Here we are — the night that might be my last with my head still attached to my shoulders. I can only hope that the advice Veronica gave will actually prove useful. Yeah, in the end I sohow managed to make her co in ti, and as promised she told how to solve that riddle. And... damn it, it’s genuinely brilliant! How the hell didn’t I figure it out myself?!
Kimberly and I agreed to have dinner together and spend a few carefree hours until one o’clock in the morning — the ti when I’ll show up at John’s villa with Kimberly in tow. The plan is very simple: she’ll disguise herself under a long cloak, and I’ll tell John she’s a vampire looking for food, shelter, and above all protection from the Monster Slayers — all things he provides to those who work for him. At that point, once I’ve brought her before John, she’ll catch him by surprise and kill him.
It all sounds way too easy, yet she keeps telling not to worry — that neither against nor against Alex that night months ago did she really go all out, just so she wouldn’t reveal her ace in the hole. At this point, I’m genuinely curious to find out what it is.
And what better place to spend what might be my last al? Well, obviously — sitting side by side on a bench in Central Park, eating fast-food burgers and fries. Yeah, a real letdown — and here I’d planned to take her to Cordesol at. But she really wanted to try fast food at least once in her life, so it felt nice to indulge her.
The upside, though, is that inside a luxury restaurant there are tons of people, while here... just the occasional passerby.
Yeah, I said that since I’m about to beco a father I’d rein myself in with won and keep myself exclusively for the mother of my child, but... co on, we’ve both got one foot in the grave. If I really have to die, at least I’ll do it without the regret of never having fucked Kimberly. I’ve been trying for months, and yet she’s never given even the slightest sign of wanting to give in to . Apparently, her body is reserved only for the right person — but if she might not even have a body much longer... well, it’d be a waste if it got vaporized without ever being properly enjoyed, right?
And I imagine the sa goes for her. What’s the point of clinging to those stupid principles in a situation like this? There’s no pleasure in the world greater than sex, and if she really wants to die a virgin, then she’s far dumber than I thought!
«Believe it or not, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten this stuff in my life,» she says, voraciously chewing on her hamburger and washing it down with a fizzy drink. «You know, a Monster Slayer’s diet is insanely strict, and stuff like this isn’t allowed even on cheat days. Really sad, right? We risk our lives every day and we’re not even allowed to eat so junk once in a while.»
«To be honest, I don’t even rember the last ti I did either...» I reply, crunching on so fries. «I’ve always thought of it as food for broke people or those in a real hurry, and luckily I’ve never been either of those. And tasting it now, honestly, I don’t regret never coming here. This at tastes like plastic!»
«It’s not the at that’s terrible — you’re just used to the good life, my dear millionaire vampire,» she shoots back with a laugh.
«If you say so...»
Then I gently run my thumb across her cheek. She’s gotten a bit of mayonnaise on it, and I figure I’ll clean it off... then bring my finger to my mouth, licking the sauce away slowly. Funny thing is, considering we’ve known each other for months now, this is the most extre thing I’ve ever done with her. I never wanted to push too far — after all, I wasn’t in any rush. But let’s say ti isn’t exactly on my side now, so I have to go all in if I want to get my dick inside her before one o’clock. There are still a little over three hours left, so I’ve got all the ti I need to pull it off.
«Jace... you’re not trying to seduce , are you?» she murmurs. She half-closes her eyes and shoots an accusatory look, yet... she doesn’t seem annoyed at all.
Ti to hit the accelerator.
«Yeah,» I reply with a smirk.
«I’ll remind you that you’re about to beco a father. It’s not very nice to go around seducing other won while the mother of your child is probably already asleep by now,» she grumbles, still with that mock-scolding tone.
«And I’ll remind you that my kid might not even have a father when he’s born, and that’ll be your fault. I’ve got a thousand valid reasons to be pissed at you, but who knows — maybe you’ll manage to make it up to ...»
As I speak, I slide a hand along her thigh, but I yank it back the mont she slaps it away.
«Geez, Jace, you’ve always kept your hands to yourself until now... did your creepy impulses really have to wake up tonight of all nights?» she grumbles. This ti she’s definitely less playful than before.
First she makes it seem like she’s into it, then suddenly she goes back to playing the saint? I can’t stand her anymore...
«Who knows... maybe because you’re hot as fuck and these might be the last hours we ever spend together? Co on, in movies this is exactly the mont when the two leads fuck before the big finale!»
«Actually, they do it after the big finale,» she corrects . «Anyway... the night is still long. Who knows what might happen...»
«Yeah, I guess...» I murmur, disappointed.
Those words sound a lot like a sneaky way to stall. Fucking prude.
Better change the subject, or I’ll get even more irritated than I already am.
I stare straight into her eyes, dead serious.
«So, are you going to tell or not what this so-called secret weapon of yours is, the one you think will let you beat John and his goons?»
She gives a sideways look.
«And why are you so curious to know?»
«Isn’t it obvious? Once all hell breaks loose, his thugs will co after too, and I’m not just going to stand there and get slaughtered! To make it out alive, besides a miracle we’ll need so excellent teamwork... but how am I supposed to fight at your side if I don’t even know what to expect from you?»
«Yeah, actually, that makes sense...» Kimberly murmurs.
She returns my serious look with an even more serious one, then closes her eyes. And when she opens them again... her irises glow with a blazing red.
