Skyla’s mind was being fried with neural activity. He had immobilised her and his words were nothing but wooden splinters that were piercing her heart. All she wanted was to have her father’s company back and be done with this fiend.

Her scalp burnt as he kept yanking her hair and with one final tug which left a lock of those fiery tresses in his callous hand, Doran let her go and shifted back.

Her bag had fallen on the car floor. Her hair were dishevelled and the pin hung loosely in them. Half of her body had been bruised. The tears of pain and humiliation singed the back of her eyes as she hid her face in her burnt hand.

"Get out," he derisively commanded, not caring in the slightest about her condition. She couldn’t believe her ears after what he had done he was going to throw her in the middle of nowhere.

When Skyla didn’t budge and recoiled into herself watching him with her fearful eyes. Doran threw his door open and barged out of his car. Bulldozing his way towards the other side, he yanked open her door and dragged her out from her arm.

"What are you doing? Let go of ." Skyla tried to jerk her arm free of him.

"You are so clever now that you can go behind my back and feed false information. Let’s see you get ho on your own." He aggressively pushed her back and Skyla landed on her hips. A wave of pain rippled through her as fear cramped all her muscles.

Was he really going to leave her here, without any money or her phone?

"No, it’s already nightti. Please, don’t do this Doran," she requested between sobs, tears had spilled out of her anguished eyes.

But he was beyond reasoning at this mont.

"And if you dare speak a word of this to anyone especially that masked freak. God helps you. I am going to give everyone such a story that no one will even think otherwise." With these threats, he walked away not even glancing at her and leaving her on the ground. Doran got back in the car and drove off in a flurry of rage.

"Dorann!" She scread behind him but it was of no use.

Lonely and broken.

Her mind refused to accept what had just happened to her.

Skyla collected herself and stood up from the ground. This was so kind of dirt road and she had never been in this part of the city. Her head frantically darted left and right, goosebumps rose on her body as the fear of the unknown crept up on her. He had taken her phone, her tablet and her bag. She couldn’t even call anyone for help.

The physical pain was forgotten but the emotional pain was drowning her, and yet she knew she couldn’t stay here for long she had to find a way out.

Trying to rember the way they had co Skyla dragged and willed herself to walk, tightly wrapping her arms around herself.

All her senses were on high alert, anything or anyone could be lurking in the shadows of the darkness. There was no moon today so the night was spreading its inky wings.

Her head swivelled at every small sound, the chirping of crickets echoed all around her as she took tentative fearful steps and continued her journey.

Soon her throat was parched and her clothes had beco sweaty, mosquitoes buzzed in her ears as she swatted them away.

Leaving behind that dirt road, Skyla reached the main road and now she needed to take a lift from so kind soul and avoid any perverts.

Afraid and lost she wiped away the tears from her now swollen cheek and tried to turn onto the main road from the dirt one. A car was fast approaching and she didn’t get back in ti seeing its headlights.

It screeched as the driver hit ergency brakes and Skyla’s heart jumped into her throat. The car slowed down but didn’t stop in ti as its side narrowly hit her leg, propelling her backwards on the road.

Soone in the car scread as it ca to a halt very close to Skyla, who was lying on the side of the road with an injured leg and bruised body. The impact had knocked her breath out and her life danced in front of her eyes.

People ca running out of the car, it was a man and a woman. They had these horrified looks on their faces, she had co out of nowhere, and they didn’t even know there was a dirt road.

"Maam! Are you alright?" The woman quickly squatted alongside her and took Skyla in her arms. She was still conscious but pain was blinding her and rendering her speechless.

"We need to take her to the hospital, we can’t waste any ti," the man fearfully spoke, seeing he had injured soone.

"Help , Gabe." Both of them lifted Skyla and laid her down in the backseat of their car. Won climbed in the back with Skyla so she could hold her.

"We are really sorry, we didn’t even see you until it was too late. Please, stay conscious," the woman begged, seeing how bruised her face and neck were. Not realising it was not from the accident but abuse from her husband.

"C—call Huria, m—my frie–nd," Skyla stamred trying to fight the excruciating pain while staying awake.

"Yes, yes give the number." The woman grabbed her phone, took the number from Skyla and placed the call.

Huria was horrified and the ground seed to have slipped from under her feet. She didn’t understand how sothing like that was possible.

"I am coming, Skyla. Hold on," she lanted and hurried out of her house to get to the hospital.

They rushed her to the nearest hospital and Skyla was quickly taken to the ergency as the couple explained what had happened. They stayed there until the doctors examined her.

Her injuries were many but not life-threatening, and the fact that she remained conscious throughout showed how resilient she was.

She had tears in her leg muscles, bruised elbows and arms, her neck had gotten stiff because of the jerk reaction from her fall and then there were injuries on her face and neck because of the assault from her husband.

Skyla didn’t want to press any charges but once Huria arrived and spoke to the couple she asked them to stay until she had personally spoken to her friend and would know the whole story.

Huria was finally permitted to see her friend, and with a dreading heart, she entered the ER, where they were keeping her.
