts others above themselves? Soone who fights for justice and freedom?
She brushed her hair behind her neck as she thought of this.
In her previous life, the thing she fought for wasn’t the safety of humanity. It wasn’t how to protect the weak or how to bring out justice and freedom.
In her previous life... If she rembered accurately... She wanted freedom for herself. Wanted to have a free heart that no longer wept for a loss.
And though she wanted the ones she cared about to live, she knew very well that she wished for death upon herself far above everything else.
With death, all her suffering would end.
And yet... They all revered her as a hero. The one who was going to save humanity. The last one, in fact. Since no one was there to see her final victory.
The ones who called her a hero, the ones who hoped for salvation from her, were all gone by the ti she achieved that feat.
And she, the hero, was left to utter lonesoness in the vast and desolate world filled with heaps upon heaps of corpses.
So... The question wasn’t ’who’ was a hero, but rather ’what’. What made up a hero?
Alice looked at Micheal and answered,
"I didn’t ask to be a hero."
"Neither did I." He said to her as if expecting those words from her after a mont of silence, with her rummaging through her thoughts.
"And I don’t think anyone’s life should be put above mine. My life is my priority, above others. It’s not cheap and I recently realized that." She also said, her fist clenching tightly. "But... With great power cos great responsibility, right?" She smirked, releasing her tightened fist. "And I don’t need to worry about risking my life for anyone because I’m hella strong. So, I’m confident that whatever cos at , I’ll be able to take them down. Whoever threatens the people I care about will go down with a punch, I assure you. So, hero or not, I’m not gonna let any innocent person die, not on my watch."
Micheal stared at her confident smirk. Her words were solid, and he could tell she ant it, but... Did she realize what her words truly ant?
Yes, she was powerful. The most powerful, but if she were to encounter a foe with the sa strength or even greater than hers, she would be forced to choose between keeping her life or saving the ones in her care.
She would definitely be conflicted when that ti cos, so if she doesn’t make up her mind now, which one is greater and even acts a little bit selfish, she may lose her life.
"I never asked to be a hero." Micheal repeated.
"Yeah, that’s what I just said." Alice said and he stared at her once more before laughing.
"Okay, let’s do it like this." He said, "Imagine a scenario where you need to save one person, and the ti fra is 0.01 seconds. You’re fast enough to rush to one direction in that situation, right?"
"Yeah, I guess so." She twisted her lips, wondering where he was getting at.
"Now, from where you’re standing, the distance between..."
"Wait, wait, hold on." Alice said, her hand pressed to her head. "I’m not great at maths, so can we skip the distance asurent part and just get to the point?"
He blinked his eyes in surprise and then laughed.
Alice blushed in embarrassnt.
"You don’t have to laugh. I an it. Just skip the asurent part and hit with the direct question."
"Yes, yes. My apologies." Micheal said and cleared his throat. "You have to save either Devon or Damian, each having a restraint collar on, so they’re basically ordinary civilians at that point, and they’re suspended, waiting to be released into a shark tank that could rip them to pieces in an instant; who would you save?"
"Can’t I save both of them?" Alice asked. "I an, I could make it work if I distort gravity and..."
"Yes, that could work but you’re in a zone where Gravity can’t be manipulated." Micheal ntioned and Alice clicked her tongue. He just made it difficult. "You can only rush towards one of them and the mont you make a move, the chains holding them are released. So, by the ti you run towards the first one, the other is already falling, and since the distance is so wide apart, by the ti you save the first one, the other has already beco shark feed. In this situation..." He leaned closer and asked with a voice as sharp and hard as steel. "... Who will you save?"
Alice twisted her lips and smacked them.
"Sorry I interrupted you earlier but how far is the distance between them and ?"
"Let’s save fifty feet."
"And how far away is the person controlling the chains?"
"Probably that sa distance." Micheal asked, wondering where she was getting at.
"Then, it’s settled." She pald her fist. "I threaten to kill the guy with the remote if he doesn’t stop his plans, and if he doesn’t give in to my threats and presses the button anyway, I’ll kill him so he can die alongside the both of them."
