Zyair stayed near the window, simply watching her at tis and sotis turning his face away. Her small snores filled the vicinity now that she was fast asleep. The curtain of her fiery tresses were spread like Phoenix feathers all over the white pillow, a few strands had fallen over her face.
Zyair slowly sat down on the armchair that rested in the corner of her room with his hands clasped and legs spread. He wondered why she hadn’t changed her clothes or taken off his jacket. Did it bring her so kind of comfort?
This woman was a puzzle and he couldn’t wait for her to finally open up to him. Share whatever she was going through, what she went through without any filters. Just like she had done with Calix in that Golden Room.
She had trusted him enough to let him inside her room and he would never break it, so he stayed at a distance although when his body ached to hold her.
With his eyes focused on her finally serene face, he leaned back on the sofa and slowly closed them. He didn’t even realise when he drifted off to sleep as well.
The morning sun rose and yet both of them rested, so near and yet so far. Skyla slept with the reassurance that soone was there while he did because she was closer to him.
The incessant ringing of Skyla’s phone made her stir and she reached out with her hand to search for it. Finally finding it buried under her duvet. She rubbed her eyes and tried to open them to see who it was.
As soon as she saw the caller ID all her drowsiness evaporated and her eyes flew wide open. The beats of her heart upped within seconds. She sat up straight in bed, threw a tentative look around and found Zyair sleeping on the sofa. Heat crept up in her cheeks and ears turning them blood red.
’Oh! No,’ she muttered to herself. This was going to be so awkward but first, she had to deal with this call.
Gathering up all the courage she possessed she finally received the call and said.
"Hello!" it ca out a little shaky.
"Were you still sleeping? Aren’t you supposed to be working over there?" Doran’s intimidating voice was bombarded in her ears the first thing in the morning. He spoke so loud that it filtered out through the phone’s speaker and could be heard all over her room.
"The eting is later," she quietly answered, throwing a tentative look at her boss, who seed to be still fast asleep.
"What did you people do yesterday? Signed any deals?" Doran didn’t care about the well-being of his wife, all he needed was the information.
"Not yet, we are still looking for the best company to sign with," she tried to answer in a way that not much information would be revealed to him.
"Everyone knows The Urbans is the top-notch company in Marica. Don’t tell Zyair is dumb enough to not sign with them and with soone else."
Skyla closed her eyes at the way Doran tried to berate Zyair. She rubbed her forehead sensing a headache creeping up there because of the assholery she had to deal with so early in the morning.
"Mr Zyair knows what he is doing, I am sure he will take the decision which suits the company the most." She tried to keep the irritation out of her voice as her eyes flitted again to Zyair, who seed so tranquil and yet perfect even in his sleeping posture.
"Oh! Please, don’t start singing his songs now. Don’t forget at the end of the day your loyalties stand with ." The jealousy he always showed with Zyair was strewn in every word he was barking at Skyla.
"Of course, how can I ever?" she said with her forehead in her hands. Any more nonsense and she would explode.
"I need all the information once you return. Rember to behave." With that, the call ended and Skyla placed her phone aside.
Yesterday’s events swirled in her mind. She knew if Doran even got a whiff of the incident or that she invited Zyair into her room because of how scared she got, all hell would break loose. He would most probably kill her, the re thought made her gulp hard and headache intensified.
But did she regret her decisions? Did she regret talking to her boss late at night, sponging every ounce of his affection or even inviting him inside?
The answer was a NO in bold letters. The way he had rushed to her room hearing her scream spoke volus of the kind of a man he was.
She had no guilt, just slight embarrassnt. What he must have thought seeing her still in his jacket?
"Good morning! Miss Skyla, how are you feeling?" His smooth voice had her heart missing a beat as she quickly raised her head and threw a tentative glance in his direction.
His bluer than the ocean deeper than Mariana Trench peepers were focused on her making her instantly gulp. Head rested comfortably on his hand and even waking up after sleeping in such an awkward position, he still appeared like a mysterious god from a faraway land.
"Good... morning! Sir, I am alright, sorry...I." s
She was trying to rake her mind to find the correct words to apologise when he raised his hand at her so she would stop blabbering. The girl with red hair was relieved for she was a stuttering ss and had no clue what to say.
"Yesterday night was rough and you needed emotional support. I don’t think I was able to provide too much but you have nothing to apologise for. How are you feeling? Just tell this." He adjusted his mask and stood up, straightening his clothes.
"Better, just have a slight headache," she truthfully answered, trying not to peek at him.
"Freshen up, I will order breakfast and dicine. Rest a bit after that and we will head out at noon. We have another company here to check out."
"Yes, Sir!" she respectfully stated, humbled at how he saved her from all the embarrassnt and didn’t ntion anything.
He made his way towards the door and paused near it with his hand at the door handle.
"Miss Skyla, don’t worry. This will only remain between the two of us," his intense eyes wavered to her and found her thankful ones she nodded in understanding.
Like a fiery goddess, she was tantalizingly beautiful. He had to tear his eyes away.
Her mumbling of a thank you was the last word he heard as he quietly exited her room and went over to his.
’I am going to murder that asshole,’ Zyair said to himself between clenched teeth. He had heard his conversation with Skyla and understood how he spoke to her when no one was around.
Zyair also understood he was fishing Skyla for information and this could turn extrely dangerous for her. She would never betray him, Zyair knew this not in his bones but deep into his bone marrow. But he didn’t trust that ass clown even one bit and Zyair would be damned if he would hurt her again, especially on his watch now.
