The reason why Uncle Alastor had never bothered to fully address the Ashen Territories was two-fold, and understanding his perspective helped explain why the region remained largely untouched despite being within Creighton family territory.

First, his purification magic, while formidable, wasn't specialized enough to efficiently cleanse such a vast area of concentrated Deepdark saturation. Alastor was primarily a combat mage whose abilities focused on destruction and protection rather than large-scale environntal restoration. While he certainly possessed the raw power to purify the corrupted lands if he truly committed to the effort, it would require an enormous expenditure of ti and energy over potentially decades.

'He could do it,' I mused as our expedition team made final preparations for departure, 'but it would be like using a sword to perform surgery—technically possible, but far from the ideal tool for the job.'

The second reason was more pragmatic: Alastor simply hadn't deed it necessary. When he had finally confronted and killed the Arch Lich years ago, he had deliberately drawn the battle away from populated areas, ensuring that the lich's death occurred in relatively uninhabited wilderness. The land that beca saturated with released Deepdark energy wasn't strategically important—no major cities, trade routes, or agricultural regions were affected.

More importantly, Alastor had already addressed what he considered the real threats. The miasmic corruption that could have spread to populated areas had been carefully contained and purified. Since Deepdark energy was fundantally just another form of mana—dangerous in concentration but not inherently evil—he had concluded that the saturated wasteland posed no ongoing threat to his people.

'In his mind, it was a solved problem,' I realized. 'The dangerous lich was dead, the corruption was contained, and the remaining Deepdark saturation was just an unusual magical phenonon.'

What Alastor hadn't anticipated was that the concentrated Deepdark environnt would begin naturally producing necromantic materials of extraordinary quality. The region had essentially beco a self-sustaining source of rare magical components, but since the Northern continent had little use for such materials, their value had gone unrecognized.

'Until now,' I thought with satisfaction. 'What he saw as a contained magical anomaly, I see as an unprecedented opportunity.'

My primary objective in the Ashen Territories was specific and ambitious: the Zombie Crown. This Ancient-grade artifact possessed the unique power to elevate an undead creature to Zombie Royal status, with the potential for eventual advancent to nine-star Zombie King—a level of necromantic power that few had ever achieved.

'In this case, it will beco Kali's Tiara,' I planned, 'allowing her transformation into a Zombie Princess.'

The expedition team I had assembled was small but exceptionally capable. Myself, Rose, Reika, Kali, and Rachel—five Ascendant-rank individuals whose combined abilities could handle virtually any threat we might encounter in the Deepdark wastes.

'Five Ascendant-rankers,' I reflected as we departed Luminarc aboard a specialized transport vehicle designed for hostile environnt operations. 'There really isn't much that could threaten a group of this caliber.'

The journey to the Ashen Territories took the better part of a day, as we traveled through increasingly desolate terrain that showed the gradual effects of Deepdark saturation. What had once been fertile Northern continent wilderness slowly gave way to landscapes where normal vegetation struggled to survive, replaced by hardier plants that had adapted to the altered magical environnt.

As we neared our destination, the changes beca more dramatic. The sky took on a perpetual twilight quality, even during what should have been bright afternoon, as concentrated Deepdark energy in the atmosphere filtered and absorbed natural light. The air itself felt heavier, thick with magical energy that pressed against our senses like a tangible presence.

"The corruption is stronger than I expected," Rose observed, studying the transford landscape through our vehicle's reinforced windows. "The concentration of Deepdark energy here is remarkable."

"It's not actually corruption," I explained, rembering my studies of the region's history. "This land already had a naturally high concentration of Deepdark energy—that's part of why the Arch Lich chose it as his stronghold. His death simply released accumulated power, causing the existing saturation to intensify dramatically."

'Which explains why the effects were so localized,' I added ntally. 'The Deepdark energy didn't spread because it was being absorbed by land that was already attuned to it.'

