Chapter 908: Chapter 896: The Wounded Innocent Heart (Part 2)

"Daddy, I can’t decide which one to choose. Can you tell me?" Curly said slyly.

"I think you should choose the right hand," Adrian Desmond said.

"Haha, I think so too."

Curly used both hands to pry open Adrian’s right hand. Adrian flipped his hand over and opened it, "Wow..."

"Do you like it?"

It was a strawberry hairpin made of gemstones, the first one given. When Abraham was imprisoned, it was destroyed as a key, and Adrian specially had an identical one made.

"So pretty." Curly nodded vigorously, loving the strawberry hairpin, her eyes smiling crescent-shaped.

"Now can you stop being mad at Mommy and Daddy?"

Curly put away her smile and said seriously, "I won’t be mad at Daddy anymore, but I’ll continue to be mad at Mommy."

"Why?"

"Daddy gave me a strawberry hairpin, and Mommy didn’t give me anything."

Adrian pinched her chubby cheeks and laughed, "Why are you so greedy, little girl?"

"She carelessly gave away my Big White. Can’t I be mad? I love her jewelry so much, but I never took it."

"All your mother’s jewelry will be yours sooner or later."

"If it’s not in my hands, who knows whose it is." Curly fiddled with the strawberry hairpin and said in a crisp voice.

"If Daddy gives you another little gift, and if you like it, can you not be mad at Mommy?" Adrian negotiated with her.

Holding the strawberry hairpin, Curly glanced sideways at Adrian, "Another diamond? Diamonds can’t make up for the damage done to my innocent little heart."

Looks like she doesn’t like diamonds anymore, he thought.

"It’s not a diamond."

"Then what is it?"

Adrian, like a magician, conjured up a very small, all-white tiny round ball from his hand, not even as big as his palm.

Curly looked at it and asked, "What is this?" She poked it, and the tiny round ball moved, startling her.

"It’s a Persian cat."

Adrian poked it again, and the kitten popped its head out, revealing beautiful eyes like sapphires. Seeing Curly’s expression, Adrian knew she loved it.

"Do you like it?"

"I do."

Curly gave Adrian a kiss, completely forgetting about the "damage done to her innocent little heart."

"Now you’re not allowed to be mad at Mommy anymore, understand?"

Curly carefully cradled the kitten in her arms and said impatiently, "Okay, okay, for your sake, I won’t be mad at your wife anymore."

"..."

"But Old Man, I’m telling you, your wife is really out of line. You need to keep her in check, or who knows what trouble she’ll get into."

Why did those words sound so familiar?

Adrian thought about it and realized those were Sienna Johnson’s words, altered by Curly.

Adrian laughed, holding his forehead, utterly helpless against this little rascal.

"My wife is wonderful, so you better not badmouth her."

"Daddy, love has blinded you, you can’t see Mommy’s true colors."

"Where did you learn these nonsensical words?"

"From Auntie Leanne."

"Leanne Andrews?"

"Yup."

Adrian remembered her as a woman who wrote a bunch of sensational romance novels. He’d read a few, and they were explosive, absurd, to say the least.

A domineering CEO doesn’t love a beautiful supporting character but is infatuated with an ordinary-looking, average-built heroine; and another one even more outrageous, where the protagonist doesn’t love a fairy-like ex-girlfriend but falls for an old and overweight heroine...

Adrian just wanted to ask: What kind of taste do these men have?

Anyway, he’s superficial; he was first attracted to Sienna Johnson’s beauty, and then by her internal qualities.

If Sienna Johnson had looked like the heroines in Leanne Andrews’ novels, old and overweight, Adrian would’ve definitely kicked her into the sea, leaving her to fend for herself.

"Sweetie, read fewer of Leanne’s books. They’re all fake. As a man, I want to tell you, if you’re ugly, men won’t like you."

"Hmm, if a man is ugly, I won’t like him either! My future husband’s looks definitely have to be high," Curly agreed.

"Curly, you can’t just look at a man’s appearance. A lot of men just have a good-looking face but are trash inside."

Adrian, as a father, was deeply worried, afraid his daughter might inadvertently be deceived by a bad man.

"Got it, when I find a boyfriend, I’ll let your foxy wife take a look."

"Can you stop picking on my wife? She’s your mom too."

"Daddy, did your wife, my mom, hit you last night?"

"No, your mom and I have a great relationship."

Curly gently touched Adrian’s face and said, "Stop pretending in front of me. Aren’t you tired? There’s a scratch on your face. I’m sure it’s Mom’s doing."

"Your mom accidentally did it last night."

"Dad, you’re so pitiful."

"I think I’m very happy. Others wish your mom would scratch them, but she doesn’t care for them."

Curly shook her head, "Daddy, I think you’re being so mistreated by Mom that you’re becoming masochistic.

This is an illness that needs treatment.

I’m leaving now, but you should see a doctor when you have time."

"You’re getting more and more audacious, young lady! How can you talk to me like that?"

Curly stuck her tongue out at Adrian and stopped talking, holding her little kitten.

"Come on, let’s go wake Mom up for breakfast."

Adrian lifted Curly, letting her ride on his shoulders. Adrian himself was tall, and Curly felt like she was standing on a giant’s shoulders.

"Daddy, how much do I have to eat to grow as tall as you?"

Being so high up, Curly enjoyed the view and felt great.

"Sweetie, it’s fine if you reach Mommy’s height."

"Mommy’s too short."

"How is she short?"

"Mommy reaches for a kiss, but can’t reach your mouth."

Adrian: ...
