"Mr. Westwood, what should we do about the charges against your wife?"

Alaric followed him through the corridor.

Every employee that they passed by would stop to pay respect to Landon before they ushered back to their work.

Landon did not respond quickly as they finally reached the end of the corridor, just in ti for the elevator to slide open in front of them.

As soon as the other passengers emptied it, Landon and his secretary entered. Then Landon finally said, "Get the best lawyer in the country and have them counter Mr. Leblanc’s claim. Also, ask the head police chief to find out why the charges passed quickly."

Landon found this point strange. A criminal case of attempted murder was a heavy one. However, he was sure that no evidence could indict Lucy nor a witness that would prove that she was truly the one who pushed Yvonne.

Of course, Yvonne’s words could play a great role. She was the one who fell from the stairs, after all.

However, it was not enough.

The court won’t accept that. Lucy had no motive to push her or even attempt to murder her.

"Also, find out the source of the rumors about and my wife. I want all of them taken down and apologize for their false claim," said Landon while fixing his tie.

Alaric wrote down the things his boss said in his head and nodded every ti.

The elevator opened to the basent, and they headed towards Landon’s car. It was a black Rolls Royce, a car that Landon bought on a whim when Lucy once ntioned she liked it.

Landon sat behind and looked out of the window. The car soon drove out of the company in silence. In half an hour, they crossed the borders of the city and ended up in a park in front of the city’s local university.

Several stores were lining up the road, and as Landon got out of the car, his eyes focused on a flower shop and he marched towards it.

"Welco!"

The florist behind the counter was a middle-aged woman with a headband wrapped around her head. She smiled as soon as a custor stepped into the store.

Landon let his eyes roam around, taking in the different colors and types of flowers inside the small store.

"Are you buying flowers for your girlfriend?" the florist rounded the counter and approached him. "I have just the right flowers your girl will love!"

"Wife." Landon corrected her. "And I want Magnolias."

Lucy once told him she liked Magnolia for it symbolized luck and stability. Landon didn’t believe in this. Luck and stability were also a result of effort and hard work. But after seeing the sweet smile on her face when he first bought her a bouquet of Magnolia, he swallowed those words for fear that the smile would fade away.

When he was done paying for the bouquet, Landon walked for another ten minutes around the park before he reached his destination.

With a bouquet in hand, Landon attracted many stares from all the people in the park, n and girls alike. So won tried to approach him to flirt or take a picture, but the cold expression he wore made them all back away.

Ti ticked by and Landon stood still under the tree. He glanced at his wristwatch for the fifth ti and saw that it was already 1:32 in the afternoon.

Almost two hours had passed, and yet Lucy hadn’t arrived.

But Landon didn’t seem tired of waiting.

When the ti finally reached 3 p.m. Alaric finally got out of the car and ran to him.

"Sir, it’s been six hours. I don’t think Mrs. Westwood would co..."

Landon gripped the bouquet in his hand tightly. "She will."

Alaric looked at his boss worriedly. Waiting for an hour or two would already make a person tired and leave. But his boss was too stubborn and did not want to leave!

"Then, why don’t I stay here for a bit so you can go and eat?" Alaric suggested this idea twice already. This was his third ti. But he hoped his boss would soon accept it.

Unfortunately, Landon didn’t listen to him. "If you’re hungry, you can go first."

Who’s hungry? I already ate my lunch three hours ago! Alaric felt his head throbbing. He returned to the car and leaned against the chair, watching his boss look like a lovesick fool. Or maybe he was?

Alaric wanted to watch his boss a bit more, but his sleepiness won. Soon, he closed his eyes and dozed off.

At the sound of rain pattering hard against the windshield, Alaric jolted awake. He dazedly looked around, forgetting where he was at first before rembering that his boss was still outside.

Grabbing an umbrella, Alaric started running towards the tree again. The sky was already dark and the lights in the park started to flicker to life.

Since it was raining, he didn’t see people around the park anymore.

Alaric’s feet halted from walking forward when he saw the sight of his boss standing under the oak tree.

From afar, he looked like one of those paintings that you would see in a museum or art gallery. It was picturesque and depressing at the sa ti. And if Alaric hadn’t rembered Landon was his boss, the painting in front of him would have the title Stuck and Still.

Hurrying over to his boss’ side, Alaric was about to open his mouth to persuade his boss again.

Before his secretary’s voice could co out, Landon took his first step away from the tree. Each step was filled with a weight that seed to drag his feet.

The rain had soaked all over his body, making the expensive suit cling to him like a bodysuit. It was uncomfortable and cold, but it was incomparable to the way his heart had chilled over.

She didn’t co.

Landon had waited and waited.

For ten hours, he stood under the oak tree, waiting for her. And like a fool, he believed she would co. He even made excuses for her. Maybe she was late because of the traffic, or maybe she overslept.

They reached the car, and Landon entered without a word.

The car ca alive and slowly drove out of the park.

Being his secretary, Alaric asked out of habit, "Sir, should we go back to the company?"

Landon looked out of the window and watched the beads of water cling to the glass before turning into a chain of rainwater dripping down.

He considered going back to the company, but his voice betrayed him as he said, "Go to my wife’s best friend’s apartnt."

Lucy refused to co and see him.

Then he will.
