Peizhi was left in a stuppor. But Fu Yung was not as she had just been thoroughly ignored by October and Lexus as if she was air. No, she felt that the couple was looking down on her like she was an insignificant person who deed no threat.
Deliberate or not, this was a resounding slap on her face.
Her pleasant and friendly smile stiffened until she was having a hard ti in keeping her expression from breaking. Her sharp eyes hidden behind her calm and gentle look as she gazed at Peizhi. Seeing him so surprised like this made her so irritated.
’Why is he being foolish right now? Just because of that sl*t calling you "Mister Peizhi," you were already reduced into that? Was that too much of a shock?!’
Fu Yung cursed Peizhi over and over of how useless and stupid he was as to be defeated completely by October and Lexus and had even lose face.
But Fu Yung never thought that she herself was stupid and that it never crossed her mind that she had also lost so face.
"Husband? Husband." Fu Yung called and shook Peizhi’s arms with worry and alarm in her voice. She then looked at the maids and butlers who did not do anything to stop October and Lexus from brazenly entering the mansion.
October and Lexus strode confidently into the mansion without much trouble with their hands intertwined.
"How nostalgic." October unconsciously muttered under her breath, eyes staring into nothing as if she was looking into sothing else.
It was just a slip of the tongue. Because of Lexus’ extraordinary attention he always gave on October, he had heard this whisper as loud and clear as day.
Lexus warmly smiled down at her before bringing her hand to his face and kissing the back of her hand.
At contact, October instantly felt the warmth and sincere affection Lexus had for her and travelled from her hand to her heart.
Yes, those were of the past. She could not completely disregard and forget her past where her good and bad mories were, in which where her mother existed. She had to live with that and face her current self while looking forward into the future.
’My future with this man before my eyes.’
After calming herself down with the help of Lexus, October then continued to traverse the hallways, passing rooms one after the other, as she recounted her mories.
Lexus knew that October was finding her mories on each walls and corners of the mansion. In this silence he kept, he followed her without letting go of her hand. Then all of a suddem, October opened her mouth to speak.
"My mother and I would play around the mansion. I would run in this hallways. I sotis even bump into so expensive ceramics and scuptures around the mansion. I’d get scared then, afraid of the harsh scolding from...him. Of course, my mother would protect ."
Lexus’ hand tightened. He noticed that October’s voice seed far yet near and started to crack.
He had never asked about her past, especially about her mother. He would not dare probe too much unless she would open up to him on her own accord. He’s just contented with how things are with him and October.
And now that October had finally talked about her past and about her mother, he would keep his mouth shut and would gladly listen to her.
"I...I’ve never been to an amusent park before with my--with him. Well, I don’t have any fond mories together with him. It was just and mother. Occassionally, I would sneak out to et with grandpa at the park near here and play with him."
October’s face was soft and had a small smile on her face. She did not expect that it had been so long since she had left this mansion. If not because of Lexus accompanying her, she might get herself lost in her mories.
So, she was thankful that his warmth, his presence, and him altogether was there to give her strength.
"We’re here. This was my room." October said as she opened the door. But then, soone ca close to the couple.
"Young miss, your things have already been moved out from this room. Currently, this has beca one of the guest rooms in the mansion." A man that seed to act as a butler said.
Lexus’ face instantly darkened as he had recognized this voice. With a scowl on his face, he looked at the man in clear distaste. "Who are you?"
Despite the intimidation that Lexus gave off onto the man, the butler only shuddered for a mont before collecting himself through gritted teeth, forcing a smile on his face.
"This one’s na is Liu Chen, the butler of this residence." He replied humbly at this with his professional (fake) smile on his face. At then, unconsciously, his eyes lowered to land on their hands. October’s hand was securely held by Lexus’ hand.
His heart made a jolt. It was as if he was pricked by a thousand needles and left his heart bleeding profusely until there’s no longer blood to bleed. That sight was really sting to his eyes. However, he was able to mask his emotions imdiately but not after Lexus noticed it.
Lexus harrumphed at this as he did not like the guy himself. Also, he had noticed the man taking quick glances at his wife with that infatuated look on his eyes.
It was irritating!
October probably did not notice the tension between the n or she just did not care at all. All she can think about was the nto she got from her mother before she passed away.
"Where are my things?" She asked with serenity in her whole being, with her back straight filled with profound confidence and majestic air. It was overbearing even but not enough to cause people suffocated.
Albeit a little surprised by the brilliance that October release from her being, Butler Liu had complicated feelings.
"Yes, of course young miss. Please follow ." He said respectfully while he gestured for them to follow him.
After quite so ti of walking, making turns left and right and passing doors one after the other, they had finally arrived at the only door of the furthest corner of the east wing of the mansion.
"Thanks." October did not look at Butler Liu, much to his disappoint. He was really expecting to lock eyes with her but all of her attention was not on him.
Lexus was, of course, gratified with this. A smug smile then graced his handso face as he looked at the silent glare of Butler Liu.
’Yes, you are just soone who pesters us. So why don’t you go scram for ?’
October opened the door. If she rembered it correctly, then this room was the store room.
She opened the door and entered it. She scanned her eyes around the unexpectedly spacious room.
Dust were thick on top of the items in the room. There were cobwebs everywhere and so dirty clothings draped to cover the items. There were also boxes littered everywhere and of different sizes.
"Cover your nose." Lexus said in worry while handing the handkerchief he always had with him to October. The place was dusty and so it was easy to get one’s nose to get irritated. And so, he has to prevent that from happening to his wife.
"You things, young miss, are placed in this corner."
’Tch. Why is this bastard still here? Scram already. Scram!" Lexus was clearly displeased. He had already shown his dislike toward the man and had directly said to leave them alone (through eyes) but the shaless butler was still sticking to his wife.
October did not say anything and went toward the section wherein her things were supposed to be placed. She had pulled along Lexus with her in the process because her hand was still firmly intwined with Lexus’. Though she was not really bothered with it.
Under Lexus’ watch, October had slowly made her way to her vanity table with it’s mirror was covered with a cloth. She let go of his hand and, as if she knew exactly where that gift was placed, pulled one of the drawers.
There, at the center of the clatter in the drawer, lay a black-colored box. It was unadorned and seed old.
She reached out and placed the box on her hand as relief washed over her. Honestly, she was quite worried that they would touch her things and worst steal her things.
"Great. I’ve found you, mom."
After hesitating for a mont if she should open it, she finally made up her mind to open the last and unopened present she received from her mother.
Slowly opening the lip of the box, October’s heart beat irratically in her chest. Inside lay a golden bracelet with a heart-shaped locket with an erald stone embedded at the center. The stone shone on her her. It has the sa color as her eyes which was also of the sa color as her mother’s.
October bit her lip and brows furrowed tightly. Sadness enveloped her whole being as a deep pang was felt at the deepest part of her heart.
"Mom..."
Suddenly, a warm embrace engulfed the frail back of October just as she was about to plunge into the darkness.
"It’s okay. I’m here."
Butler Liu looked at the couple’s intimate figures. A strong jolt of his heart and then squeezed tightly was felt. His eyes reflected that beautiful figure. He was hurting so much that he did not even notice that his hands were already clenched into fists at his back.
’I wished I was there when you needed most. I...have let you down, Lanna.’
But this was fine too. Seeing that his young miss was happy, then he’d be happy too. Hate to admit but he had completely lost because the man that was standing next to the woman he loved was not him.
Even though he had wished in all of the falling stars he’d see, he knew that the only wish he’d make will never co true.
Butler Liu lowered his eyes and bitterly mocked himself.
