Chapter 782: Chapter 817: Lucas Robertson Sneaks into Woodenshade Village
The sun sets in the west, and another day has passed.
Sienna Johnson stands at the edge of the fields, watching their hard work. Suddenly, she really misses Adrian Desmond, really misses her daughter.
She knows Adrian has woken up, so why hasn’t he come to rescue her now that he’s awake?
Could it be that because her relationship with Elliot Carpenter is bad, his love for her has changed?
"Madam, what’s so interesting here? Let’s go back," Sulla said impatiently.
"Sulla, you are my translator, not my bodyguard. I’m not sitting in the clinic now, so I don’t need your translation. You’re completely free to do your own things," Sienna said irritably.
Sulla recently found a boyfriend, and they are in a passionate relationship, naturally unwilling to accompany this pregnant Sienna.
"How could I? The Boss told me to take good care of you."
"Everyone here is familiar; how could I possibly get lost?" Sienna was tired of this disguised surveillance.
"Sulla..."
A man shouted Sulla’s name loudly—it was her boyfriend. Sulla stood there and waved at her boyfriend, just as Sienna was about to speak, she noticed the jade bracelet on her wrist and hesitated for a moment. That bracelet...
"Garrett..." Sulla waved at the man in the distance, completely forgetting to hide the jade bracelet in her sleeve.
That was the burial jewelry Sienna gave to the poor woman named Yara Moreau.
Didn’t expect Sulla to even take the belongings of the deceased; Sienna’s gaze grew colder bit by bit.
"Madam, I want to request some time off..."
"Mm."
Overjoyed, Sulla ran off to find her boyfriend, completely unaware of Sienna’s cold tone just now.
Sienna suddenly felt restless and was about to return, when she glanced and saw a child stuffing the poppy flowers planted in the field into his mouth.
"You can’t eat that!" She hurriedly went over and took the flower from the child’s mouth. The child was only two years old; seeing the object taken away from him, he started crying loudly.
The child’s mother heard the crying, straightened up, saw her child crying, came out of the field, and picked him up to comfort him.
Sienna worried that the child’s mother might misunderstand and think she bullied him, so she explained, "He just tried to eat this flower, I took it away from him, and he cried."
"It’s okay," said the child’s mother.
A worker urged the child’s mother to go back to work; the child hadn’t finished eating and the mother stopped breastfeeding him, leaving him at the field’s edge to get back to work.
The child pursed his lips, looking like he was about to cry again. Sienna took a lollipop out of her pocket for him, noticing candy became a powerful tool to win favor.
"Flowers don’t taste good, you shouldn’t eat them in the future, got it?"
"..."
"Don’t eat flowers, and you’ll get candy, okay?"
"Eat candy!" The child quickly made his choice.
Sienna bent down, touched the child’s head, and took out a piece of milk candy from her pocket for him.
The child was overjoyed, "Don’t eat flowers, eat candy!"
"Sweet baby,"
The child drooled, licking the lollipop like it was a worldly delicacy.
Here, the allure of candy to children is immense. "What’s your name?"
The originally happy child suddenly got up and ran toward the field, "Mommy, there’s a ghost, a ghost!"
In broad daylight, where could there be a ghost?
Turning around, Sienna was startled by the person behind her.
The man seemed to be about thirty, in the sweltering weather, yet he was wearing a hat, a mask, gloves, and a broad gray coat, covering himself thoroughly from head to toe.
Sienna felt uncomfortable for him, thinking he must be hot.
The man didn’t even look at her, limping past Sienna with his crutch.
As he passed, she heard the man say quietly, "Madam, I am Lucas Robertson!"
Sienna froze in place.
Lucas?
Afterward, others came over, preventing further conversation. Seeing Sienna staring at the masked man, they proactively explained to her,
"His name is Archie. He was injured when he was young, with burns on his face and hands, so he covers himself fully when going out to avoid scaring others."
"..."
"There’s only him left at home. Usually, he hides at home and rarely goes out. Don’t know why he’s out walking these days," the man said doubtfully.
Sienna, initially unsure, became certain after the man’s explanation that she hadn’t misheard; the masked man was indeed Lucas in disguise.
This world has no easier disguise than someone disfigured by accident; no one would get close to examine their face. Even a glance would be quickly averted.
"Sir, have you seen his wounds?"
"I have, they’re terrifying. Before, when children misbehaved, parents would scare them by saying they’d send them to Archie’s house and disown them. Later, seeing him, children would cry, so he wrapped himself up thoroughly and seldom went out."
"..."
"Sigh, he’s a pitiful soul."
Sienna largely confirmed the man was indeed Lucas. With Lucas there, her heart suddenly felt at ease.
"I heard him coughing just now. Is he ill? Next time you see Archie, tell him I’m a doctor, and he can come to me for treatment."
"Madam, you’re truly kind-hearted."
"I cannot bear seeing others suffer."
Sienna was immensely grateful for her decision to open the clinic and conduct consultations; this way, she could meet many people, increasing the chances of seeing Lucas.
She watched Lucas’s distant disappearing figure, then softly smiled.
Xavier Young came looking for Sienna, displeased when he found her alone, "Where’s Sulla? Why are you alone?"
"Sulla recently got a new boyfriend; I can’t very well prevent her from meeting him. Earlier Sulla was walking with me, and I happened to run into her boyfriend, so I let her go see him."
"I can’t feel at ease with you alone. Next time you go out, let Sulla accompany you."
"What is there to not feel at ease about? Everyone here knows me; how could I possibly get lost?" Sienna proactively hooked his arm, seeing Xavier Young’s lips curve.
"Alright, whatever you say," Sienna said compliantly.
"I’m hungry; can you make wontons for me?"
"Of course."
"Lately, for some reason, nothing tastes good to me except your cooking," he replied.
Sienna replied, "What’s strange about that? Because I cook for you. Even if I gave you poison, it would surely taste delicious to you."
Gazing at her tenderly, Xavier said with a smile, "Right, even if you fed me poison, I would consider it a gourmet meal."
