Music Rec: Lonely by Noah Cyrus

Kyle nodded, "It ans that kissing her was not the real reason you didn’t have nightmares on the nights you kissed her."

"Pardon?" Ethan frowned. Kyle’s words didn’t sit well with him for so reason.

"This is it, Ethan. Previously, you noticed that whenever Shikera kissed you before sleeping, you didn’t have nightmares. But now that she’s not here and there’s no way for you to see her, you still sleep well without nightmares, right?" Kyle asked.

Ethan gave a small nod without sparing a word.

"Exactly! Then my theory is this, the kiss wasn’t the actual cure, it was Shikera herself. What do you do before sleeping these past few nights?"

"Nothing remarkable. I dig more into her whereabouts and then sleep when it’s ti,’ Ethan replied.

"How many hours do you sleep for?" Kyle questioned.

"Three. I have a lot to do so I have to get up as early as possible," Ethan answered reluctantly.

"What’s the exact ti you go to sleep and when you wake up?"

"12am to 3am."

"Then it ans you lie on your bed at exactly 12am and wait for sleep?"

"Yeah."

"What do you think of before sleeping? Like what occupies your thoughts?"

"Do I need to have a particular thought that occupies my mind?" Ethan asked back. As expected, Kyle’s questions were weird and seed stupid but if those questions would give him answers, he would entertain him without complaining.

Kyle nodded slowly, saying, "Want to guess? What if I say... Shikera? Do you think of her before sleeping?"

Ethan chuckled, "Isn’t that supposed to be obvious? Of course I think of her and run my mind over our discussions when we were together. She must have ntioned where she is now one ti or the other, so definitely...I think of her."

"Bingo!" Kyle rose to his feet, the serious expression on his face swapping out for a proud smile. "You think about Shikera so automatically and subconsciously, your mind relaxes and then you sleep."

"How is that possible?"

"Are you seriously asking that, Ethan?" Kyle could not help but burst out in laughter. "You find it easier to think kissing her dispels your nightmares but when it cos to this, you ask how is it possible?"

But Ethan didn’t find it funny and he didn’t hesitate in expressing his annoyance, "And what kind of doctor are you? Don’t get on my nerves Kyle, and explain your theory when I’m asking nicely."

"Chill, I will," Kyle said as he stopped laughing imdiately after Ethan’s threat. "Ethan, this is actually psychological. I don’t know how and why but your subconscious finds peace in her presence, and that’s understandable since you love her. That’s the main reason why her kiss dispels your nightmares. So the main point now is, kiss or not, you will be able to sleep well as long as you have Shikera in mind."

Kyle paused for a while to let his words sink, before rising up to his feet. "And that’s it. I’ll be on my way then," he said.

"There’s sothing else," Ethan stopped him, gesturing with his chin at the second living room where Mignon was.

"What’s that?" Kyle asked.

"She lost her mories from five years ago. Anything you can do about it?"

"Plenty, if I’m using my special skills. If it’s mild, then she should be able to regain them through hypnosis," Kyle replied.

"I will call you then." Ethan stood up to join Kyle as the two walked out of the living room, but instead of following the latter to the door, he stopped halfway and sat down in front of Mignon.

"Found anything tangible?" he asked, his voice showing how confident he was that she couldn’t have found anything.

"Nope," Mignon replied imdiately.

"Need my help?"

"With?"

"Regaining your mories."

Mignon looked up from the laptop, shock evident in her eyes.

"You can help regain my mories?!" she questioned.

"Not for free," Ethan stated.

Mignon chuckled, smiling like one who had just heard the biggest joke of the century.

"Not for free? What would you want in return that I’m capable of giving? No, wrong question, what is it that you don’t have? Except you’re playing a prank on ," she guessed.

"Do I look like I’m in the mood for that?" Ethan deadpanned, the aura he was exuding showing Mignon that the man before her was damn serious.

"But—Okay so, what is it that I have to give you in return?" she asked.

A small smile crossed Ethan’s lips when he heard Mignon’s partial agreent. He sat up and leaned forward while still maintaining a commanding posture.

"Tell where Shikera is," he demanded.

"Uh?!" Mignon asked, unable to hide her shock. She looked around the room to make sure she was the one Ethan was speaking to, before returning her face to him, "What did you just say?"

Instead of answering, Ethan sat back as the smile on his face brightened and extended.

"You just confird that you really do know where she is," he pointed out. If Mignon was oblivious to Shikera’s whereabouts, she would have been confused when he asked that question. But instead, she had been shocked and sowhat scared as if her secret was just discovered.

"I really do not understand what you are saying, Ethan. Why ask Kera’s whereabouts when I only just arrived yesterday?" Mignon asked, her words coming out in a rush as she attempted to cover her past mistake.

"Cool, another confirmation there. You only just arrived yesterday yet you know to call her na so casually, and with such familiarity? Kera instead of Shikera?"

At this point, Mignon knew she was caught, but she dared not tell Ethan Shikera’s whereabouts just like that.

"That just ca to like I’ve been saying it for a while. Who knows? I might have known her before I went missing," she said.

"Yeah," Ethan agreed, much to Mignon’s shock. He continued, "You went missing five years ago and as the only daughter of one of the world’s richest n, you weren’t found. It was like you completely dissapeared from the face of the earth and you know what? It’s the sa with Shikera now. It’s like she dissapeared from the face of the earth so it ans wherever you used to be is where she is now."

Mignon was speechless. She gave an high five to the absent Shikera for knowing just how smart her husband was.

"I...How did you know all this?" she asked. "Everything you have been saying are based on the tongue slips I made just now. Before sitting here, how did you guess that I know where Shikera is?"

Ethan answered, "I guessed. I must say I was almost fooled by your cock and bull’s story but there were still so irregularities. Let’s say...first of all, there was no reason for Leonard Alexander to lie about your identity, except he was protecting sothing else. And in the first place, he’s not a doctor you can et without an appointnt, and without a reason as well. You said you went for a check-up but he’s just a cardio surgeon and not even a neurosurgeon. At the hotel too—"

"It’s alright!" Mignon interjected, "I know and accept that I was stupid and that you caught but I won’t still tell you where Shikera is. I won’t regain my mories...if that’s the price."

Taking a deep breath in, Mignon rose to her feet and made to leave when she heard his voice. It was Ethan’s, quite alright, but this one was not as strong, determined and cold as usual. It was weak...and the words it said were unexpected as well.

"Please...Mignon," he pleaded.

"I can’t, Ethan. It’s...I promised Shikera that I won’t let anyone know—"

"I can’t bear it anymore...So please, just tell where is. I don’t fucking care why she’s hiding but I know if this continues for just one more day, I will go crazy for real..."

Mignon felt like she was between the devil and the blue sea, caught between the battle of emotions between two people. And she had no idea what to do.

"Ethan, i—" A loud thud from behind her caused Mignon to look back, her eyes widening from shock at the unbelievable sight.

Ethan...He was kneeling?!

"I have to see her as soon as possible, Mignon...I know you really have to keep your promise but she’s my breath—It takes all of my power to stay sane when I wake up each day and rember she’s nowhere near . What if she’s sick? What if she has an headache today? Isn’t today ice cream’s day? Is she taking too much or too less? Damnit! I fucking want to see her smile when I bring it ho for her!"

He paused, gritting his teeth before adding, "I hate it that I have no idea what she’s doing. If she’s wearing her hair up or letting it loose. I—"

"I’ll tell you," Mignon cut him off.
