Maxim shrugged and acted like he was fine, as carefree as he had always been. He put down his cup and changed the subject. "The garden looks really nice. I think I know where my mother got the inspiration for our garden back ho. There are so many similarities between this one and ours."
Emlyn couldn't believe Maxim would just change the subject like that. She gripped the man in the arm and asked him urgently. "Please tell you are not going to marry a woman you don't love for my sake! I cannot live with that knowledge."
Maxim looked down at his arm, which was being gripped by Emlyn. His heart ached for her.
