Ever since Skyla had called him Calix in the car, his heart was in shambles. Did she rember the boy from eight years ago? Did she rember him or was it just her drunken state putting images in her head?
Unlike Skyla, Zyair couldn’t sleep the whole night. The tornting thoughts kept him awake.
Opening the Webnovel app he began to read her comic. The details in every drawing left him stumped. The way she was creating and shaping her characters was a feat in itself.
Such a good piece of work needed to be rewarded and so he did with a smile on his face. He could imagine her face blossoming like a red rose seeing the gift he had sent her.
The re thought put a smile on his face as well and so of his uneasiness evaporated.
Wanting to check up on her so early in the morning and beyond his good judgnt, Zyair ended up sending her a text.
Unable to wait for her text he hit the gym. All that pent-up frustration needed to be vented out in a positive fashion. He worked out for two hours, leaving himself panting and sweaty.
Zyair proceeded to take a shower before joining his mother for breakfast.
The enticing aroma of freshly made pancakes was wafting from the kitchen. Despite having many servants, ena loved to cook herself. Especially now that Zyair was staying here she would give everyone leave so he could take off his mask with ease inside the house.
Sunday was mother and son’s day now.
Her exceptional culinary skills were always appreciated by her late husband and now her adopted son.
The sll carried Zyair to the kitchen where his mother was busy making a healthy breakfast for both of them. He took a deep whiff and picked up the bowl with cherries and blueberries. Plopping one in his mouth he leaned against the kitchen counter.
"Good morning! Mom. It slls nice and I know it will taste divine."
"Good morning my beautiful boy, it’s all about cooking with love." She graciously smiled, picking up the plate of pancakes ena plated the last one from the pan.
"Can’t wait to dive in." Zyair’s mouth watered. Nothing could beat a healthy breakfast after a workout session.
"Let’s have so breakfast and you can tell all about yesterday’s event." Both of them moved towards the dining table. Zyair helped his mom set it and they settled down to have their breakfast.
Zyair topped his pancakes with a lot of whipped cream and fruits and dived right in. Everything lted in his mouth as he savoured the different tastes and how they ca together.
"So the morning paper printed a picture of a stunning woman beside you with quite an interesting caption. Is she the new secretary?"
ena asked with amusent as she spread the paper and showed him a picture of Skyla from last night’s event. She was standing a few feet away from Zyair and both of them were talking.
The caption read:
"The enigmatic CEO and renowned model Zyair Kincaid hires Skyla Doran as his secretary. A strategic move or a counterasure?"
Zyair snorted at the caption.
"The dia will never stop snooping on my private affairs." His eyes remained focused on Skyla in the picture. How stunning she had looked yesterday.
"dia will always be like that and you will remain in the lilight. The girl is very beautiful though. Doran must be head over heels in love with her. Such a lucky man," ena remarked, taking a sip of fresh orange juice.
Zyair wanted to snort in derision, the re ntion of that man birthed repulsive tendencies in him. Shining from the outside, festering garbage from the inside.
He chose to stay quiet instead.
"Well, at least I hope so. His father kept a mistress for many many years. It was not even much of a secret, he used to prance her in social gatherings and parties. I had only t Mrs Blackthorn at a few events, she was a social butterfly and a very dignified woman. Never understood what Mr. Blackthorn saw in that redhead mistress of his."
Zyair was left stunned at the revelation made by his mother. Kincaid had told him about Blackthorn but Zyair had no clue he had a mistress.
"Very interesting. So what happened to the mistress?" Zyair inquisitively asked, placing his fork down and giving all his attention to his mom.
"We don’t know. One day she just disappeared," ena explained with a twitch, "That’s what happens in rich households mostly. Once they get tired, they discard you like a fishbone. That’s why I loved your father. He was such an upright man, the likes of him simply don’t exist."
"Father was one of a kind, indeed and so are you. That’s why both of you made such a power couple." Zyair presented his mother with a warm smile which she returned.
"For real, my son."
They finished breakfast. Zyair’s phone chid and he took it out of his pocket only to suppress a smile. She had replied to him.
ena had arranged a small luncheon with so other ladies of her social circle. She was trying to expand it a bit now because of her boutique. With Kincaid gone, she felt the need to socialise more now, to fill the gap he had left behind. When previously she would refuse such invitations to suburban teas and luxury lunches. This ti she would accept and arrange them.
"I will try to be back as soon as possible so we can watch a movie tonight," she told her son before heading out.
"Don’t worry Mom, take your ti. I will be here when you return," Zyair replied with a smile while he offered Bitu an apple slice.
The raucous parrot had taken his place on his shoulder as Zyair had Skyla’s comic opened and was reading her thank you note.
"Goodbye!" His mom called out as she headed out towards her car.
"Goodbye!" Zyair walked her to the door and stood watching her.
"Bye, bye, bye!" Bitu shrieked behind her until her car disappeared.
Zyair returned to the recliner in their living room and plopped himself on it, ready to have a very interesting conversation with Skyla. She didn’t know it was him, reading her comic. He had used the pseudonym Kakashi. Now, she could openly talk to him without being afraid of offending her boss.
