"You’re sure it’s this way, right?" Caliste asked, with Fleur looking at the map that she had been given by one of the guards.

They were quite lucky to have gotten the quest inside the Elven Territory since it made it a lot easier for them to receive help... well, for Fleur to receive help; Caliste hadn’t received the sa welco at all.

"Yes. We just need to continue up this way, and we should arrive at the Heretics’ camp."

Right as she said that, distant voices echoed in the forest.

They were barely a whisper, and Caliste could not make sense of any of the words coming out of their mouths. However, he was able to get a glance at them as he swiftly got behind a tree, grabbing Fleur into his arms to make sure that they wouldn’t be spotted.

There were two of them. They both wore long black tunics that even went as far as to cover their faces because of the shadow created by their hoods.

’Mhm... they don’t seem to be anything special,’ Caliste noted in the back of his mind.

He could not feel anything "special" that could make them threats to him. He had imagined them to be much stronger than this. However, it seed the king and Aleia had tried to scare them from going alone.

’Why did the Academy even recomnd second-years for this?’

Caliste shook his head as he found it utterly pathetic.

"C-Can you let go...?" A whisper suddenly entered his mind as Fleur was still being held tightly in his arms. It was to the point where she had almost gotten difficulty breathing. "I-It hurts a little."

Caliste imdiately released her as she took a deep breath.

Fleur’s face was bright red. ’Ah... he doesn’t even think before hugging . H-Have we gotten that close already?’

Her thoughts were not even focused on the mission; she was more worried about how her relationship with Caliste was developing.

After all, she rembered vividly what had happened yesterday night when she visited the dungeons. She had thrown a little tantrum for no apparent reason. Ever since then, her mind had been stuck on that as she even imagined that Caliste might hate her because of it.

Still, she knew that it was no ti to ask about those things. But she couldn’t resist.

"C-Caliste... about yesterday..."

Fleur looked up and noticed that Caliste had already disappeared from her sight, making her frown. ’Huh?! Where did he go?’

But then, not even one second later, he had one body in each of his hands as he dragged them across the floor. They were the two heretics that they had just seen walk by.

"You were saying?" Caliste said with a smile.

"N-Nevermind..."

A few monts later, still inside the Elven Forest, two n who were tied up and beaten quite badly were slowly waking up from the hit they had received.

"H-Huh..." They both groaned, barely opening their eyes before quickly realizing that they had been tied up against a large tree that would never break.

"HELP! HELP! HELP!"

One of them imdiately tried to cry for help, but it was already far too late for that. Caliste had made sure that no one would be able to hear them, as he had created a mana bubble where no sound would be able to reach the outside of the said bubble.

Fleur had no idea where he had learned such a thing, but she was deeply impressed.

"You can keep shouting as much as you want. No one will be coming to help you," Caliste said with a sigh to the two pathetic individuals. "There is only one way for the two of you to co out of here unscathed. You tell what I want to know."

Caliste was not playing around. The look in his eyes was icy, and the confidence in his voice made it clear that he was not joking around in the slightest.

With every word he spoke, he only got more and more serious.

"Tell why you’re corrupting the Elven Forest."

Silence.

The two of them kept their mouths shut.

"Mhm... I love that answer."

Caliste lost his smile as he began kicking one of the n repeatedly without stopping.

After one minute, the man had begun coughing up blood; it was getting harder to breathe, and only then did Caliste stop.

"Do you have anything to say now?" Caliste asked the two of them with an evil smile.

"W-We are just following..." The man spat out a mouthful of blood. "...orders."

Caliste smirked. "And where can I find the one in charge?"

"B-Back in our camp..."

"And where is that exactly?"

This ti, they once again shut their mouths.

But then, right as Caliste raised his foot, the man imdiately spilled out everything he knew about it.

"I-It’s north from here. I-If you continue this way, you should arrive."

Caliste smiled as he gave Fleur a look.

Fleur imdiately looked at the map with a frown. "That’s not what’s written here. It says we need to continue down south."

Caliste started laughing like a madman, scaring even Fleur, who had never seen that side of him.

"You tried to lie to us, didn’t you?" Caliste nodded. "To be honest, I knew that this whole thing was pointless. I should have killed you from the very beginning."

"W-Wa—"

Before one of them could even utter a word, his head was cut off.

"Actually, I have one more question. Why do you think that the demons needed to eradicate humanity one hundred years ago?"

"Because we’re the superior race! There’s no point in coexisting with pitiful, weak humans. They should all submit to our strength! That’s how it should have always been!"

Caliste nodded before activating his [Demonic Authority]. There was sothing that he wanted to try on his prisoner, and he imdiately sensed a change in his attitude. He imdiately beca a lot more respectful.

"Y-You... are you a direct descendant of the Demon King?!" The man asked, his eyes widening. "I-I’m sorry... I was only following orders! I swear!"

"Don’t worry, I couldn’t care less about heretics. I didn’t even know you existed until earlier. However, I wanted to ask you a few questions about what you know about the past and everything that unfolded afterward..."

Fleur, who was standing beside Caliste, was surprised as she made sure to pay attention to everything that would be said next between Caliste and the heretics. She believed that it might be connected to his beliefs that were so much different from the rest of the world.

Things that only Caliste knew.
