Chapter 849: Extras: Together_7

Tonger spoke of these events with disdain as she relayed them to Jiang Li, saying, “Those people really have no sha. They still talk about high-ranking officials. When Master Xue had no news, each and every one of them ca to persuade our young lady to give up. Now, they have the nerve to want to enter our doors, without even looking in the mirror to see what they look like.”

Jiang Li just shook her head and smiled without comnt. Actually, there were even more unpleasant things said, but Tonger did not tell Jiang Li. Those people believed that now Jiang Yuanbai was no longer the Grand Secretary and Jiang Li could no longer be considered a noble’s daughter, at most she had a cousin who was an official. But the Ye Family was originally of rchant origins. Besides, Jiang Li wasn’t a beauty capable of bringing nations to their knees. She would eventually be tired of by Jih Heng. There would always be opportunities to take advantage of.

“Are you not worried at all, Young Lady?” asked Tonger.

Jiang Li raised her eyebrows, “Worried about what? If he truly develops a change of heart, I can guard against it in every way possible but still fail to prevent it.” The events of Shen Yurong’s previous life taught her that the human heart is fickle; loving soone, you can sacrifice for them, but you cannot lose yourself. She surely couldn’t make herself miserable now over sothing that might happen in the future.

While they were talking, Xue Zhao pushed a wheelchair and entered from outside, prompting Tonger to exit the room.

“Sister,” Xue Zhao said as he looked at her, “you’re getting married tomorrow. Are you scared?”

Jiang Li replied, “What’s there to be afraid of?”

“It looks like you really do like him a lot,” Xue Zhao sighed.

Throughout the past month, Jiang Li had not seen Jih Heng. Speaking of which, Jih Heng, a man who acted without restraint and concerned himself with nothing, surprisingly adhered strictly to the custom of not seeing the bride before the wedding. When Xue Zhao asked Jih Heng why he was like this, his answer was unexpected; he said that it was customary, and what if defying the custom resulted in an unfortunate turn in their marital fate?

The fact that he was so concerned about this marriage allowed Xue Zhao to completely set his mind at ease. Actually, unlike Xue Huaiyuan and the mbers of the Ye Family, Xue Zhao was very confident in Jih Heng. He always felt that a man like Jih Heng, who was unfeeling and ruthless to outsiders, would cherish forever the person who beca his soft spot, ensuring that they would not be hurt. Precisely because there were so few he needed to protect, those whom he did protect were especially lucky, receiving all his love.

“Sister,” Xue Zhao earnestly said, “we will always be by your side, hoping you will be happy.”

“Good,” Jiang Li smiled at him, “I wonder when I’ll get to hear your good news.”

“Mine?” Xue Zhao was startled for a mont, then scratched his head and said, “You don’t need to worry about . Maybe in another ten or eight years.” Having said that, he didn’t wait to see Jiang Li’s reaction and quickly wheeled himself away.

Jiang Li shook her head helplessly.

On the day of the wedding, the weather was very fine; the sun amidst the autumn hues was golden yellow. Jiang Li sat in front of the mirror, looking at her reflection—a woman with gentle and touching features, her eyes like a babbling brook, brimming with happiness. Old Madam Ye stood behind her, gently combing her long, waterfall-like black hair into a bride’s hairstyle with a wooden comb. Jewelry ablaze, adorned with the Phoenix Crown and Cape, the bride applied her lip rouge, looking dazzlingly beautiful.

As Old Madam Ye watched, her eyes moistened, probably thinking of the early-departed Ye Zhenzhen, and she said, “Our Jiang Li has really grown up.”

Ye Rufeng poked his head in from outside and called out, “Grandmother, are you done yet? The wedding procession is about to arrive.”

Old Madam Ye quickly answered, called for the Wedding Matron to co in, and put the bridal veil on Jiang Li before leading her out.

Jiang Li was led by the arm, stumbling as she walked. The veil covered her view and she couldn’t see anything. She could only hear the boisterous noise outside and the laughter drawing closer. It seed many people surrounded her. The Wedding Matron led her to the doorway and let go of her hand. Jiang Li just stood there quietly, listening as the sound of gongs and drums beca clearer.

It was a grand, joyous, and unforgettable wedding procession. Although she couldn’t see, the sounds alone made her feel the liveliness. It was a wonder she had never experienced before.

She heard soone rein in a horse in front of her, soone approaching her. Jiang Li inexplicably tensed up, unable to hear the teasing laughter around her, only the sound of her own heartbeat—forceful, beat after beat, as if a mischievous little deer was rampaging inside, almost ready to leap out.

Jiang Li’s hands were damp with sweat. Just as she was feeling bewildered and trying her best to remain calm, suddenly, soone gently took her hand. His hand was long and warm, fitting perfectly as it enveloped her hand within his palm.

Then, the bridal veil was unexpectedly lifted, and she fell into a pair of beautiful phoenix eyes. Jiang Li looked at him in surprise—his unconventional act was done so naturally, elegantly and tenderly.

The beauty in red stood before her, the corners of his mouth holding a touching smile as he made a lifelong promise, saying, “Co with , my lady.”

And then, she followed him without a mont’s hesitation, her steps resolute.

“Good.”
