Chapter 818: Chapter 838: Vigilance

"And you? What have you been up to? You’re only just back now," Sienna Johnson asked.

"Went to see a friend."

Sienna took off his baseball cap and sunglasses, staring into his eyes, "What friend? Do I know them?"

"No, you don’t!"

"Oh." Sienna didn’t ask further, leaning lazily against the single sofa, looking at the simple street scenery outside.

When she was Domestic, many people lamented missing the golden era of the initial reform and opening up, so they thought of coming to places like Himakati and Mandanila to develop.

Only after coming did Sienna realize how naive that idea was.

"What are you thinking about?"

"I’m just pondering why this place is so poor."

"All the money is being exploited by those above; it’s no wonder they’re poor."

"When I was Domestic, some friends even joked about wanting to develop here. Realistically, it’s not feasible at all.

Business requires order, rules, and legal guarantees, but here, it’s just not possible.

No matter how much money you make, without strong power here, you can’t even keep what you’ve earned."

"So, the ones making money here are those cutting corners."

"Do you have any business here?"

"No."

"How profitable is your arms business?"

Adrian Desmond squinted at her, "What’s with you today?"

"Can’t say?"

"It’s not that I can’t say, it’s just that you’re acting strange today. You’ve never asked about my business matters." Adrian held a cigarette in his mouth but didn’t light it.

"I heard from Brandon Potter today that Walter Klein has been arranged into your arms business."

Adrian replied, "I know about Walter Klein, Alyssa told me. Why?"

"Aren’t you afraid he’ll become another Xavier Young?"

Adrian had, in fact, secretly sent someone to investigate Xavier Young.

The Young family was just an ordinary family, yet Xavier Young, in just a few years, became the second biggest drug lord next to Wayne Manning in Himakati. Where did his initial funds come from?

Here, the threshold to become a drug lord is very high; you need money to buy weapons, hire people, and attempt to form an Armed forces... Just this alone is quite an expense.

Where did Xavier Young get the money?

Or is someone funding him behind the scenes, and Xavier Young is just a puppet?

"Adrian, I find it hard to trust people now! Walter Klein knows too much about you. I’m afraid he’ll harbor resentment and might stab you in the back one day."

"..."

"You can say I’m judging a gentleman with a petty heart, but I can’t take risks... You’re not always going to be so lucky, surviving a gunshot to the heart." Sienna looked at Adrian, her eyebrows tinged with sorrow.

"Adrian, I’m scared."

"Didn’t you say good men don’t live long, and villains last a thousand years? I’m no good guy, I’ll definitely live a long and healthy life."

"I’m talking serious business," Sienna said irritably.

"I’ll listen to you; whatever you say goes. Should I drive him away?"

"If he wants to leave, give him a generous severance. If he insists on staying, arrange for him to be in an unimportant position.

If he stays in that position for a while and still wants to stay, have someone secretly watch him.

He knows too much about the two of us, I’m not at ease."

"..."

"If not after wealth or power, he must be after something else..." Sienna said.

Adrian looked at Sienna, explaining, "Walter Klein has too much ambition. It’s not his first time being deceitful. I can’t use someone like that."

"I understand, I support your decision."

Adrian looked at Sienna’s face and reached out to touch the corner of her eye, "Why hasn’t the bruise healed yet?"

"It’s a hematoma, it’ll take about another week."

"The scenery in Mandanila is not bad; let’s enjoy a week here before we leave."

Sienna didn’t even need to ask why and said obediently, "Okay."

On the way back, Adrian had prepared a whole speech, but she decided so readily that he didn’t get to use a single word of explanation.

"I have a classmate in Mandanila; it’s perfect timing to meet them."

"Male or female?"

"Male. If you’re not comfortable, come with me. Besides, I’ll go for a prenatal check-up." Sienna said.

"Alright. I’ll go with you tomorrow."

...

The weather here is too hot; the bright sun outside made Sienna even less willing to move.

"Didn’t the doctor tell you to move around more? Said it’d make for an easier childbirth. If you keep sitting like this, what if you can’t deliver?"

Sienna gave him a glare, "Adrian, you jinx, no speaking nonsense! Who says I won’t be able to deliver? I’ll have a smooth delivery."

"My fault, I spoke wrongly."

"Didn’t a friend ask you out? Go ahead, I’ll stay at the hotel and wait for you."

Sienna didn’t want to go anywhere, preferring to stay comfortably in the room.

"If you don’t go, what’s the point of me going alone?" Adrian sat beside her, watching her sketch.

"Is that a drawing of me?"

"I’m drawing our son."

"Who’s your son? This clearly looks like me."

Adrian looked at the adorable babies she drew, each with different features, and he suddenly felt having many kids with Sienna would be nice.

"Your son would definitely look like you."

"But I want a baby who looks like you."

"Then let’s have a daughter next."

Adrian felt guilty, the bitterness spreading in his chest. To have another daughter... Before, he didn’t want to, but now he can’t.

The difference between not wanting and can’t wanting is vast.

Knock, knock...

The door was knocked on; Sienna didn’t move. Adrian got up to open it, and upon seeing who stood at the door, he tried to close it without a word.

Wayne Manning held the door, not letting him close it, "Adrian, that’s not the way to treat guests."

"The deal’s over, what are you here for?"

"Just wanted to see Sienna!"

Adrian blocked the doorway and warned, "Wayne, you know me, stop your little tricks, or don’t blame me for being rude!"

"Hehe, look at you, taking a joke seriously."

"I don’t like jokes, especially not about my woman!"

Wayne said, "I’ve got some intel on the Night Owl. Do you want to hear it?"

"You know Night Owl?"

"Hehe..."

Adrian looked at him with a murderous expression, eyes filled with vigilance, "What’s your relationship with Night Owl?"

"Enemies!"

Adrian didn’t believe Wayne’s lies; if half of what came out of this man’s mouth was true, it would be incredible.

"Do you know Alice?"

Adrian cut him off, "Just go back, I’ll come to find you tomorrow afternoon."
