Zyair was sitting in absolute composure checking sothing out on his cellphone. While Skyla’s head was leaning on his shoulder, using it as a comfortable pillow as she slept in her drunken state. Zyair’s coat was covering her upper body.
Lawrence’s eyes almost popped out of his sockets as his head whirled back to face his boss and Zyair’s amused eyes flitted to him and he lifted his right brow.
"What are you doing?" Lawrence asked in a shocked state, his brain unable to comprehend the scene in front of him.
"Scrolling through my phone," he nonchalantly added a newfound shade of self-composedness in his overall deanour.
"You know what I am asking?" Lawrence’s eyes narrowed at his boss, who was purposefully acting so ignorant. He never scrolled through his phone, he hated the damn thing. Mostly Lawrence had to carry it around for him.
"I certainly don’t. Drive, we need to drop Miss Skyla off. I have added the location to her house in GPS." Zyair’s serene eyes went back to the expensive phone in his hand, leaving Lawrence’s mouth agape. He shook his head and turned back to focus on the steering wheel but his curious eyes went to the rearview mirror again as he cautiously warned his boss while starting the car.
"It’s a dangerous ga you are playing, don’t you think? I know you don’t like Doran but..." he left the sentence hanging.
Zyair’s ticulous eyes slowly rose to find Lawrence wearily staring at him.
"If you think I have nefarious intentions for Miss Skyla then you don’t know at all."
He weighed out every word he uttered to his intern.
"That’s not what I ant. I know you are a man of principles but care to explain how you are letting a woman sleep on your shoulder? I have never seen you allow a woman in your proximity let alone touch you."
"I can’t let her sleep with her head banging against the car window, she would have hurt herself," Zyair casually explained as if it were a regular occurrence.
Lawrence knew this was not the truth. He had also taken the liberty to cover her with his coat, although the car was warm enough. But he kept his mouth shut. His boss had been behaving strangely from the mont he t Skyla and hired her. The keen interest he showed in her was so very unlike him.
"If you say so," Lawrence smirked with a twinkle in his eyes, letting his boss know that he didn’t believe him but wouldn’t drag the topic any longer for now.
Zyair couldn’t help but steal glances at the beautiful woman sleeping on his shoulder, she lightly snored and then her hand coiled around his arm and he found a mont of imnse peace at her touch.
She mumbled sothing incoherent and Zyair quietly watched her. The desire to take her ho with him was imnse so she could continue to sleep peacefully but he knew she would panic and that’s not what he intended to do.
Now that her face was so close to him and so of her makeup had co off, he could see a small bruise on her cheek. The volcano of anger burst inside of him and he couldn’t wait for the day when he would burn Doran alive in it.
Lawrence was silently observing his boss whose eyes were glued to Miss Skyla’s sleeping face and not her body. Telling him he didn’t lust for her or had any wrong intentions but that tenderness in his eyes was sothing Lawrence had hardly ever seen for anyone else.
In his stupefaction, the car hit a slight bump on the road and Zyair’s arm protectively wrapped itself around Skyla’s sleeping figure although she was wearing a seatbelt, his arm kept her secured and closer to him.
"Focus on driving, Lawrence." Zyair’s annoyed eyes flickered to the young boy and he gulped before sheepishly adding.
"Sorry, but you can’t bla for witnessing sothing I have never done."
"There is a lot you don’t know. Maybe in due ti." His eyes went back to Skyla who seed so peacefully sleeping, without a care in the world.
"Oh! I would love to know whatever this is," Lawrence kept his eyes on the road now but his edgy voice made Zyair smile under the mask.
"Little Lawrence, always so curious. What do I always say?" Zyair asked, picking up a strand of Skyla’s Auburn hair and moving it away from her face so he could watch her innocent beauty for a few more minutes.
"Patience, show patience," Lawrence dragged the words out in annoyance. Why would patience be practised every ti?
"Yes, Lawrence. Patience is critical in winning everything and everyone over." Lawrence was sure his boss was not even talking to him anymore and he wondered what it was that his boss sought.
It couldn’t be Miss Skyla, could it?
They arrived at their destination and the car halted to a stop. Zyair’s heart sank. The kindles of flas her touch had brought to his cold dead heart were about to be taken away.
He carefully woke her up, not trying to startle her by any ans.
"Miss Skyla, we are here." She groggily opened her eyes, the fog in her brain made all her senses hazy and slow as she sat up. The coat slid down her shoulders and fell on the car seat.
She turned to face the man sitting beside her and her mind took her years in the past. In her drunken state, she slowly and yet clearly uttered for Zyair to hear.
"Calix?" and began to rub her eyes. Zyair was left stunned and frozen when she turned away and mumbled, "Stupid brain."
"Let help you," Lawrence said, opening the back door and guiding her out of the car.
Before she could realise where she had been sleeping, Skyla was out of the car. Her head pounded as if a thousand hamrs were being bashed against it.
"I should call Mada," she mumbled to herself knowing the older lady would be waiting for her. Frisking out her cell phone she placed the call as Lawrence kept standing beside her so she wouldn’t fall.
Mada Maven ca to collect her in no ti and Skyla waved Lawrence goodbye.
"Thank you for bringing ho, Lawrence." She wobbled away on uneasy steps while Lawrence remained there with a smile.
"No problem," he said as their main door closed and the older woman guided Skyla inside. There was only one car in the driveway, Amsilia’s car.
Lawrence slid back in the seat and found Zyair had taken off his mask, his expression had gone rigid and there was this tense look in his eyes.
"Mr. Doran isn’t ho. So relax," Lawrence added with a smile and started the car. He didn’t realise that Zyair had travelled years back and was stuck in a very intimate mont.
