Over there, Samuel Chalrs also learned from another person who rushed from the Security Bureau about Cassian Wolf’s operation against the Ghost Fog headquarters.
He wasn’t too surprised about the mastermind escaping.
After all, if the mastermind behind Ghost Fog is truly who he suspects, Cassian Wolf alone wouldn’t be able to capture him.
Thinking this, his eyes unconsciously drifted towards Scarlett Jennings’s direction.
Even though he wasn’t specifically focused on them, Scarlett Jennings and the girl nad Stella Gibson’s voices still reached his ears.
She knows too.
Recalling her earlier avoidance of him, Samuel Chalrs contemplated and decided to walk towards her.
"The Ghost Fog headquarters has been eradicated. The mastermind has escaped but won’t be a threat anyti soon."
Samuel Chalrs seldom explains things to people, and his voice was inevitably stiff. He paused, t Scarlett Jennings’s gaze, and softened his tone,
"You don’t need to worry about Ghost Fog scheming against anymore."
Upon hearing this, Scarlett Jennings finally raised her eyes and looked at him quietly,
"What are you trying to say?"
No need to worry about Ghost Fog plotting against him anymore, so she doesn’t have to stay entangled with him?
Facing her expression so subtle it was hard to discern any emotions, Samuel Chalrs thought for a mont and said,
"What I’m trying to say is, I am not without the ability to protect myself. As the Dragon Vein, I can preserve myself at any ti."
As he spoke, he removed the Vital Stone from around his neck as if to prove his point.
"I’ve ntioned before, this Vital Stone is half my heart. As long as it’s intact, I won’t co to harm."
Even if today he used all his Golden Light to dismantle the Divine Refining Array and fell into slumber, as long as this Vital Stone she holds is unhard, he can still co back with half a stone heart.
This was one of the reasons Samuel Chalrs left her with it alone.
Samuel Chalrs never feels the need to explain himself, but seeing Scarlett Jennings’s anger, he felt he should provide an explanation.
In his mories, she has always been rational and composed.
He believes she can understand.
Returning the Vital Stone to her, Samuel Chalrs looked at her, his voice deep and appealing,
"I’m unhard now, and this Vital Stone, I entrust it back to you for safekeeping."
This was sothing "he" gave her, he never intended to take it back and willingly entrust it to her.
Scarlett Jennings looked at the Vital Stone handed to her, her gaze swept over the black fine lines on his wrist, and then landed on his empty palm.
There was originally a mark there.
But now it’s completely gone.
Just like hers.
It had long disappeared.
Ultimately, Scarlett Jennings did not take the Vital Stone, her eyes drooping slightly, she only said,
"Since you say it’s so important, I should have returned it to its original owner long ago."
She said,
"Your half-heart, I don’t want it anymore."
Though her decision was made, at the mont of truly letting go, her heart still couldn’t help but ache, even her voice carried a faint, nearly imperceptible tremor.
Samuel Chalrs’s eyes trembled just like hers.
Samuel Chalrs believed he could calmly observe all, yet hearing her say "don’t want it anymore," his heart inexplicably felt unfamiliar pull.
"Why?"
Samuel Chalrs asked seriously after a mont of stunned silence.
Scarlett Jennings raised her gaze to et his, her eyes carrying emotions he couldn’t comprehend.
Just like he said, she has always been calm and steady, rational and clearheaded.
Upon understanding the actions of the Security Bureau and the Mystic Regulation Office, she knew Samuel Chalrs’s intentions.
She did understand him.
But understanding doesn’t an she can accept it.
She knew every word he said, every decision he made.
Yet the clearer the understanding, the more obvious what kind of existence she represents in his eyes.
In his eyes, she was no different from Dashiell or other insignificant people.
Because they’re insignificant, he leaves or disappears without needing to explain.
She was never part of his plans.
His actions weren’t wrong, just the person was wrong.
He is no longer the Samuel Chalrs she thought he was.
He had been reminding her all along, but she kept believing she could find the original him.
And facts proved, she was the one demanding too much...
"There’s no why."
Scarlett Jennings’s voice was very light,
"I just... don’t want to be left behind for no reason anymore."
From birth she had always been left behind.
Eighteen years without her parents, in the Garrison Family, she always felt like an outsider.
Finally, she had a master who cherished her.
But one day, she suddenly vanished too.
Even knowing the truth later, knowing her unavoidable circumstances, the confusion of being abandoned at that mont remains unforgettable.
She understands all their decisions, even if she were in their position, she would make the sa choices.
Yet understanding doesn’t an she won’t feel grievance.
No one is born understanding.
Being born understanding isn’t a reason for her to be compromised.
Therefore,
She doesn’t want it anymore.
...
Scarlett Jennings didn’t say anything further.
Everyone was busy on the sea, their conversation seemingly unnoticed.
The Black Mist on the sea dispersed, the sea breeze carrying the salty moisture drifted by, adding a sense of oppression to the ambiance.
At hearing her reason, Samuel Chalrs’s heart involuntarily tightened.
It wasn’t heartache, more like... heartache.
Perhaps, there was frustration too.
After a long while, he suddenly spoke again, asking her,
"What must be done for you to accept it again?"
He actually wanted to ask what must be done to keep her from being saddened.
He asked earnestly, and Scarlett Jennings looked at him earnestly too,
"If I say, I want to strike you with lightning?"
"Okay."
He replied without any hesitation.
Scarlett Jennings was taken aback for a mont, her eyes carrying an undefinable aning, after a while, she said,
"That’s what you said."
She didn’t care about the busy crowd not far away, she took out the last Thunder Talisman from her bag.
The Purple Thunder Talisman, though not as powerful as Heavenly Thunder, was sothing she discovered that could summon Purple Thunder with Golden Light for the first ti.
Without hesitation, she tossed the Thunder Talisman upward, looked at him, and, with both hands forming a mantra, began to chant slowly,
"Heavenly Thunder boom, Earthly Thunder dims..."
The Purple Thunder Talisman shone with spiritual light, and the sky began to gather dark clouds.
"Above are Six Armies, below are Six Forces."
People noticed the changes in the sky, followed the flow of spiritual energy, and saw Scarlett Jennings’s actions.
So wanted to step forward to stop her but were halted by Simon’s raised hand.
"Above is the supre command, behead thunder and lightning..."
The black clouds overhead crackled with lightning, Scarlett Jennings looked at Samuel Chalrs before her, seeing he was unwavering, her eyes flickered, she gritted her teeth, and softly uttered the final authoritative word,
"Boom."
This was the slowest spell she had ever chanted.
Yet, no matter how gentle the voice, the power of Purple Thunder did not diminish.
With a loud crack.
With her authoritative word, three Purple Thunders suddenly struck straight towards Samuel Chalrs’s direction overhead.
Soone gasped and tried to rush forward to intervene.
But in the next second, they only saw three Purple Thunders accurately strike the ground behind Samuel Chalrs and his left and right sides.
His figure was enveloped by Purple Thunder, but the lightning didn’t even graze the edges of his clothes.
Samuel Chalrs frowned slightly, looking at her.
Scarlett Jennings lightly curled her lips into a faint, almost invisible smile for him.
Look, she’s exhausted her last resort.
He still hasn’t co back.
She lost.
As she finally turned and left with Dashiell, she said,
"Samuel Chalrs, goodbye."
