His words reassured her that he liked the gift so her heart settled.

"I am glad to hear that."

The short cape he wore had slightly shifted and she could see a small part of his torso. Her cheeks flad seeing it but she couldn’t snatch away her gaze, there was so kind of mark right on his lower ribs, but she wasn’t sure what it was.

Zyair made no effort to cover himself, today was the day she could do whatever she desired.

They returned to their hotel very late, tired and exhausted from the event. The next day was their departure to Angel City, so everyone decided to go to bed.

Lawrence wished them good night and headed to his room. Skyla and Zyair stood outside hers.

"Thank you for this opportunity of a lifeti Mr. Zyair. I learnt a lot today and thoroughly enjoyed myself too," she respectfully stated, holding the card to her door so she could enter.

Zyair was hesitant to hand over the gift he had bought for her.

"Miss Skyla," he finally called her out before she could enter, she paused and turned her head when he extracted a small silver rectangular box with a red ribbon tied to it from his pocket and extended it towards her.

"You like Kakashi, so I thought you would like this."

He watched her eyes go from curious to disbelief and she stared at him as if he was an alien or had probably grown a horn or two.

"For ?" she finally asked in perplexity her hand instinctively going to her chest. Doran had never bothered bringing her a gift, not on her birthdays, not on anniversaries, never. All he gifted her were the scars.

"Yes, it will make a content man if you will accept them."

There was this desperation in his voice that made her wonder why he cared for her this much. This man was beginning to crawl under her skin with his small thoughtful gestures.

Without thinking further she reached forward with her half-gloved hands and picked up the box from his palm.

With quivering fingers, she tugged at the ribbon and it beca unfurled in her hands. She lifted the lid to reveal a delicate hairpin.

At one side was a small figure of Kakashi holding cackling electricity which shimred because of the tiny gemstones that had been embedded in it, which Skyla was sure were diamonds. The whole length of the hairpin had these eralds fitted in it as well which glistened because of the light that was refracted in them.

She watched in awe, unable to believe what she was seeing. Never had she laid her eyes on such a delicate and refined piece of jewellery which also featured her favourite ani character.

Tears of joy welled up in her eyes which she held back and tried to waggle her tongue so she could speak.

"I have never seen sothing this exquisite before," she murmured. ’Why did he buy such an expensive piece of jewellery for ?’ she wondered.

"Do you like it?" he asked in anticipation, ’I hope she keeps it,’ he thought.

"Yes, but I can’t accept this. It’s too..." she couldn’t complete her sentence when he cut her off. Nothing was expensive when it ca down to her.

"It’s not. Please, I am requesting you," and there was this hearty plea in his heavy masculine voice. She could not deny him. Her heart didn’t want to bring him even a sliver of disappointnt.

"Thank you, Sir. I will always cherish this gift," she finally took a peek towards him, he was watching her with such an amalgamation of emotions that she couldn’t hold his gaze and placed the lid back on the box.

"I am glad you accepted. Good night, Miss Skyla and thank you for being the best secretary ever. You have earned it." He didn’t want to put her more at unease so he took his leave.

Skyla watched him retreat until he disappeared into his room, leaving her slightly shocked. Clearly, she had not done anything extraordinary to earn such a gift from him. The simple lapel pin she had bought him had hardly cost her 90$ and here she was sure this was worth thousands.

Why would he lavishly spend so much money on a re secretary whom he had known for hardly two weeks?

Her boss was such an enigma, the more she tried to understand him and his actions, the less she unravelled and the more she was left confused.

She slowly entered her room and placed down all her stuff. Firstly she changed into comfortable clothes and washed her face. Standing in front of the mirror she brushed her hair to one side and carefully took the pin from the box and settled it in her hair. It sat so beautifully as if it belonged there. She couldn’t help but gush and stare at it in the mirror.

This was a priceless gift and it had co from her boss, the man she had begun to admire beyond words.

Carefully she removed the pin from her hair, although she wished to keep it in them forever now but she didn’t want to ruin it. Wrapping it back in the box she packed it away in her luggage.

Then she settled in bed with her tablet to work on her comic for a bit before sleeping. But her thoughts kept wandering to her boss and she decided to add this part from her real life to her comic.

The male lead brings a gift for the female lead and places it in her hair, declaring his love for her. This was going to be such a fulfilling scene, she knew it.

On the other side of her room’s wall, Zyair was also lying in bed holding the lapel pin she had given him, staring at it with a delicate stare. He swivelled it in his hands but he couldn’t stop staring at it.

The small gestures matter the most, they said. None of her gestures were small for him though, they magnified and made his heart unsettled in strange ways.

He placed the pin on his heart and grabbed his phone. Zyair took out the picture of her in the costu Lawrence had forwarded him.

From her shy eyes to her coy smile, Skyla was a woman with many talents which had been wasted for the past eight years. Now that he was capable enough to set her free, there was no stopping him.

The only question which terrified him was will she ever accept soone like him?