As we crossed the boundary into the true Ashen Territories, I felt an unexpected sense of calm wash over . The oppressive atmosphere that was clearly affecting my companions actually felt... comfortable to . The concentrated Deepdark energy resonated with my own magical nature, providing a sense of harmony I rarely experienced in more balanced environnts.

'This reminds of the Well of Miasma,' I thought, recalling my previous encounter with concentrated negative energy. 'Though that was far worse—actively hostile and corrupting. This is just... concentrated.'

For soone who wielded Deepdark magic as one of my primary abilities, being in an environnt so thoroughly saturated with compatible energy was almost invigorating. I could feel my magical reserves responding to the ambient power, my channels operating more efficiently than usual.

Erebus, my lich companion, stirred within my consciousness as we entered the deeper regions of the territory. Through our ntal connection, I could sense sothing unprecedented happening—fragnts of mory that weren't his own beginning to surface.

'Master,' Erebus's voice echoed in my mind, carrying uncharacteristic uncertainty. 'This place... I rember this place, though I have never been here. The mories are not mine, yet they feel familiar.'

'That's because your skull ca from the Arch Lich,' I realized with growing excitent. 'Being in his forr territory is awakening remnant mories stored in the bone itself.'

The implications were staggering. If Erebus could access the Arch Lich's mories of this region, we might gain invaluable information about hidden treasures, dangerous areas, and the location of artifacts like the Zombie Crown.

'Can you access specific information?' I asked ntally. 'Locations of particular items or areas of interest?'

'The mories are fragntary,' Erebus replied, his ntal voice growing stronger as we traveled deeper into the territory. 'But yes, I sense... significant objects. Powerful artifacts hidden in places of particular Deepdark concentration.'

Rachel, anwhile, was having the opposite experience. As a wielder of Purelight magic and the future Saintess, the concentrated Deepdark environnt was actively hostile to her nature. I could see her growing discomfort as the oppressive energy pressed against her magical defenses.

"This is getting difficult," she admitted, her usual vibrant energy noticeably diminished. "The Deepdark saturation is interfering with my natural magical flow."

Without hesitation, Rachel activated one of her most powerful defensive techniques. Divine light blazed around her as she invoked a protective miracle, and I watched in fascination as intricate golden vine tattoos began appearing across her exposed skin—starting at her hands and wrists, then flowing up her arms and spreading across her neck and face in delicate, organic patterns.

The tattoos weren't just decorative—they pulsed with concentrated Purelight energy, creating a protective barrier that insulated her from the hostile environnt while allowing her to function normally. The effect was both practical and beautiful, the golden designs complenting her natural coloring perfectly.

"The tattoos suit you," I said with genuine admiration, noting how the flowing vine patterns enhanced rather than detracted from her natural beauty. "They look like they were always ant to be part of you."

Rachel's cheeks flushed slightly at the complint, the golden tattoos making her blush even more noticeable. "They're not permanent," she said with slight embarrassnt. "The Divine Miracle will fade once we leave this environnt."

"That's almost a sha," I replied honestly. "They're quite striking."

'Though probably not practical for her role as future Saintess,' I added ntally.

Kali, who had been studying the landscape with her characteristic analytical intensity, turned to address our group. "We're approaching the heart of the territory," she announced. "The Deepdark concentration ahead is beyond anything we've encountered so far."

'This is where the real expedition begins,' I thought, feeling anticipation build as we neared our ultimate destination. 'Whatever challenges await us in the deepest parts of the Ashen Territories, we're as prepared as we can possibly be.'

The Zombie Crown was out there sowhere, hidden in the depths of a magical wasteland that few had ever dared to explore. With Erebus's erging mories, my team's combined capabilities, and the enhanced protection my Aureate Blood provided, I was confident we could achieve our objectives.

'Ti to see what secrets the Arch Lich left behind,' I thought as our vehicle pressed deeper into the twilight realm of concentrated Deepdark energy.
