Chapter 440: Chapter 439: Ling Ye’s New Friend
“Nearly… 50,”
“The bodies! Bring all the bodies back.”
Dozens of headless or limbless, explosively mutilated corpses were piled up on the vacant ground of the football field.
The middle-aged man glared at the corpses and roared in anger, his companions around him not daring to speak. A mont later, he cald down, a trace of malice flashing in his eyes, “This at will feed us for a long ti.”
They didn’t waste a bit of food, showing not a trace of sympathy for their deceased companions; they looked at them with the ferocity of starving wolves.
“What about the dicine! Those bastards on the other side, they had the audacity to steal our drugs! We should devour them!” soone said with indignation.
“I, too, want to devour them, have wanted to since they broke into P city, such a huge pigsty,” the middle-aged man licked his lips and looked toward the direction of the hospital, “No rush, we’ll get our revenge in ti.”
…
After waking up, Su Mo took Lu Chen to see Ling Ye, bringing with him a large pile of snacks.
They were led by soldiers through a specially enclosed enclosure. Many won stood outside next to the fence, watching inside, occasionally shouting words of encouragent.
Seeing Su Mo, they were delighted, and without much ado, they clung to the fence and kept saying thank you.
It turned out that Admiral Rong Bai had opened the training ground to the won. They could visit their children at any ti, even if only through a layer of iron sh. Seeing their children being earnestly trained by tall and strong soldiers, their hearts filled with imnse gratitude.
In their eyes, Su Mo’s stature had reached an unprecedented height.
She was sowhat unaccustod to their enthusiasm, but she smiled nonetheless, greeting them with a smile and shouting in a clear voice, “We’ll take good care of them.”
“Sister Su!”
Ling Ye, who had been running around the building, heard Su Mo’s call and imdiately ran toward her. The soldier leading the run also stopped, having everyone rest in place and wait, and ca over to greet her.
Even though it had only been a day since their last eting, Ling Ye’s face broke into a bright smile.
He crashed into Su Mo’s arms, and she caught him in a full embrace.
His little head was sweaty on the forehead, a result of the long period of exercise.
Su Mo wiped his sweat and asked with a smile, “Did you sleep well last night?”
Ling Ye nodded vigorously, then turned and waved to a boy standing in the corner of the wall, calling, “Co here.”
The boy wearing a hat walked over slowly, leading a little girl, their chests still rising and falling from exertion.
Su Mo rembered him and the girl; they were the baker’s son and the little girl who had lost her loved ones.
“He’s my new friend, Xiao Ba,” Ling Ye introduced gravely to Su Mo.
Su Mo squatted down to be eye level with the three children and said with a smile, “Hello there.”
Li Ba dropped his gaze, silently moved the girl behind him, and gave a quiet greeting, looking proud yet humble.
Lu Chen’s gaze lingered on him for a mont before he took out a pile of snacks he had prepared and placed them at his feet, asking in a flat voice, “How’s the training been these past few days?”
Ling Ye eyed the snacks and after a pause said, “Their bodies aren’t in very good shape, we’ve only been doing the most basic running exercises, Brother Rong said we have to take it slow.”
Lu Chen lowered his gaze, “Take these things and distribute them among them, you’ll be in charge of each person’s snacks.”
He took Su Mo by the hand and stepped back a few steps, seemingly leaving everything for Ling Ye to decide on his own.
Ling Ye nodded seriously, “I will allocate them fairly to everyone.”
He looked up and signaled to the soldier beside him, then called all the children over.
Standing aside, Su Mo watched him pick through the pile of snacks and then hand them out to each child, curiously asking, “Why don’t you just have the soldiers distribute them directly?”
Lu Chen pinched her palm, “Watch closely.”
Su Mo focused on Ling Ye, noticing that the amount he gave to each person varied, such as to his newly made friend, Xiao Ba; he gave him three bags of big potato chips and also a can of milk, while confidently stating,
“Xiao Ba, you are the most serious and the most persistent, without any laziness, so this is what you deserve,” Ling Ye stuffed the items into Li Ba’s hands, and even patted his shoulder like a little adult.
The boy did not reject the offer and calmly accepted the reward from his superior, quietly taking his and his sister’s share before walking away.
Seeing his thod, Su Mo expressed her surprise, “He rembers every person’s training condition? Distributing the snacks based on effort is quite clever.”
The soldier beside explained spontaneously, “That boy called Li Ba, after every training session, he voluntarily does extra training; he’s a promising seed, with a lot of potential. Admiral Rong noticed him from the first day.”
Su looked at Li Ba feeding potato chips to the little girl and couldn’t help saying, “This calmness and composure is no wonder why Ling Ye beca friends with him.”
Lu Chen also showed so admiration, “Ling Ye is very smart.”
For those who received fewer snacks, Ling Ye would also offer consolation; not a single one of these children showed even the slightest resentnt towards him. Instead, there was more envy towards their comrades who got more snacks and a burning spirit of competition.
She knew how he could best inspire his peers’ potential; Su Mo admired that.
They were more like one entity.
Here, Ling Ye would receive better growth; after all, he was to beco the leader of these children soday.
After distributing the snacks, Ling Ye returned to Su Mo’s side, leaving a box of Oreos for her, “This box is for Sister Su.”
Su Mo accepted it and seeing the reluctance in his eyes, she teased, “Just one day, and you can’t bear to leave?”
Being with his own kind, the sense of belonging was undeniably strong, but Ling Ye felt an imnse reluctance to leave Su Mo too; his entire little face twisted together, and he moved his mouth, unsure of how to express himself.
“Alright, no need to be so conflicted,” Su Mo said bending down to ruffle his hair, “You’ll be coming here every day from now on, but you still have to co back for dinner.”
Ling Ye’s face, which had dimd a bit, imdiately lit up, and he responded very loudly, “Okay!”
“Then after you finish your snacks, keep up the good work,” Su Mo patted his shoulder and walked out alongside Lu Chen.
Ling Ye saw them off to the doorway, shouting loudly, “I’ll co back for dinner in the evening.”
Su Mo waved her hand and said to Lu Chen, “It really feels like sending a child off to school.”
Holding her hand, Lu Chen spoke softly, “Once their physical fitness improves, I will personally train them.”
“Good, then I’ll be waiting at ho for you all.”
Su Mo smiled happily, her eyes curving into crescents, causing Lu Chen to tighten his grip on her hand and pull out a faint smile, dazzlingly beautiful to her dazed eyes.
