Chapter 232: Chapter 232: Pig Teammate

When Rona Langdon realized that causing a scene wasn’t going to get Cara Preston released, she rushed home to call Zachary Preston. "Zachary, people these days are such bullies! They arrested Cara for no reason, and when I went over to demand an explanation, they threatened to hit me! That police station is completely lawless. The chief there has no respect for you at all. After I told them your name, they actually said, ’And who is he supposed to be?!’"

Of course, the police chief had never said any of that. Rona Langdon had fabricated the entire story to stoke Zachary Preston’s anger.

If this had been the first call Zachary Preston received, he might have believed her. However, Vera Xavier had already called him. He already knew the whole story, so he said in a low voice, "We’ll talk about this when I get back."

He hung up as soon as he finished speaking.

Rona Langdon was stunned for a moment, then fury surged within her. ’He actually hung up on me! He’s not even going to help Cara!’

She immediately called back. For the rest of the night, Rona Langdon pestered Zachary Preston until his head ached.

The next morning, Vera Xavier came downstairs with her schoolbag, feeling refreshed and energetic. Rona Langdon was sitting in the living room, her hair a mess. When she saw Vera, she shot her a dark glare. The sight gave Vera a huge shock; at a glance, Rona looked just like a ghost.

Vera Xavier ignored Rona Langdon and opened the door to leave for school. Rona suddenly rushed over and grabbed her arm. "Cara is in a detention center because of what you did, and you still have the heart to go to school! Vera Xavier, are you even human?"

Vera Xavier’s eyes darkened. "What do you mean I got her locked up? She’s the one who got herself locked up! Mom, I’m going to count to three. You’d better let go, or don’t blame me for getting rough."

Their eyes met. Rona Langdon saw a palpable killing intent in Vera Xavier’s gaze and instinctively let go. Vera sneered, straightened her clothes, and walked out.

When she arrived at school, she noticed many of her classmates giving her strange looks. She let them stare, walking calmly toward her classroom. The moment she reached the doorway, she was met with the collective gaze of every student inside.

Elise Langdon was already there. She blocked the doorway and demanded, "Vera Xavier, where’s Cara?"

She had actually followed them to the police station the day before, but the officers had sent her home early after confirming she wasn’t involved in the case. As a result, she had no idea what happened afterward.

Vera Xavier replied placidly, "At the police station."

"What? She’s still at the police station?" Elise Langdon’s voice jumped. "You’re out, so why is she still there?"

Vera Xavier, her expression still neutral, said, "People only get locked up if they’ve done something wrong. You should have faith that the police are impartial."

"Done something wrong?" Elise Langdon’s voice jumped an octave. "How could Cara possibly do anything wrong! Vera Xavier, did you frame her?"

Vera Xavier sighed. "There are some things I’d rather not discuss, since she is my sister. But since you’re being so pushy, I’ll let you in on a little something. She was detained along with that man from outside the school yesterday. As for the reason why... I don’t want to say."

Elise Langdon had a blunt personality and didn’t catch the implication in Vera’s words. Instead, she demanded loudly, "What’s that supposed to mean, she was detained along with that man?"
