Chapter 266: Chapter 266: Money to Support the Family

Nathaniel Nathan knew he could wait. He could wait until she completely opened her heart to him and willingly told him her secrets.

She turned to leave, but Nathaniel called out to her, "Wait a second."

Vera Xavier turned to look at him. He pulled his wallet from his pocket and handed it to her. "Money for the household."

Vera was a little surprised. She looked up at him as he said coolly, "Take it."

She instantly understood that he wanted to provide for her. In both her past life and this one, this was the first time anyone had given her money like this. The feeling was a bit strange, but it was also wonderful!

She looked at him, then at his wallet. She pursed her lips, and the corners of her mouth turned up unconsciously. He wasn’t the easiest person to get along with, but his feelings for her were absolutely genuine.

She didn’t stand on ceremony and took the wallet from him. A quick glance inside revealed a thick wad of hundred-yuan bills—it had to be several thousand yuan.

She thought for a moment and was about to take just a few hundred-yuan bills as a token gesture when he said, "Wifey, leave me some spending money."

Vera froze for a second. He took out a fifty-yuan bill and a few ten-yuan bills, stuffed them into his own pocket, gave her the wallet and all the large bills, then turned and walked away.

Vera finally snapped out of it. "Wait, take your wallet back!"

"Keep it. It’ll ward off evil for you," Nathaniel said lightly. "If any guys try to hit on you during the exam tomorrow, just show them my wallet."

Vera: "..."

’Young Master Nathan, aren’t you overthinking this? The college entrance exam is tomorrow. Who would even be in the mood for that!’

When she got home, she took a closer look at his wallet and began to understand why he had left it with her. It was because his photo was inside!

Vera had to hand it to him. ’If he wanted to give me his photo, he could have just said so. What’s the point of being so roundabout?’

But as she gazed at his handsome face in the photo, a sweet feeling welled up inside her. She had to admit she was a little afraid of him, but his photo didn’t pose the same problem. After all, a picture couldn’t glare at her or bite her.

She hugged the photo and rolled around on her bed once, then composed herself to face the next day’s exam.

The next morning, Zachary Preston got up early to make breakfast for Vera Xavier and Cara Preston: the usual noodles with two eggs.

Rona Langdon felt a pang seeing the eggs in the bowls. But today was the college entrance exam, and Zachary Preston had been very displeased with her lately, so she could only restrain herself.

Zachary Preston was a good father. To ensure Vera Xavier and Cara Preston would get to the exam site on time, he had taken the day off work and even tuned up the family’s bicycles so they could ride them to the exam.

Cara Preston, however, complained, "We still have to ride bikes to the exam? All the other students in our compound had their families arrange for cars to drive them long ago."

Zachary Preston’s brow furrowed. Vera said coolly, "I think riding a bike to the exam is perfectly fine. If Cara doesn’t like it, she’s free not to take the exam at all."

After speaking, she gave Zachary a slight smile. "Dad, don’t worry. I’ll definitely do my best on the exam today and get a good score to make you proud!"

Zachary didn’t actually care whether she could make him proud or not, but hearing her say it still put him in a great mood. He nodded and said, "Alright, then. I’ll be waiting for you to make me proud. By the way, have you checked your fountain pens? Do you have enough ink?"
