Bree’s eyes didn’t just pop out of her socket they almost fell out after she was done reading the information that Aileen and Yakov have collected regarding Duke Cilantro. No wonder, No wonder that man has been asking Briana for so much investnt all in the na of the orphanage, when she read about the corruption that was being done ever so subtly by the minister when the Dragon Queen started to lose her mind, she first thought that it was simply the Duke being greedy but if what Yakov found out was true then ——
" Are you sure that there is a chance that, Duke Cilantro is involved in the illegal trafficking of phoenix shifters’ blood?" Bree gripped the scroll tightly in her hands, as a raging fire started to bubble inside her. From the report she could see that instead of going after fully grown shifters Duke Balzac and Duke Cilantro went after their young ones, the adults were killed while their offspring were taken away, if what she read was correct... then how many phoenix shifters were unjustifiably killed all for the sake of so monetary benefits?
This information alone was enough to make Bree’s heart feel stifled with sothing. Inside her head, she could hear Saphira’s roars as she stretched out her claws and swept at her surface wanting to fly out and take care of those two bastards all at once.
" I am certain that sothing strange is going on your majesty, for neither Duke Cilantro nor Duke Balzac are people who shall be trusted, and the fact that they hid their relationship only makes the entire thing even more suspicious," if Duke Balzac and Duke Cilantro were not involved in so sort of illegal activities then why were they trying so hard to hide that they are related, it could be possible that Duke Cilantro wanted nothing to do with this relative of his after he was suspended off his title as well as his duties but ... Yakov has seen Duke Cilantro being extrely polite to Duke Balzac whenever they got together in an imperial banquet or sothing of the sort, if he really despised Duke Balzac then why bother talking or much less socialising with him?
" I won’t be surprised if they took charge of the situation when you weren’t in the proper mind to take care of their antics to do sothing like kidnapping the phoenix shifter’s children." Yakov further continued as he glanced at Bree sideways. " These few months Duke Cilantro have asked for a lot of funds by giving out several excuses, he might be greedy but being this greedy for money will get him under scrutiny, don’t you think that we need to make proper investigations regarding this?"
" You are right," Bree crumpled up the report and set it ablaze, she knew that if the Duke was involved with the dark forces then he would certainly have his spies planted all over the palace. Taking care of such reports was extrely important, she couldn’t give him an opportunity to slip past by her hands, " Once we arrive in his territory select a few loyal knights that you trust and then bring him to search for phoenix offsprings, I don’t believe that we wouldn’t be able to find anything if we look around carefully."
" As you wish your majesty." Yakov bowed slightly as he accepted Bree’s order, his gaze flickered to the burning report as the glow of the flas reflected in his eyes. Finally, the old Queen was back.
Harley looked at Yakov whose gaze was filled with admiration while looking at Bree, her grip on the spoon in her hand tightened as she gnashed her teeth in fury. Why? Why was he looking at her like that? That gaze should have belonged to her!
" Hey, Harley what are you doing?" The maids sitting beside Harley were stunned when they heard the loud clanking of a spoon against the bowl, as the stew splattered on their clothes. They all turned to look at where Harley was looking and when their gazes fell on the figures of the Dragon Queen and the first consort, comprehension dawned on them and they all rolled their eyes before picking up their bowls and getting away from Harley, who was so engrossed in her anger that she didn’t even hear a thing that they said.
" She really has gone mad hasn’t she?" said a maid as she placed the bowl in the washing tub and started cleaning the utensils. " Ever since the Dragon Queen regained her consciousness, Harley has gone crazier and crazier... I an look at her."
The maids all turned to glance at Harley who was still clattering the spoon in her bowl and clicked their tongues.
One of the maids wiped the bowls before putting them in a clean box and saying, " Did she really think that just because she was liked by the consorts for a little while, she could have beco the Queen?"
"Looking at those crazy jealous eyes, I can assure you that she still believes it," sneered one of the maids. " Just look at her, she is behaving that first consort is cheating on when it’s the other way round, really has no sha willing to beco a mistress and yet acting as proud as a peacock."
Her voice wasn’t light and Harley heard her words, she imdiately stopped staring at Yakov and then turned her head to look at the maids who were gossiping behind her. As soon as she turned her head and looked at the maids with that gloomy gaze of hers, they all stiffened —— it was like they were being watched by a poisonous snake hidden in the shadows, it was suffocating to even take a look at those eyes that were stormier than the thundering clouds.
"Let’s go, I feel like I am being watched by so monster," said the maid washing the dishes and imdiately stood up. " That girl it’s better to stay away from her as much as possible."
" Yes, let’s go... I don’t like being stared like that..."
" too.."
One by one they all left leaving Harley alone on the boulder she was sitting at.
