Chapter 265: Chapter 265: A Rare Encounter

Provoked by Nathaniel Nathan, Vera Xavier responded with rare assertiveness, "I may not understand which jade needs to be gambled on and which doesn’t, but that won’t stop me from making money! And you’ll see, I’ll be earning money faster than you can imagine. If you’re not good to me, I’ll..."

She never got to finish her sentence; he silenced the rest of her words with a kiss.

His kiss was as domineering and aggressive as ever. The moment his lips met hers, Vera Xavier felt as if he was trying to devour her whole.

Just as she was about to run out of air, he finally released her and said in a low voice, "Don’t think I don’t know your little scheme. With your situation at home, you have nowhere to hide a bankbook. I’ll keep the money for now. Just come get it from me when you need it."

Vera Xavier: "..."

’Young Master Nathan, it’s fine that you know, but it’s no fun when you call me out on it!’

Nathaniel Nathan reached out and patted her head. "I don’t know how you found this piece of Emperor Green, Vera Xavier, but take my advice: don’t go overdrawing on your luck."

Hearing this, Vera Xavier knew he was indeed suspicious about the jade. But he had a point—luck wasn’t something you should overuse.

’But buying this jade wasn’t about overdrawing on my luck. It was about my skill: an X-ray vision that no one else had.’

She couldn’t tell him the truth, so all she could do was nod obediently.

She asked him, "If you already sold the jade, why does Sterling still have these leftover pieces?"

"Good jade needs a good craftsman to carve it," Nathaniel Nathan explained. "Quentin Sterling comes from a family of jade craftsmen. Though he’s made a small name for himself, he’s nowhere near as famous as his father. In reality, he’s even more talented at carving jade than his father was. Good craftsmen are just as hard to find as good jade, and the buyer was also looking for a top-tier craftsman. So I had Ronan Tate introduce Quentin Sterling to him."

Vera Xavier instantly understood why Quentin Sterling had been so happy today. Carving a superior piece of jade would not only earn him a handsome fee but also help him quickly make a name for himself. For Quentin Sterling at this stage of his career, this was an absolutely joyous event.

She asked worriedly, "Then what’s the deal with this leftover piece I have?"

"When I had Ronan Tate sell the jade, I told him the price was negotiable," Nathaniel Nathan explained. "The only condition was that we get to keep the leftover pieces. We had to make a concession on the price because of that."

The buyer was a jeweler from Marinus, and he was a very decisive man. In any era, Emperor Green is an incredibly rare, once-in-a-lifetime find. So when Nathaniel Nathan made his request, the jeweler agreed without a second thought.

Vera Xavier nodded. "I understand."

Even the leftover pieces of Emperor Green were still valuable and could be used to make small accessories like earrings or the faces of rings.

Nathaniel Nathan looked at her and said, "You have an exam tomorrow. Go home and get some sleep."

Vera Xavier nodded but didn’t turn and leave as she usually did. Instead, she just stared at him fixedly.

He frowned. "Is there something else?"

After a light cough, Vera Xavier walked over, gave him a quick hug, and said, "No, I just suddenly felt like hugging you."

Nathaniel Nathan was a little surprised, but she had already let go. She gave him a slight smile. "Thank you!"

Nathaniel Nathan’s brows furrowed slightly. He knew her "thank you" wasn’t for helping her sell the jade, but for not pressing her on where it came from. For a moment, he wasn’t sure what to feel, but he was also glad he hadn’t forced the issue.
