Chapter 799: Chapter 828: Jungle Escape

After escaping Woodenshade Village, the two slowed their pace, as Lucas couldn’t possibly carry her forever. Besides, the paths in the Forest were tough; Sienna Johnson couldn’t afford to be a burden to Lucas. Their journey was still long.

"Madam, let’s rest for a while before moving on."

Lucas picked a dense tree to rest under, with fallen leaves covering the ground like a soft cushion.

Sienna Johnson was so out of breath that she couldn’t muster the strength to speak; her legs were trembling, utterly exhausted.

Lucas helped her sit against the tree and handed her a bottle of mineral water. Sienna Johnson took it and sipped slowly. After resting for five minutes, she regained her energy.

Lucas rummaged through his backpack and pulled out a map, confirming their direction with a compass.

"I didn’t expect you to be so well-prepared."

Unlike her, who had only changed clothes and shoes, not considering they would need water and food.

Fortunately, Lucas noticed the fire and sensed something was amiss, quickly grabbing their emergency escape kit; otherwise, finding water and food now would be problematic.

Although the ground was covered in water, Sienna Johnson’s frail body might not withstand waterborne diseases. Without medication, a bout of malaria could be fatal.

"When planning an escape, preparation is essential."

"How many days will it take for us to get out of this Forest?"

"At your pace, about five days!"

Sienna Johnson frowned, "That long? Isn’t there a shortcut?"

"There is! We could return to Woodenshade Village, cross through it to the main road. There’s a downhill path there, and after about half a day’s walk, we’d reach a small town. The town has vehicles that could take us to the capital of Himakati, Kramut."

Return to Woodenshade Village?

Sienna Johnson instinctively resisted, remembering Xavier Young whom she had killed.

She switched her stance, "Though the Forest path is slower, it’s somewhat safer. I killed Xavier Young, and they should know by now. If we return recklessly, we might fall into a trap. ... Lucas, let’s stick to your original route."

"It will be tough."

"I can endure hardship."

Two slap marks remained on Sienna Johnson’s face, yet to fade, and one of her eyes was swollen from the blow. Lucas wondered what had happened to provoke Xavier Young into hitting Sienna Johnson.

Lucas had known her for many years, and it was the first time he’d seen Sienna Johnson in such a sorry state.

"He hits women, not a real man!"

Sienna Johnson paused for a second, then realized what was being said and placed her hand on her cheek. She hadn’t noticed earlier, but touching it now, she felt the pain.

"He went berserk when he found out I poisoned him," she chuckled indifferently, the physical pain distant from her heart.

"Are you sure he’s dead?"

"Sure!"

As she left, Xavier Young’s body was already stiff. If he were to come back alive, it would seem like a resurrection.

"Are you really planning to sneak back to Sileria City again without informing Sixth Master?"

"What do you mean by sneaking? That’s my home; I intend to return openly," Sienna Johnson replied confidently.

Lucas was naturally taciturn, and after confirming Sienna Johnson’s intention, he said no more.

Sienna Johnson’s words were his actions; the sooner he got her back, the fewer tears Kiki would shed—they owed Sienna Johnson a debt.

...

The Forest was challenging to traverse, and the phone signal was utterly absent. Without the compass, they might have gotten lost in the Forest.

They walked like this all day, and as night fell, Lucas set up the tent and laid out the sleeping bags.

Sienna Johnson had never walked so much before; her feet were covered in blisters, some of which were burst, mixing blood and fluid, reddening her entire soles, and looking somewhat gruesome.

Lucas knelt before Sienna Johnson on one knee, furrowing his brow as he asked, "In this condition, can you still walk?"

"Can’t walk, but must walk!"

Sienna Johnson washed her feet with clean purified water and sat on the moisture-proof mat, too tired to speak.

The tent was mosquito-proof, and at that moment, Sienna Johnson felt not being bitten by mosquitoes was a blessing; tonight she could finally sleep peacefully.

"I didn’t anticipate your feet would blister. Without medicine, you’ll have to endure."

"I’m pregnant; even with medicine, I can’t use it."
