Capítulo 1188: Chapter 1187: Unwilling to Accept

Although she was getting on in years, her mind remained sharp. In this world, if you can stand your ground, you shouldn’t cower!

But if you knowingly face a stone with an egg, then you’re just being foolish!

One should bend when necessary and stretch when appropriate! Enduring montary grievances allows you to stand tall with pride in the future!

Moreover, for her beloved daughter, she would endure any hardship, even sacrificing her life!

Besides, it was just about staying in the courtyard and not going out. Daily, she lacked nothing in terms of food and clothing, with maids and servants attending to her, afraid of her being unhappy, chatting and joking to cheer her up.

Her daughter and son-in-law were even more considerate, keeping her company every day to make her happy.

As a country woman, how could she not be content with such enjoynt?

One shouldn’t be too greedy, or even the heavens won’t tolerate it.

Old Granny Zhang thought clearly and did not take it seriously. In the cold winters of previous years, didn’t she stay ho too? Back then, she would worry daily about the entire family’s food and drink.

And now, after just a few days of boredom, there was so liveliness to be seen again.

A few days later, the residence buzzed with activity. Although not many guests were invited, a small opera troupe was arranged. In the garden, a few pavilion halls by the water were tidied up as places for entertaining guests.

That Eighteen Scholars tree was placed in the waterside pavilion, along with many fresh flowers moved out from the greenhouse, attended by a servant skilled in caring for these plants.

Wang Yongzhu and Old Granny Zhang got ready early and went over to Lady Gao’s side. Lady Gao wasn’t too busy—a small flower-viewing gathering, with so many stewards and servants below, she had nothing to worry about.

The nu was set early; every matter had a dedicated steward. Lady Gao rely had to utter her wishes, and the staff below would take care of it.

Seeing the two arrived, after exchanging a few words, Lady Gao said to Old Granny Zhang, “Dear relative madam, later I’ll need the Eldest Brother’s wife to accompany to greet the guests up front, so she can et so relatives and elders. You’re no outsider; the small opera troupe in the garden is ready. It’s warm and spacious. Could you kindly help oversee it there, making sure the maids below don’t slack off?”

Old Granny Zhang, clear-minded as ever, saw through this. They were going to take her daughter upfront to socialize, and sending her to watch the opera was more convenient.

Since coming to the mansion, Lady Gao had done everything perfectly, and Old Granny Zhang was not soone who didn’t know her place. Lady Gao’s arrangent was beneficial for her daughter; why wouldn’t she agree?

She agreed straightforwardly, speaking plainly, “That’s good, thank you, madam! As a country woman, unfamiliar with the mansion’s rules, having a play to watch and wine to drink is enough. Madam, just have soone take there, even to an inconspicuous spot, so I can peacefully enjoy the play.”

This was essentially reassuring Lady Gao that as long as she wasn’t provoked, she wouldn’t cause trouble.

Lady Gao knew Old Granny Zhang was easygoing as long as no one pushed her too far. Now with reassurance, she felt more at ease.

Personally instructing a servant to attend to her carefully, ensuring she wasn’t disturbed.

Only after Old Granny Zhang left did Lady Gao take Wang Yongzhu’s hand and gently advise, “In a while, stay behind ; the families visiting today are easy to get along with and won’t trouble you! If anyone becos insolent, don’t hesitate to speak up. Our Duke’s Mansion isn’t a place just anyone can bully.”

These words made Wang Yongzhu blink, looking at Lady Gao.

Lady Gao smiled, about to say more, when soone outside reported the arrival of the Second Young Lady.

Lady Gao halted her words and asked for Lady Ruan to be invited in.

Lady Ruan entered, paused upon seeing Wang Yongzhu beside Lady Gao, lowered her eyes, greeted Lady Gao, and exchanged pleasantries with Wang Yongzhu.

Once seated, Lady Gao routinely inquired about Song Chongjun’s health, to which Lady Ruan softly replied, “Thank you, mother, for your concern. Second Master is still on dication. The Imperial Physician said illnesses co like a mountain, but leave like a thread, due to the cold weather, but he’ll gradually recover as it warms.”

Wang Yongzhu raised an eyebrow, wondering if this ant Song Chongjun would have to stay secluded for at least another month?

Lady Gao nodded as usual, indicating she understood, “If anything is needed, feel free to send soone to fetch it from .”

Lady Ruan rose to thank Lady Gao before sitting down again, without saying another word.

With Lady Ruan present, Lady Gao shifted the topic, “Since you’re all here, I’ll brief you altogether. The guests coming today are our family’s old acquaintances; the second lady has t them before, while the eldest lady has just returned and only t them last ti.”

“When the guests arrive, the eldest lady will follow , and I’ll introduce you. The second lady will go to the garden to watch over your younger sisters. They are still young, and as the eldest daughter is preparing for marriage, it’s not suitable for her to be too noticeable. You, as their sister-in-law, need to keep an eye on them, to prevent their mischief from making matters difficult.”

A trace of reluctance flickered in Lady Ruan’s downcast eyes. In the past, she would accompany Lady Gao to greet guests and showcase herself.

But now, Lady Gao only wanted to take her sister-in-law, while dispatching her to supervise a group of young girls.

Resentful as she was, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and nod in agreent.

Just then, soone outside announced the arrival of the Gao family, including the main lady of the Gao family and several young ladies, already at the door.

Lady Gao quickly stood, tidying herself, then glanced at Wang Yongzhu to ensure she was presentable, before nodding approvingly, signaling Wang Yongzhu to follow her to the second doorway to greet them.

Lady Ruan followed behind.

At the second doorway, the Gao Family’s Main Lady imdiately spotted Lady Gao and Wang Yongzhu beside her, a look of satisfaction montarily crossing her eyes.

Being inford of her household’s n’s discussions, she had also conveyed their opinions to Lady Gao through confidantes.

Lady Gao had previously sent word back, saying she wouldn’t list the child brought back under her na.

What made her change her mind recently? Looking at the situation, did sothing significant happen at the Duke Qiguo Residence, causing her sister-in-law to face a crisis?

As it is, if a woman cannot bear a child herself, fostering one would eventually feel no different than her own. At the start, letting those concubines have and keep the children, and raising them from birth saved a lot of trouble.

Nevertheless, coming to such realizations was good. Despite being older, fostering an attachnt was possible. As long as he marries a Gao family lady and they bear a Gao descendent, it would suffice.

Thinking thus, the Gao Family’s Main Lady couldn’t help but glance at the young girls behind her, her mind forming a plan.

She approached with a smile, exchanging greetings, and specifically had the young ladies behind her step forward to greet Wang Yongzhu.
