Skyla read his text and wondered what he truly ant. Did he want soone irrespective of his gynophobia? He must, everyone desires intimacy in so form. At least she could curb that theory of him being gay now. She chuckled to herself at the thought as she very carefully typed her next text and pressed send.

[Do you want soone like that?]

Zyair opened it and his mischievous smile widened.

[My heart, my mind and my body don’t align when it cos down to that. Maybe soday they will and your strange boss will desire a woman too. But for now, I don’t like them near .]

Zyair was sure there would never be a woman he would desire who was not her. He had seen it all and nothing attracted him anymore.

Skyla on the other hand wondered what tragedy must have befallen him. It made her miserable to even think that he was lonely too. Such a great man deserved to be happy. Suddenly she felt so protective of him, knowing if a woman was to lay her hands on him, he would feel such unease.

[Don’t worry, until that ti cos I will ensure no woman crosses your set boundaries.] She wrote and sent her next text.

Zyair’s chest was suddenly inundated with these warm tender emotions. How she affected him in ways he didn’t know himself and moving forward it was only going to beco difficult to resist her. She was resilient even after today’s events and the others that had befallen her for the past eight years.

[Then from today onwards I declare you my guardian angel.] He wrote and forwarded it.

Skyla’s face burnt hot at his kind words and her fingers slightly trembled holding the phone. He was her guardian angel as he had proven today and yet he had awarded the title to her.

[I will not disappoint you, Sir.] She answered and yawned. Her stiff muscles had relaxed and the comfy bed was lulling her to fall asleep.

’You can never disappoint Skyla,’ he murmured to himself as his slender fingers traced the text she had sent.

[You are a gem, Miss Skyla. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.] Zyair replied, hoping she could see how beautiful she was inside and out. He just needed to boost her confidence, every day.

[I will keep that in mind, thank you for everything you have done for . Today and before that.]

They conversed to and fro until Skyla fell asleep and her phone slipped from her hand and fell on the bed. Zyair waited for her text but then realised she must have fallen asleep.

A tired smile was on his face as he lay there with his hands behind his head and his eyes staring at the white ceiling of his room. The one-winged angel pendant rested on his lips.

It was near dawn when his eyes began to droop too but then he heard her scream from the next room and all that sleep evaporated in a blink of an eye.

Like Flash, he was out of his bed, grabbing his shirt and mask from the chair he had placed them on. He bolted out of the door and was knocking on hers in no ti.

His heart desperately pounded and his brows had scrunched up. What must have gotten her scared? Did she hurt herself? He knocked again when finally Skyla opened the door leaving him stunned.

She was still wearing his coat jacket and was slightly trembling.

"Are you alright? What happened?" he asked in confusion, seeing her shivering figure and fearful eyes.

"It...it was just a nightmare," she mumbled, lowering her frightened gaze.

What had her so scared?

"Do you want to talk about it? I can listen," Zyair gently asked, adjusting his mask, he had hastily put it on. To his amazent, she nodded her head in affirmation and stepped aside, inviting him inside her room.

Zyair quietly stepped in and walked over to the window in a corner, giving her and himself space. Although his body was begging him to remove every inch between them and have her plastered to his chest.

Skyla remained standing where she was, still gripped by the anxiety and fear that had rocked her, she gripped his jacket and tightened it around herself as if it contained so calming magic. Zyair observed her actions with desperate eyes.

"Miss Skyla! I will stay here. No one will hurt or touch you. Fear not, just take a few deep breaths." Zyair guided her from near the window and she obeyed.

The tender tone of his voice was like a whistling zephyr that wrapped itself around her and settled her restless heart.

How much did he break her over the years? Zyair kept wondering as he soothed her with his words.

"Lie down and close your eyes, sleep will co," his unagitated deanour was sothing Skyla had begun to crave and she did as he had said.

Climbing into bed she wrapped the soft duvet around her and focused her eyes on this strange man who was trying to bring all her defences down with just his kindness.

Why did he care so much about her?

Or maybe that’s how kind n were like her father used to be.

Her eyes had moistened at the thought of how quickly he had arrived just hearing her scream.

She had fallen asleep while texting him and then Doran had appeared in her dream with a sharp leather whip. The sound of it being slashed on her skin had her screaming and she had woken up trembling, drenched in sweat with her heart going berserk inside her chest.

That nightmare would never fade and what had transpired today left her more broken. Her body had surely gone into flight mode.

"It will pass, I am here," he softly reassured her again, seeing how her eyes were shimring with tears under the soft light.

What would he not give to just climb in the bed with her and bury her in his arms, let her cry to her heart’s content and just damn the consequences.

And yet he stood there by the window, watching her with tender eyes. These forbidden threads that bound them, he wasn’t sure how long they would hold before snapping.

"Thank you!" she whispered so very softly. Her voice quivered and broke as her eyes closed. A tiny salty droplet like a precious pearl fell out of her left eye, slid down and got buried into his coat jacket.

The tear was like a hamr that fell onto his heart and split it open. His hands clutched at his sides and teeth ground against each other so rigidly that so might have gotten loose.

"Sleep Skyla, I am not going anywhere."

Her na without the title was the last thing Skyla heard as she fell into sleep.
