Chapter 907: Chapter 896: A Child’s Innocent Heart Wounded

"I might have to sacrifice family for the greater good."

Adrian Desmond understood what Sienna Johnson meant. He pulled her into his arms and said only one sentence, "You still have me. I will never betray you."

Sienna glanced at the man’s face, warmth blooming in her heart, and she主动与他十指相扣.

Falling in love with a man like this took enormous courage.

Fortunately, he had not let that courage go to waste.

"Be a little selfish, a little ruthless, even if it’s for me and the child. When it comes to Marvin Rafael, you can’t act on emotion."

"..."

"Think about what you told me yourself back when it was about the Carpenter Family."

"I know. ...This has to be investigated clearly. If we let them keep running wild like this and something really happens, that’ll be hurting Marvin Rafael."

Adrian lightly stroked her hand with his thumb and said softly, "You’re a smart woman; you naturally know what to do."

Sienna gave a bitter little smile. "I’m going to lose a Brother who loves me."

"..."

"Maybe even an adoptive mother who loves me."

Sienna really couldn’t tell, when it came to this, whether Rose Collins knew anything and, if so, how much.

If Rose Collins knew everything and chose to hide it from her, Sienna wouldn’t be able to accept it.

...

Adrian suddenly appeared at the Johnson Family house, scaring everyone there half to death, because they had absolutely no idea when he had come back.

And because he wanted to see Sienna as soon as possible, Adrian hadn’t come in through the front gate; he’d literally climbed over the wall.

"Curly, Daddy’s back. Did you miss Daddy?"

When Adrian got up, the first thing he did was go look for his daughter. He hadn’t expected her to be up so early; she was already down by the pond feeding the fish.

"Curly, come to Daddy." Adrian held out his hand to her.

When Curly saw her father, delight flashed across her face and she instinctively ran toward him. She’d only taken a few steps when something seemed to occur to her; she stopped, stood there, and turned her head awkwardly to the side, ignoring Adrian.

Adrian squatted there with his arms open, waiting for his daughter to barrel into his embrace, but he never got to hold that soft little bundle.

"Curly, what’s wrong?"

"Hmph!"

Adrian stood up and walked over to her himself, then squatted down to look at his daughter. Even squatting, he was taller than Curly.

"I heard from Sally that you aren’t talking to Mommy anymore?"

"Hmph!"

"Curly’s not talking to Mommy anymore. Mommy’s very sad."

"..."

"Is it because Mommy sent your little leopard to the zoo?"

Curly said, "His name is Big White."

"All right, Big White."

"Daddy gave him to me, so he was mine. But Mommy sent Big White to the zoo without asking my permission. How could Mommy do that?"

All this time had gone by, and Curly was still holding on to this.

Adrian wasn’t going to reason with his daughter the way Sienna had, but Adrian had his own way.

"In our family, Mommy has the final say. Big White’s been sent to the zoo; there’s nothing Daddy can do either."

Curly’s lips trembled, and she was about to cry from sheer grievance. "...I don’t like you. I don’t like Mommy either."

"But I have something else good for you."

"I don’t want anything. I just want Big White!" Curly said stubbornly.

"Don’t say that so soon. Take a look first."

Adrian showed his daughter his hands. They were completely empty, nothing in them at all. "Daddy will do a magic trick and make something appear for you, okay?"

Adrian’s hands moved deftly; he could switch out an entire deck of cards, let alone do a small trick like this.

"Guess what Daddy’s giving you?" Adrian blinked at his daughter.

"A little leopard?" Curly looked at Adrian with her face full of hope.

Adrian gave a wry smile. "A little leopard is definitely out of the question. Mommy won’t let you keep one. If you do, she’ll just send it off to the zoo again."

"Hmph!"

Adrian suddenly curled both hands into fists and held them out in front of Curly. "Sweetheart, guess which hand it’s in. If you guess right, it’s yours. If you guess wrong, you don’t get it."

Curly’s interest was hooked by Adrian; her eyes darted back and forth between his left and right hands as she tried to choose.

"Is it in the right hand?"

"Are you sure?"

Curly looked into her father’s eyes and lost confidence. "No, it’s in the left hand..."

"Are you sure?"

"No, no, let me think again."

Curly chewed on her finger, brow furrowed in distress, and the sight made Adrian’s heart go soft. He loved this little thing so much not only because she was his daughter, but even more because she was the child Sienna had given him.
